Agreed. I have had some decent success with companion upgrades.

I've done a companion upgrade about 5 times in my life. 80% of the time, it was on transcons which in itself amazed me. Though, this is spread out over the last 8-9 years. :)

You, very often (esp. in EWR), get GA's telling you they won't put your companion on the upgrade list "because there's no use."

I ask them to add the person anyways and they do. Generally, at the Pclub, they don't even bat an eye and just do it.

I have seen, on a couple of occasions, the upgraded elite walking back to coach and asking the person who is sitting next to their companion if they would like to swap seats. Essentially, the elite takes it upon themselves to op-up a random pax instead of the next elite.

Due to the volatility of the EUA list (we've all seen it) most elite are savvy enough to know their companion has a fighting chance until just before the front door closes. So, they won't volunteer their seat back (which has now been reassigned anyway) to the GA prior to boarding.

If CO implemented an "all or nothing" system where, if both parties did not receive an upgrade, it wouldn't be offered to just one (if that's what the user wanted).

The fact that random pax get the opportunity to occupy F before elite companions pretty much kills the program in my opinion. Why even bother offering it?

But, really, there is nothing officially wrong with the companion dance. It is completely within the pervue of the person who got the seat to give it away. By that token, would you be upset if I used my miles to upgrade a non-elite?

I would also bet the number of times is relativley small in the grander scale.

Now, I do have a complaint against the people buying upgrades trumping the companions. That really is the diluting of an already diluted benefit.

Anyone in the box interested in doing a GIG run 5/15-5/18? CO 1E are you gonna go?

On another note, we started tlaking about Shogun 27 last week. Does anyone have any dates in mind for those in the NY/NJ area?

Almost any works for me. The Box plus sushi/hibachi is pretty hard to pass up.

I try to maintain an "every other" policy. Much safer that way with the missus.

I decided I just couldn't sit in my home office for another day, so I'm "working" at my favorite sports bar, watching baseball, drinking beers, and "working".

Of course, I can't focus on this PPT at all, so I'm FTing and FBing instead.

This is what happens on sunny days here. And it is only just beginning...

I so wish I could do that. Mmmm, maybe it's time to FB for a bit. There was article that I just read that people who web surf 20% of the time at work tend to be better employees. :)

Yeah, sometimes FB is a good diversion. I'm only connected to one FTer on there so far, but it is a great way to keep up on what people are doing (other than flying)... if that's even important :)

That's not true. We would earn a lot of miles.
