Yep. I've never been successful at a companion upgrade on CO because of it. I don't even try most of the time.

Under the details it says that 1 ticket was purchased (and gives the confirmation #), but two tickets were purchased with that confirmation # and then one was split off.

I've had the same thing happen. I just went back and looked and on several PNRs where I had two passengers, I got $10. On most I got $5.

After thinking about it I realized that it appears the $5 credits were mostly when I split the PNR for upgrade purposes. The unsplit ones where we either used miles to upgrade or were flying COEX and there was no upgrade possibility I got $10.

So, my guess is it's the split that's causing the occassional $5 Travel Club credit on a PNR with two or more passengers. Another reason not to split, and just book separately from the start.

Glad to see DL finally admitting that it's Indian call centers suck. Too bad it took them this long. DL claims offshoring those call centers saved $25 million per year. I wonder if they have any clue how much business they lost because of it?

I have been involved in offshoring for years and have found it can be a great cost savings, but not when verbal communications are required.

Anyone remember what the original mileage routing rules are if CO rebooks you on a different airline with a shorter route? Monday I was scheduled ATL-IAH-BTR but CO rebooked me nonstop on DL ATL-BTR due to weather delays that would have left me stranded at IAH Monday night.

I've used it too and my results have been varied. It's not so bad until you see how an airline like US or NWA handles it and you realize how ludicrous CO's system is.

Take for example:

CO forces you to split your PNR with your companion. I hate doing this in case of irr. ops, I want both myself and my companion to be reaccommodated together.

You, very often (esp. in EWR), get GA's telling you they won't put your companion on the upgrade list "because there's no use."

Non elites, with the new buy-up system now get the opportunity to buy upgrades before your companion can get an EUA.

There are several elites out there that will do the companion dance. If both don't get it, the one person who received the upgrade will just take it upon themselves to upgrade the person sitting next to their companion, preventing the next "elite" from getting the seat (this has happened to me twice in the past year.)

There is no "all or nothing" option.

I have very mixed feelings about it. I have NEVER dealt with an offshore call center where the level of service was anything but mediocre at best, and more often than not, it was total crap. I've had DL's Indian call center tell me that the only airport in the NYC market that DL served was JFK, I've also had them try to reroute me to AUS instead of IAH when I needed to make a change to a ticket going to Houston on DL.

As for other services, yes, it can save a lot of money. But I also am disgusted when it means US-based employees of a company are laid off to be replaced with cheaper labor doing the same job from a developing country. I have had to do some training sessions for offshore developers in the middle of the night who my company hired after laying off a significant portion of our US-based development team in the past few months. I can't say I was very pleased to get up at 3:30 AM to do a 4:15 AM training session for people who were replacing friends of mine who were laid off — and these were people who knew our products inside out and had years of knowledge — that were replaced by offshore developers who had no product knowledge and were starting from scratch. Sure, it may save us some money in the short-term, why? Who really benefits from this, besides major shareholders, some top-level executives, and the developers in that foreign country?

I realize we may "have" to do things like this because our competition is doing it and we have to compete. My gripe is that it ever got started in the first place, and that all types of American consumers seem more driven by cheap prices than true value and quality.
