Just a guest visitor to the Box (...hope that is allowed!) Love all the banter here! Such an escape from some of the all-too-serious threads out there!

Sorry, but visitors are not allowed. Now that you're here you'll have to join the cult fun. :p

A big  to quasi government agencies. How am I supposed to remember what my starting and ending salary was at every job I've had. I know my very first starting salary and what my starting and ending was at the last job but there's a 14 year gap in there I have no clue.

What is the minimum amount of time I need in AMS to be able to get out of the airport and head into town and have it be a worthwhile visit? I'm still trying to tweak my return from Europe in July and hoping I can spend a few hours in a museum or wandering the streets or something, but don't want to end up just having a longer layover in the airport than I really needed. I see 2 hour (obviously no), 4 hour (maybe??) and 6+ hour (plenty of time, right?) connections as options on the schedule.

I'll let you know after May 15. I have 2 layovers that weekend. One 7 hour and another 6 hour.

I'd aim for the 6 hour connection in AMS, as that will ensure that you have sufficient time to get out a ways from Centraal Station to see Dam Square, Vondelpark, take a Canal Cruise, etc.

Will be flying from HOU for the first time in ages this evening... on an AA ATR-72.

I'm working on it!

I want to take advantage of the super cheap GIG fares and everyone who commits to going backs out at the last moment.

I fear I may have to wait until Dec when I do LIM.

Yeah...6+ seems like a slam dunk. I'm booked with ~2 right now which means sitting in the lounge or just wandering around the airport, both of which I'm fine with. I guess the real question is if I should bother making the change if it nets me only a 4 hour layover. I figure we'd only have ~2 hours at most outside of the airport, right? It has been too long since I've been there to remember if that is ever worth bothering with.

And it all may be moot as I'm having trouble finding 2 seats on any of the later flights back to the states, but I'm still working on that.

You should try to combine GIG with a GRU-JNB-CPT run on SA, if you can spare the vacation time and find award availability on SA (or just earn to your *A account on a Y ticket). I'd really like to do SCL-AKL, GRU-JNB, EZE-CPT, JNB-PER/SYD to round out my Southern Hemisphere lines. :D

Thanks for the 'welcome! You know I'm a 'fan' of yours on the other threads! Don't want to make a fool of myself here, so will just take it slowly!

4 would be too close for comfort, IMO. Any delays or snags, and you'd end up with minimal time outside of Centraal station.
