I guess the question becomes, do I want to ensure an upgrade for at least one person or risk not getting an upgrade at all?

I want to take advantage of the super cheap GIG fares and everyone who commits to going backs out at the last moment. I fear I may have to wait until Dec when I do LIM. Groupe Air France itinerary. |

The former. Unless you have some sort of attachment issue where being 50 feet apart in the same metal tube is a problem for a few hours go for the much more likely scenario where at least someone gets to sit up front. You'll know well before the 2 hour window if there is a prayer of the companion upgrade going through and whether it is worth dealing with it at that point. But at least you've increased the chances of [her] getting the upgrade.

Groupe Air France itinerary. In other news, I realized last night I can cash out my DL miles for SW flights. According to the DL site, I can even redeem for EWR-SIN and LAX-SIN. In other news, Starwood sues Hilton. Let the battle begin! |

Edited for reality.
My wife used to actually not take my upgrades when I'd offer them. Some sort of "you earned them" mentality that I never understood. Still, I wasn't about to have the seat and alcohol cart go unused. Then, about 3 years ago we flew out to LAS. It was a 757 and she was in 7C while I was in 1 or 2. During boarding I was standing in the 2R galley talking to her. The FAs started asking what was going on and eventually goaded her into taking the F seat from me. On the plus side, they bought me drinks throughout the flight. On the minus side, I seem to sit in F less and less when there is only one upgraded seat. And it is completely worth it. |

Too true.

I am all for us having at least one person up front, so I'll continue to split the PNRs. |

The G7 Airways fleet change is underway - a 734 is up for immediate sale for anyone who can not wait for delivery of a new one.
Why? I am trying to right size my fleet for proper destination coverage and frequencies while not overspending on larger aircraft. And yes, I am experimenting a bit to see how certain aircraft do in certain situations. Yes, I have wayyyyyy too much time on my hands! |
Boy, I am glad my assignment in BUD dried up when it did. Things were a bit dicey at times then, but it seems to be getting worse:
Warden Message for American citizens in Hungary This location is a couple blocks from my office and hotel!April 17, 2009 This Saturday, 4/18/2009, Kossuth Tér, Parliament, and the area surrounding the Prime Minister’s Office will be the site of a demonstration conducted by six Hungarian Labor Unions. Police expect up to 15,000 attendees. Kossuth Tér will not be blocked, so Americans in this vicinity are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling by vehicle or public transportation. |

What is the minimum amount of time I need in AMS to be able to get out of the airport and head into town and have it be a worthwhile visit? I'm still trying to tweak my return from Europe in July and hoping I can spend a few hours in a museum or wandering the streets or something, but don't want to end up just having a longer layover in the airport than I really needed. I see 2 hour (obviously no), 4 hour (maybe??) and 6+ hour (plenty of time, right?) connections as options on the schedule.

Yeah...6+ seems like a slam dunk. I'm booked with ~2 right now which means sitting in the lounge or just wandering around the airport, both of which I'm fine with. I guess the real question is if I should bother making the change if it nets me only a 4 hour layover. I figure we'd only have ~2 hours at most outside of the airport, right? It has been too long since I've been there to remember if that is ever worth bothering with.
And it all may be moot as I'm having trouble finding 2 seats on any of the later flights back to the states, but I'm still working on that. |
