The problem came up at the airport when I noticed the mobile app said I was not checked in. The agents at the Club figured out there was an equipment swap but also saw I was now with no seat and on the oversold list. Fifteen minutes of three of them clicking and they said they think it was because of the ON fare and I likely would not get on the flight.

The good news was they offered to try to get me on a direct flight but warned me the system was making it hard to do that. A half hour later and more clicking by three of them and I managed to get on the flight in a middle seat in e+.

The comments as they worked were "status means nothing now, it all depends on what you paid" and "I wish I could put you in a y fare but the system does not let us do that anymore. They also said they are allowed to waive some fees if they call it "training".
Can you share what your confirmed 1st class seats were supported by?

I have flights upgraded with miles in two weeks wherein LAX-SFO shows (ON) and SFO-HKG shows (R). Like you, I booked these months ago. They upgraded instantly when I applied the miles.

To say I would be disappointed if there is an issue on the day of travel would be an understatement.

I was in a potential misconnect situation and I was protected in the Y fare bucket on a later flight (I ended up making the original flight). So I think they can do it, it sounds like the 3 agents working on your case didn't know how (maybe I had a PMCO agent).

Same situation here. Booked pre-March 3. Intl legs show R. Domestic legs show ON. SWU used. Travel in April.

Is there something we should be doing proactively for these?

It may have been they did not know how. They were certainly trying to help.

I booked what I thought was a w fare. Used cr1 at the time to upgrade on the spot. When I look now it says s fare on website though the ticket was $529.

I think the equipment swap messed it up. I had called last week and was told they could not change on to r without losing the upgrades.

Last week I even paid 99 for tod upgrade since I seem to not be clearing many free ones this month. Last year I cleared Orr 95% flying the same places so getting used to this treatment.

Ok, you guys worried me so I checked a couple reservations I have for August and same thing. Also supported by an SWU, all legs cleared. ..... looking at the OP, this was supposed to have been resolved? As requested in the OP, PM'd UAInsider my reservations...

I just went to checkin for my first multi-pax post-3/3 flight. Upon checkin, SHARES decided to split my companion off into her own PNR, which has caused her to have her own status on the upgrade priority list instead of my status.

The united.com CPU policy states (http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont.../upgrades.aspx):

"If the companion is a Premier member, the upgrade will be processed according to the highest Premier status level in the reservation."

Which is not the case. She's down at 35 and I'm at 16 (which in itself is depressing). Shouldn't she be 17?

Speaking as a software engineer, the CO IT team needs to start taking some pride in their software and raise their standards. This is frustrating.

This is a known "bug" -- you can still add her at the gate 3 hours before departure under your status. This actually is how CO operated (no companion until 3 hours before) and of course didn't implement the new policy properly.

Good to know. Probably not worth the hassle in this specific case as there's no way we'd clear anyway.

Smile Simple Math - Not So Easy for United

Looking at my upcoming flight info for my trip from IAD - DUR with a connection of FRA - JNB. Notice the flight times.

Depart:
10:15 p.m.
Sun., Apr. 1, 2012
Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)

Arrive:
8:45 a.m. +1 Day
Mon., Apr. 2, 2012
Johannesburg ZA (JNB)
Flight Time:
17 hr 30 mn

Return flight

Depart:
6:55 p.m.
Thu., Apr. 5, 2012
Johannesburg ZA (JNB)

Arrive:
5:35 a.m. +1 Day
Fri., Apr. 6, 2012
Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)
Flight Time:
3 hr 40 mn

I know this is nothing compared to lost segments or upgrades and all the other failures we have encountered since March 3. Just wish that that flight from JNB to FRA was truly 3 hours and 40 minutes, that would be wonderful.

Also curious if anyone is having any luck with miles posting on ON fares. Going on almost 2 weeks with pre 3/3 CR1 applied flights not posting. At least US Airways posts within 72 hours.

Oddly enough, I did have miles posted on an ON segment, except that it was an award ticket! Perhaps their system wouldn't be quite so messed up if they'd come up with a completely new set of codes, requiring a fresh look at any software that touches them, rather than shoe-horning all kinds of new stuff into their old set. With their hodgepodge of subsystems dealing with various aspects of reservations and tickets, as well as the rather confusing set of codes (including those like ON with double-meanings), there are likely coding errors all over the place that will be quite difficult to track down.

If you did this, you're probably looking at a new system in any event. This is the kind of thing that is hard to avoid in such a merger. I'm thinking you may get away with it, I'll bet they will over credit rather than under credit, and at some point it will just be too tiresome to go back and keep fixing corner cases.

Not a new system, but just some new code in a lot of places. My guess is that they've got a large number of hard-coded special cases all over the place that have been built up over time and just got a lot worse, when they really need something like a central table of codes and attributes. In my experience in such cases, it can be better to make a big change that requires recoding every case where these things are used than to have a system that mostly works, but fails in numerous subtle ways.

As a customer, the annoying thing is that a lot of errors exist in my flight credits, but I don't know when they'll be finished to the point where it's worth calling them. I've already experienced an extra 600,000 miles in credits that disappeared a couple of weeks later, and I don't even have confidence that changes won't continue to happen months down the line. I believe I'm still missing a number of credits and refunds, but it's hard to reconcile my account with their sketchy histories and continued changes happening.

I noticed a similar issue with a booking to Accra. It looks to me like some part of the system thinks that Africa is in the same time zone as Chicago.

Standard Award Availability

So I posted a separate thread last night on this, but haven't seen anyone chime in. I should have probably posed here in any case.

I was trying to book an award ticket. As the website says, "MileagePlus Premier members and MileagePlus credit cardholders have access to last-seat availability on Standard Awards."

On the flights that I was trying to book, there was plenty of Y and YN availability. The website would not however let me book these flights so I ended up calling reservations to book the flight.

Is this a system glitch?
