Maybe another lance_chutney has appeared on a list somewhere?

That was exactly what I thought. SH seems to think Canadians without Nexus can also apply. But I haven't heard or seen anything to this effect. That's why I was asking where that thought was coming from.

My guess is that it will be possible, but it isn't yet.

There's no point to it though. It's more expensive. The only advantage is that you don't have to be interviewed by Canada Customs, but when I did my NEXUS interview, the Canadian part was almost entirely about how to use NEXUS and not at all about me.

And if you had GE without Nexus, you wouldn't be able to use the Nexus machines to bypass Canadian immigration lines. (I'm assuming that GE holders can -- or will be able to -- use Nexus to enter the US. May be a bad assumption, though.)

How long has the initial processing been taking recently? I submitted my application over a week ago in GOES and it still shows "Pending Review."

I think a bad assumption as GE uses fingerprints while Nexus uses iris scans. As aside I talked to CBP yesterday in SEA and the "sticker" is not required now.

How does Nexus work for PR who use ESTA process? Is an ESTA required before application for Nexus, or would ESTA no longer be needed for visa waiver PR who are approved on Nexus? There seems to be some duplication ...

"Upgrading to GE"

Flying EWR to YYZ, I had some time to kill, so I decided to try and upgrade my Nexus to GE. Went to Terminal B - International Arrivals and then went to US Customs (just outside of arrivals door). I walked in and explained that I was a NEXUS member and would like to upgrade. Was not required to give fingerprints since they were already on file. The officer asked to see my passport and driver's licence, but no NEXUS card. Five minutes later, passport and licence returned. I was signed up. A little sticker was placed on the back page of my passport. I am now good to go. A painless experience...now waiting to see if it will work.

Officers were checking for actual NEXUS cards yesterday at YYZ arrivals so remember you must always have it and your passport with you or the account can be pulled!

I inquired about that before....PR can apply for NEXUS provided they also meet other immigration requirements of both Canada and the US (ie. valid visa/I-94 or I-94W)

Just had my prints taken at the SFO Global Entry enrollment centre, and that's the procedure that the CBP officer explained to me.

I hope it works next time I fly to the USA!

He claimed the only way to get to the point where they scan the fingerprints was to create a new application and re-enter all the data from my existing file. Once the scans are captured he moved them over to my existing file and then deleted the "new" file that he had created.

I've never seen that at arrivals. Who was asking for it? The guy at the top of the escalator or at the exit of the baggage hall?

I've never seen this either. For me, it used to be that way about 50% of the time doing pre-clearance at YYZ (along with BP stamp). In the last year or two, I haven't even been checked for the card at pre-clearance, but now have BP stamped 100% of the time.

Nexus with prior arrest

I would like to apply to the Nexus program.

The only wrinkle for me is that I have a prior arrest (from 1996). It was a drug possession arrest in Canada. There was no hearing or anything. The police decided not to proceed with a prosecution. (I was not in possession of anything but one of the other passengers in a car that was pulled over had something on him).

The problem is that I would have to answer yes to the "have you ever been arrested" question.

Should I even bother with Nexus?

Question for NEXUS members:
If there's a change in your employment situation, i.e. if you start a new job, are you supposed to report that change? If so, do you have to do it in person at an enrollment centre, or can it be done over the phone? It's not possible to update that information in GOES. Thanks.
