But maybe there really is an explanation other than either incompetence or paranoia?

I am sure there is a 10E-27 chance of there being one. Within the two options, I think incompetence wins in this case.

Based on past comments from others it seems like their info is wrong? Also the us side said oh don't really know much about it, why would you need ge anyway????

I had this "interview scheduling" issue also. A brand new GE applicant can schedule an interview on-line at GOES. A Nexus-merge-GE case that needs to lay down their fingerprints cannot book an interview on-line. Call your nearest CBP office and ask for the CBP agent that knows the most about GE-Nexus merges...you might have some luck there booking a time for fingerprinting. Some CBP stations allow walk-ins for GE approved people that just need biometric data collection (finger printing).

At around Christmas time, YYZ told me I could just come in anytime and CBP would take my prints if that's what I wanted, even though they didn't know much about me being able to use GE.

I didn't get to then, but have time on a layover at ORD coming up on Wednesday. Called the GE office there on Friday, and the person in the office was familiar with everything and what has to happen, and told me to walk in when I get there to get everything settled.

The evidence is clearly both - paranoid incompetence, that is, paranoia driving incompetence and the great fear of being the person who waves through the next on-board terrorist (I'm glad someone caught the irony). It's interesting that US federal officials are hyper-cautious to the point of checking whether your Nexus iris scan is for real, while their colleagues have to deal with clearly insane persons within their borders who are free to carry and shoot handguns everywhere - except in the little part of the US that is oddly created inside Canadian airports. Which makes Canadian airport boarding lounges the safest place in the United States.

I got the "Expand Your SENTRI Benefits" one today too.

I also love how my Nexus card number was printed above my name on the postcard. These people are in charge of security?

Actually, NEXUS users can use SENTRI benefits. The only issue is that SENTRI still requires car registration with the program in order to use the lanes.

No appointment necessary because no interview takes place. It only takes 5 minutes to do the fingerprints anyway.

Here is the issue - it actually seems that GE offices are more aware of the inclusion of all NEXUS holders than NEXUS Enrollment Centres are (though, NEXUS Enrollment Centres can now technically do interviews for GE). My girlfriend actually had a problem at YYZ with some CBP people not knowing and left frustrated. When I called Blaine (it was about 1 p.m. Pacific in L.A. and the EST Centres were closed) to ask if I could auto update my new passport, the woman seemed a bit confused and first said I had to "present it to a NEXUS Enrollment Officer" then thought I might be able to go to a GE office. I then called GOES and was assured I could do it online. I went to the LAX GE office anyway and the officer had no problem updating me.

At yyz the cbp person took all 10 fingerprints does that mean I should be good to go? This was for nexus but re GE will the data merge?

Check your account on the GOES site. You should either see a message on your status. Or if you read upthread, you'll see that at least some who have had their accounts merged see that they have GE under their memberships in addition to Nexus.

dnotes Jan 23, 2011 10:37 am

Emcampbe - this would be under the program membership section? From nexus only to nexus + ge? Is this automatic?

canadian_golf_guy Jan 25, 2011 9:56 am

As a data point with regards to NEXUS members now being able to use Global Entry, I dutifully created a GOES account to enrol my NEXUS card. However, the system said I did not have passport on file (??) so I had to go in to get it checked by a GE/NEXUS centre. I had to make an appointment to do this.

However, I just called the JFK GE centre (my next reasonable stop), and they took care of everything over the phone. Am I ever impressed! Thanks CBP/CBSA!

Do you guys mind giving me some clarification?

I have NEXUS and my fingerprints are on file. GOES tells me I can use GlobalEntry kiosks.

I'll be doing YQR-ORD-FLL in a few weeks and want to know if I really need that GlobalEntry sticker on my passport.

If I do:
- can I get one in Chicago at the GE office at O'Hare? (If so do I have to go through non-GE immigration first?)
- can I get one when I'm at YYZ next week?
- can I get one at YVR, YEG, SAN or DEN (connecting through or terminating at all those airports in mid-February)? I think I already know the answer re: SAN and DEN; they aren't GE as far as I know so the answer will be no

Help much appreciated.

Jim

I believe you just need your Nexus for that as your just going between Canada and the US. I was under the impression that GE helps Nexus holders for international<->US travel.

..No pre-clearance in YQR.

rehoult Jan 25, 2011 2:09 pm

I've have been told that you do not NEED one, but that is good to have. I would recommend using GE on landing in ORD (will also be a good test to see if your profile linked up properly) and then go get the sticker in ORD during your stopover. You can try YYZ next week, but there seems to be varying levels of success with Canadian Nexus offices depending on who's on duty.

Just a data point. Did my NEXUS interview on 1/18, and received the card on 1/25 ^ YEG office told me that it would take four-six weeks.
