Question for those that used NEXUS to enroll into the GE program.

How do you schedule a new interview. I dont see anything about scheduling an additional interview inside my GOES account except a statement

" * Global Entry Benefit: As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message."

We tried doing a "New Enrollment" but the Global Entry option is not selectable.

Any ideas? Is it just a walk-in to the NEXUS office to do the 10 finger scan?

Yes, you should be able to walk-in and see the CBP agent for that at any Nexus location.

Not at YUL...dropped by yesterday afternoon at 1500 and both the CBSA guy and the CBP officer told they didn't have the proper equipment to capture 10 fingerprints....the CBP guy, who told me was also a NEXUS member and had received the same emails and postcards, said that the Global Entry link to NEXUS had "been rolled out too quick"....he also mentioned that YUL "might" have the right equipment in a month or so...

Hi wpj. Very interesting. I am also a Canadian PR, not a citizen of either US or Canada, and I need an I-94 every time I enter the US (which I keep until the end of the 6 month validity). It is annoying but, as you know, when entering the US without a valid I-94 in my passport, I cannot use the Nexus lanes, but need to go through the regular lanes.

How does Nexus work for PR who use ESTA process? Is an ESTA required before Nexus, or would ESTA no longer be needed for visa waiver PR who are approved on Nexus?

Used the GE entry 2 times in 2 weeks. Worked perfectly without sticker.

Why wouldn't they? The 10 prints have been required by NEXUS for some time now. I got my 10 prints when I got my NEXUS card, and I did it at the tiny Niagara Falls, NY Enrollment Centre that doesn't even have an IRIS camera (or didn't then). As far as the "right equipment" all they need is that little live scan machine they already use for NEXUS printing.

It's amazing how confusing this Nexus/GOES/Global Entry thing is. CBP sends multiple postcards, GOES web site has confusing messages and no real info, and the CBP staff are mis/uninformed.

It even makes AC's 2011 elite program launch look good.

You do not need to enroll through the website, or it appears, schedule another interview. It seems US CBP uses the same security/background check process to clear people for GE as they do for Nexus (for the US side). Anyone who would be approved for Nexus on the US side would pass the check for GE (although for GE alone, without Nexus, you need to be a US Citizen/PR (or member of the Dutch program, I think) to apply)

If you are getting the above message, it sounds like you are good to go. I assume you had all your fingerprints taken when you enrolled in Nexus?

For those that didn't, like me, we got a message stating to "schedule" an appointment to get the 10 fingerprints done. I took care of that at ORD last week, but it appears there is no requirement to "schedule" - walk ins are good (at least at the GE offices, and as I was told on the phone, at YYZ Nexus office). I imagine they automatically added all Nexus profiles to the GE system for those who had all biometrics complete on the date it went into effect, and put the above message up on your GOES page. For those that needed their fingerprints scanned, we got a different message like I got.

The GE office officers now seem to know about this pretty well - I got my fingerprints done and profile added at ORD no problem (and got my GOES profile cleaned up of expired ID's....finally) - the whole process took maybe 15-20 minutes. My dad got his done at the SFO office, again, no problems. Both of us now have the message that you got above. Not sure about CBP at Nexus offices and their knowledge, since they are hard to talk to directly. Even if you show up at an office, the front line is always Canadian officers. Seems that they certainly didn't get the memo, but definitely should have.

Wow! That is completely bizarre.

I was at YUL yesterday (JAN 31) at around 1600 and the CBP guy spent about 15 minutes creating a new GE application in the system for me and then took my 10 fingerprints! He claimed the only way to get to the point where they scan the fingerprints was to create a new application and re-enter all the data from my existing file. Once the scans are captured he moved them over to my existing file and then deleted the "new" file that he had created.

But, I'm not 100% sure that I have been enrolled in GE correctly. When I log into my GOES account I don't see anything new under "program memberships." I still only have a listing for NEXUS.

Feel free to PM me if you want more information or the CBP agent's name. He was the younger guy - mid 20's with dark hair.

[EDIT TO ADD] Looks like it was done correctly. When I log into my wife's account she still has the message saying she can join GE "once you provide your 10-fingerprints to CBP." On my account that message no longer appears.

SPoke with the YOW enrollment center today- they do not have the equipment to enrol me for Global Entry- specifically the passport reader needed to set me up in GE...said it will likley be a month or 2...said the program was rolled out before they were told anything.

Will be in SFO next week- may try there...

I got my info updated for GE system about 2 weeks ago at YEG Nexus office.

Couple of points:
- Nexus and GE are still two separate computer systems. Some of the information did not convert over too well and this needs to get cleaned up by a US CBP officer.
- This info is in relation to passport number and biometrics link up plus removal of expired documents.
- GE Nexus document linking and information update can be done at any Nexus office, but needs to be done by US CBP.
- I had spoken to the US CBP officer the week before while passing through YEG, the week before US CBP had just gotten the GE memo that day.
- By the time my appointment occurred one week later, the US CBP officers knew exactly what need to be accomplished for me and Mrs YEG Guy.
- Canadian Nexus officers have no information about the GE program other than ancedotal information from their US CBP counterparts.

The interview was originally for Miss YEG Guy to get Nexus interview accomplished. YYC (home port) had 2.5 month wait for interview so I took the family to YEG for faster service. Pointers for infant Nexus card.
- Its free for people under 18 years old.
- No iris scan for infants. You get a sticker that will get applied to back of the Nexus card advising of no iris.
- Infants still get their picture taken. If you have the means, bring along a bumbo chair for the kid to sit in. Also good idea to have a Bumbo chair for the passport photo. If you don't know what a Bumbo chair is, ask your wife.
- At the nexus and passport interviews, both parents should be present with their passport and cards available (speeds up the process).
- Have a bit of fun answering the Nexus questions regarding Criminal record, past customs violations, etc. The Nexus officers always like seeing the little one, its a good break from the monotony of adult interviews.
- Infant Cdn passport is only 22 dollars, valid for three years with a free replacement before the 3 years expiry.

All good advice. My daughter's NEXUS card has a picture of her sleeping in her stroller at 32 days old...

Thanks. If I see that I have time to drop by the YUL office again, I will PM you for the information.

This is turning into quite the adventure and PITA...I initially thought I would drop by the CBP GE office at JFK T4 when I passed through there on 28DEC 2010...of course, the über-storm killed that idea !

I did drop by the JFK CBP office just to see what they would say. What the guy said was: "Haven't been home in 2 days and, no, I won't be taking your fingerprints or scanning your passport today for Global Entry !" :D :D

Maybe I'll get lucky with the YYZ office if I get there when they are open...the YUL office has great weekend hours though.....0800-1645 !!! @:-)

Its TSA-esque really. Though, I think part of it is just power trips from the CBP.

It seems the GE offices are more aware, which is the strange thing.

Of course they have the equipment. How else could they enroll people in NEXUS, which has required the prints for some time now? The only people affected appear to be some of the oldest legacy NEXUS people. My girlfriend, who enrolled in 2007, didn't have to get reprinted.
