I'm pretty sure this happened to my wife. I read earlier where someone said their name matched someone and flagged them to secondary. Well - I went through with my wife (her first time using her nexus) and she was flagged - it was not RR, so I thought she may be okay originally. We went in and we had a very helpful agent. She explained that the computers will do matches on many different attributes. If it finds a match to something, it will flag it and it's off to secondary. She said, in my wife's case it was her birthdate. Believe it or not, that matched someone they are looking for. (All she said.) She said every time she uses Nexus she will get this and to not use the machine next time and go to the crew line and explain the situation. It will be faster and save her the time. Helpful.

It appears their list to check against does not cross match with the Nexus data very well. I'm curious how they eliminate people from being suspects.

As I have stated before the "sticker" is not needed, at least on the west coast. Confirmed by SEA CBP twice now.

Perhaps not technically required, but I understand that at some airports, e.g. ORD, you might get harassed if you don't have the sticker.

I'll be on a non-precleared YQR-ORD flight in May, so I can report firsthand then.

One data-point about ORD.

Last time I went through there, I was not asked for proof of my CBP sticker. Handing the exit officer my sticker, and was on my way. SFO is the only place that I had to show my sticker after using the kiosk. I think the officer nearest the kiosk thought that I was not a GE member..

I may well not be asked. And I understand that not everyone is asked.

Still, I got CBP stickers in each of our passports at YVR on Saturday without any issue. All I had to do was wait a few minutes for a US CBP agent to be available. When he came to talk to us he'd already applied the stickers.

They shouldn't be necessary, but they might be helpful.

One place where they likely will help is at airports like DEN where there is no GE. Show the CBP sticker, get taken to the front of the line. Without a sticker, you'll appear just like everyone else.

Glad you were able to get the stickers. Seems like some agents don't want to give NEXUS holders the sticker

Have we confirmed that the sticker will take you to the front of the line in airports without GE?

Can you explain in a bit more detail what you mean by this? Thx!

I've been told (through this thread) that US airports that don't have Global Entry will allow GE holders to the front of the Customs line.

Truthfully, I've not cleared US Customs at a non-GE US airport since I got NEXUS (I was in Denver last Saturday but we precleared at YVR; last year we flew directly from YQR so cleared US Customs at DEN).

Scroll back a few pages in this thread and the relevant entries should be there. I specifically asked about it and was told that it's available.

Most of the transcon flights are going to be flying into GE airports, mind. DEN is an odd case because it has heavy volume (60M passengers) but very few international flights. Most of the international flights are really transborder flights, a good number of which are from non-precleared Canadian airports.

As far as I can tell, this is not a published benefit. I looked around the GE site, as well as through the brochure, and I didn't see this anywhere.

However, perhaps this is an unpublished benefit, or one which certain officers abide by. I've never tried using it, so unfortunately can't provide first hand evidence.

Not that anything is wrong with that. :)

Members,

I need some guidance. I am Canadian PR and living in canada since Feb 2008. I am citizen of Pakistan and currently hold B1/B2 USA visa. I often travel to USA for work trips and pleasure. From Nexus requirements, i can see i am eligible to apply but not sure how it will work as i need I-94 along with visa.

Did someone in my situation successfully got Nexus?

Thanks,

regards,

Ali

Ali, as you're probably enrolled in the NSEERS as a Pakistani born national unfortunately they will most probably deny your NEXUS application even if you met the criteria.

Unfortunately even after you're sworn in as a Canadian national and obtain your Canadian passport, they will most probably deny your application, unless there is a shift in the policies.

My advice, don't waste your $50 now. Wait till you're a Canadian citizen, then try and see what happens, but be prepared for denial.

Sorry, I wish I had better news.

Payam81,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I agree with your assessment. I have been traveling to USA since 2001 and recently they waived my security checks when i reapplied for B1/B2 visa. The last time i traveled to USA, CBP office put a stamp on my passport and wrote "NEX" on it and said i do not need to go through the exit procedure and notify anybody when leaving USA. He asked me to apply for redress as well

I will wait until i become a Canadian citizen. I was just checking if someone has gone through similar experience

Regards,

Ali

You're welcome and yes, In the past 10 months CBP has started removing parts of Bush era NSEERS, courtesy of President Obama, namely the exit control but they're not ready just about yet to hand out NEXUS to prior NSEERS registrants (or those who would qualify for it) however, I've heard from a CBP supervisor friend that they're fully aware of it and the powers to be will address it at some point.

As far as redress, it won't apply to your situation as they've already waived the exit control for you so I wouldn't bother with it.

Yes.

I am a NEXUS card holder. I received a postcard from CBP a few weeks ago inviting me to visit my on-line GOES profile in order to take advantage of Global Entry. When I did so, the website essentially said you are now eligible with no further action necessary.

I tried it out about 10 days ago in MIA when on my way from BZE home to YOW. Used the GE kiosk with no problems. Despite all the discussion about needing a sticker (just in case), this was never mentioned in any of my interactions with CBP (postcard, website, immigration hall exit).

Good move CBP to add Canucks to Global Entry via NEXUS! ^

When I left YOW at the beginning of February, I checked in with NEXUS office and CBP officer there told me they had no information re GE.

But I used GE in LAX last week and it worked like a charm. Thank God too or I would have missed my connection.
