Did my GE interview at IAD last week. It was quick and painless. The biggest thing is that I got a little sticker on the back cover of my passport. Somehow this identifies me to customs agents as a trusted traveller.

Question for the group - do dried herbs count as "plants" when trying to bring things back in? (Not a lot; a few hundred grams perhaps.) I'm asking from the perspectives of both US entry and Canadian entry. Should I tick off "yes" to the plant questions if I have some in the carry on? (I'm assuming I should.)

What GE stickers? When I had my interview, I was told that by being accepted in Nexus, I was also automatically accepted in GE and that I was free to use their kiosk. No stickers in my passport and I wasn't told to go to any GE office in the US either  |

Looks like this.
Or can I just walk in a GE office and ask for a sticker just by showing my nexus card? |
Went through SFO last week comming from YYJ with no GE stickers. Asked and two agents came with me to see if it would work, as they wanted to know as well. No issues just a swipe of the passport and fingerprint verification. Easy Peasy past the line. Gotta love it.

Ack! Could you please point to me the link where I have to take an appointment to get this sticker. I can't apply for GE for lack of being an US citizen, so can't set up an interview or anything. My GOES account says I'm eligible to use the GE kiosks already.

I'd be persistent and insist on the sticker. If nothing else, you can say that "ORD required the sticker last time I tried it; can you please make sure I have it?"

Been reading the forums for some time now and thought I would post my experience in applying for a Nexus card.
March 15 - Applied through GOES March 26 - Conditionally approved, was able to schedule an appointment on March 28 March 28 - Interview at YHZ April 4 - Received card in the mail. In all, pretty quick and easy process. I was a bit surprised that I was able to secure an interview so soon after approval. |
I had a secondary inspection on my way through to Vegas on Friday. Though slightly concerned, I shouldn't have been. It took them a couple minutes to go through the bags don't know what they were looking for but I never have anything I shouldn't anyway.
I still beat my non-Nexus friend into the MLL by 40 minutes who was travelling on the same flight :) |

Immigroup
I made the mistake of using Immigroup Immigration Services to get my Nexus Pass. They supposedly prescreened me and then set up my interview with DHS in Vancouver. However, this is a warning for most people seeking a Nexus Pass....DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON IMMIGROUP. I paid $250 only to be rejected by DHS. The reason: Apparently, I had been visiting my girlfriend too often in the US already....so I became a "red flag" and was rejected. On two occasions (between January 16th and March 16th) I visited my girlfriend on a Thursday night, and drove back to Canada early on the following Monday, but DHS viewed this as visiting for 5 days on 2 occasions....and I was penalized.
Of course, I visited her often only because she had to renew her passport and this took a few weeks...so I visited her until her passport was received. Now we split the time equally north and south of the border so it's not as much of an issue...unless you work for DHS of course :( My whining isn't with DHS though...I just feel somewhat miffed because I feel as though I got suckered by Immigroup to pay $250 for something that only costs $50....so keep your money....avoid Immigroup. |

I'm curious: how do you know that your "frequent" visits were what caused the red flag? Did the US people say this to you explicitly? Or could there have been other factors? I'm asking because I also go to the US "frequently" to visit my girlfriend. I've not had any issues so far, probably because I use Nexus most of the time, except that a couple of months ago an agent grilled me about why I make so many trips. The problem is that I cannot use Nexus every time, due to needing an I-94 card, and so on the few occasions that I need to see an agent, they ask a lot of questions. I'm trying to figure out how often is too often to go to the States. Once a month? Once in 2 months? |
The Sticker
As I have said before, the sticker is not required to use GE. I have cleared at ATL, SEA, MIA, and SFO with no issues. Actually at ATL, the young officer wanted my I-94, as how else could I have GE.
