My point was that you were taking a single incident at a border crossing and saying that you would never take your shiny coins across the border again

As much as some might appreciate the definition, you've clearly missed the point once again:rolleyes:
I did not say I would NEVER take my money south, I said I wouldn't use the 'friendly' Ambassador Bridge and the equally 'friendly' gov't lackees who are tasked with controlling it.
Furthermore, I have no issue with being 'randomly' selected but given that I too am in the Security industry I know there is nothing random about it and the idiots I had to deal with were simply puzzled by the fact that I would drive from Toronto to visit their 'lovely' city for a few short hours as i clearly look like a drug dealer or other non-desirable person:confused:

In retrospect i too am now puzzled as to why i would waste my time and effort to visit one of America's 'finest' cities, but i guess thats what learning curves are all about.

And when i see hundreds of people wandering aimlessly trying to figure out which queue (line) to join and how to get through a basic procedure such as clearing customs, it convinces me that they are very much sheep and it rattles my belief that the US is one of the supposed most advanced nations in the world.

Whether it was just our bad luck or the CBP agents there are just .........s (probably the latter), we were pulled aside for a secondary inspection (first time EVER!) and I assume this was because we told the ......... in the booth that we were only planning on staying a few hours to do some shopping and perhaps visit the casino...he thought it was strange for us to drive 'all that way' for this...moron!

To return this thread back to the original discussion. I have had a similar experience at the Ambassador bridge in the Nexus lane. I was asked what I was bringing into the US. I answered my personal effects. The agent then sarcastically asked "what like guns and drugs?". Not really sure what his problem was. It certainly didn't feel like I was a truster traveller.

Exactly! ^

Office supply stores sell clear self-adhesive pockets (meant to hold larger labels, such as on filing cabinets) that are just the right size (incl. sleeve). I stuck one on the back page of my passport with the opening towards the binding. That way, the card can never fall out when my passport is closed.

I was given this travel portfolio during the FT Secret Santa in 2010. My passport card, passport, and NEXUS card lives in there. I've got the tin pocket in the case, but never use it for the card.

For those who don't use the copper envelope, do you have other shielding for the RFID ?

I tried to get a GE sticker at YUL last week, they do not have them, but the US agent
checked my Nexus card and passport, confirmed that my fingerprints were on file,
and scanned my passport. She said that scan was necessary, and had not been done
previously. She said I am good to go for GE.
I will see in a few weeks time when I arrive at JFK from Europe..., but I will see if
I can get one at YYZ before my departure.

I finally decided to update my passport # for NEXUS and signed into GOES and I got the following messages..
"A travel document listed under your Trusted Traveler Program account has expired. Your membership requires that you keep your document information up to date. You will need to present an updated travel document at an enrollment center "

So I was afraid I'd have to drive all the way to YHZ (40 mins)... however I seen a link to "update information" and I was able to input my new number. I wonder if they still want me to present an updated travel document?
My fear is trying to use the machines and getting delayed next week when I travel to catch a cruise.

You can update certain information through GOES, but for a new passport you must update it at a Nexus office so that they can verify your documents.

I was able to do my new license number over the phone but the passport did need to be seen and ID page photocopied. You'd think they would automatically get this from the passport office but even the passport office doesn't want to record your NEXUS number in their files. I suspect you can make the passport number change online through GOES but the next time you use a kiosk you'll get coded for a secondary, and your boarding pass may get a SSSS!

Question for all

I have a road crossing tomorrow into the US for a trade show. Usually, I would use the regular lane if I had all my trade show stuff with me, but someone else is bringing it down, so I will have no commercial merchandise with me.

Will I run into any issues crossing with Nexus with that explanation ?

I didn't have any trouble per se but I got a lot of questions.

Hmm, I updated mine online without issue, though I stopped into the office and they took a copy on my next trip through.

My previous one had not yet expired though.

You shouldn't have an issue, as you aren't carrying commercial goods. That said, the US rarely lets you go without asking basically the same questions as in the regular line. Indeed, I've had trunk checks at the Whirlpool Bridge, of all places, more than anywhere. Canadians act completely differently, not bothering you at all. And I'm a US Citizen.

I guess I misworded my last post a bit. I meant to say that you cannot update it solely online; you must still visit an office after you put in your new information.
