Go to NEXUS at YYZ, no appointment needed, at 9 a.m. or later. Put your name on the clipboard, put Global Entry as the reason and they'll enroll you and take your prints.

That's funny, as when I went to YYZ just to get a CBP sticker the US guy thought I was enrollling and went through to the point of taking my fingerprints and when the system said I was already in GE, then he gave me the sticker.
Fort Erie does the fingerprints as well as I enrolled in NEXUS and GE there and they did it for me all at the same time (with Iris scan). |

Used GE in EWR last week inbound from HKG and how happy were the wife and I when we entered the Customs hall to see an insane amount of people waiting and we whisked through the GE in less than 2 minutes :D
First time using GE and was well impressed with the ease of the system even with the fingerprint scan...funny thing was we waited longer to see which carousel our bags were on than the time it took to clear Customs...brilliant! Unfortunately when we did get the bags it was like herding cats trying to get through just to drop off the GE tickets as there were no airport personnel anywhere to be seen trying to organize the chaos. I will say however that the CBP officer was quite friendly and asked how we liked the system, etc which was a nice change from the usual grunt and silly questions! Cleared NEXUS in YYZ later the same day with the usual ease and would happily pay twice as much for the same priveleges this provides!! ^^ |
YYC is setup for fingerprints as well if you go through there. We got our nexi early last year and were fingerprinted.

Ill have to try again. Was told I needed an appointment the last time I was there.
Arrive before 9 a.m. when the US agents start. Put your name on the clip board and put down fingerprints. I just put GE and they almost re-enrolled me until I told them it was just the sticker. They call people up in order from the clipboard. I think they start appointments for people who are going from scratch at 10 a.m. At 8 a.m. there were no people getting full NEXUS appointments there at all, so the Canada side updated my passport data in no more than 10 minutes from arrival. They told me US starts at 9 and to put my name on the clipboard. And come back. So try that. Arrive at 8, get near the top of the clipboard and go for coffee. The Tims don't even charge "airport" prices. |

Thanks for the rest of your note. I had asked this question a few pages back, and had no response. Now I have one I feel confident on, I will do this if I do not have a chance to stop at Ft. Erie when I am through on the weekend. -Brian |

My experience with the Nexus interview.
I'd like to share with you all our experience with the interview.
We applied back in mid Jun and did not get a response until late August (that was like 9 weeks!) I guess they were really backlogged! Since the schedule at YYZ was beyond of end of Nov (when I leave for my trip on beginning of Nov), I booked to have the interview for everyone of my family at Fort Erie since I can do the iris scan there. Our interview was booked for at 10am and 10:30am (for four people). We were about 10 minutes late getting in. We waited until 11:20am to be interviewed by the US side. The agent there was not too happy about my husband's photo on his passport (coz it looked very artificial... like he had botox done or something) but she still let us pass. We were back to waiting for the Canadian side for another 45 min or so. The officier called my husband first and again, he had a problem with his passport photo. So he sent us through the custom and asked us to get them to check on the photo. It is true that my husband has not really used this new passport before, so we never really had the experience of the custom people having problem with it. So we went through the border, and the officer looked at us, frowning for 10 seconds, and said the following: "I believe the people inside will say the same thing that I'm saying to you right now. They'll say you look exactly like the photo, rolled their eyes, send you back to NEXUS, and have the laugh of the day". We walked into the custom building and the officer there called up NEXUS and confirmed with them that the photo looked exactly like my husband and taught them how to check and see if it's the same person from the photo by turning the photo upside down, and check on the features. So we wasted about 20 minutes there at the border. We walked out of the NEXUS office close at 1pm. In the end, we spent almost 3 hours there. Back onto the passport photo. It was taken at a local Costco and hubby was saying that he would NEVER EVER take passport photo there. Their lighting was simply not quite right causing the photo to look funny. |
I never received a sticker but used GE without issues when going through IAH from SAL on the way back to YYZ...

You don't need a sticker unless something goes wrong, or get the random CBP guy in the crew lane who has people flash it at him (this happened at SFO once for some reason).

YYZ T1 this morning - the first time I ever saw a HUGE line for the Nexus machines...must have been at least 30-40 people in line, and it took a good 15 minutes to get to an open machine.
A CBP inspector was helping people with the lone GE kiosk - but it appears you need finger prints to use it. If Nexus is now automatically GE, but only our eyes were scanned for Nexus, how can we use the GE kiosk? Anyway, NEXUS has done the GE printing for a while now. At least since before I enrolled nearly 2 years ago. Its all done using a mini-live scan that looks much like the one on the GE machine itself. The "old timers" can go and get updated pretty easily at any NEXUS or GE center. You don't even need to go to a NEXUS specific one, as it all goes into the same system.

Sorry if this has been answered but I tried searching for it.
I have been conditionally approved for Nexus and logged on to find the first interview at YEG is 28th Dec. but how soon after that I would get the Nexus card itself? The reason I ask is I have a trip soon after, 6th Jan., and would like to use it then. I could also select another centre for my interview, like YYC, but it just ain't that convenient to go down & back without taking off at least a whole work day. The soonest they have an opening is 12th Nov. so much sooner. Any input on how quickly the card arrives? |
