Sept. 6 I applied and only received my conditional approval last night.
Seattle (near downtown) has openings on Nov 22, Blaine on Nov 22, YVR on Dec 5, and Vancouver downtown on Dec 8, so the backlogs are not as great as they seem to be in Ontario. Does anyone have experience getting an iris scan after the initial interview? In other words, is it worth making a special trip to Vancouver now, or should I just get the iris scan next time I am in Vancouver? Would I need an appointment just for an iris scan? |
You can get an iris scan after the initial interview. However, only the YVR location does it and not the downtown location.
As I understand it, you don't need a special appointment to do the iris scan.

At YYZ T1 the Canadian agents seemed bad, but the US guys were great. One US guy was a real hoot and had fun with everyone.
(By bad I mean imagine a AC/government union attitude...just puttin' in time until the gold plated pension comes through. Customers mean less time for chatting). |

At Blaine the CBP officer almost denied me, while the CBSA officer pretty much just said hello and waved me over to the American side.

I'm a Canadian working in the US under TN status, with Nexus and Global Entry. Entered the US today with Global Entry for the first time under TN, and the kiosk spit out my customs declaration and another I94 for my TN status...
I now have 2 I94s... my original one is valid for longer than the one the kiosk issued me... what do I do with the kiosk I94? Just pack it away somewhere, or give that one up when I go back to Canada and keep my original? I can't give up my original since it is tied to my Nexus! |

Just curious as to why you thought he almost denied you, if you don't mind sharing. Did he think you had an attitude and therefore deserved to wait on lines for the rest of your life, or was he just being stern with you?

I-94 issue is moot If you're travel is anywhere beyond Canada, I guess, so when we go to MEX later this year, I'm guessing they take her current I94 out, and she uses the new one the machine spits out going forward. For now, I'm thinking leaving Canada, she should just stick to the Nexus machines. |
Need some help regarding getting an appointment at YYZ.
In short, I fly to YYZ once or twice a month from NYC. I applied for Nexus about 6 weeks ago and it finally gave me the Conditional Approval. However, when I click the make appointment button, it tells me there are no appointments available (at all!) in YYZ. It suggests Ft Erie - and reasonably I'm not going to rent a car to drive over an hour just for the Nexus interview. I'll be flying into YYZ tomorrow afternoon (landing around 6:30pm) and again in a couple of weeks. That might be it for the year. Since there are no centers in the NYC area, what do I do? I tried calling the office at Pearson but just got voicemail (didn't even leave a msg as I can't imagine they'd return the call but tell me if I'm being too pessimistic. Also - if I just hopped the LINK train to T1 on arrival tomorrow, what are the odds they'd take me as a walk-in around that time? Boy - I had no idea the enrollment would be so tough or I'd have just done the Global Entry instead! TIA! -- Edit: I did get through and here is what they told me (although I still would love real-life experience). 1) You have 30 days to schedule the appointment even though you have to wait until they open the next batch (for February) sometime next week OR click reload all day long until there's a cancellation. Since I can't plan when I'll be traveling to YYZ 3 months in advance, I'd be guessing at what might work and would likely have to cancel. 2) I may be able to change the appointment, but more likely I'd have to call YYZ and leave a message to be called back to cancel. 3) I have to have the appointment within 90 days. 4) If I'm not willing to drive hours and hours to the alternate enrollment center and YYZ doesn't open up any slots I can use, I'll lose the enrollment and I am *not* able to get a refund. Glad they make it so easy! ;-) |
Last 3 times I've used Nexus at T1 YYZ I've gotten the V-RR (random secondary). At this point I might as well just line up with the others...

Thanks. The letter implies that an appointment is not necessary, but it is not explicit. I will double check with the officers at my appointment.

Glad they make it so easy! ;-) It's somewhere back in this thread, but my fiancee got her conditional approval within a week of our weekend trip to Canada in May, and we've only been back once since together. First appointment was showing Aug. initially (IIRC), but checked back frequently and was finding some random times before then during different weeks.. Finally, on the Thursday night around midnight, the day before we left, we found a 9am or so on the Sat. Took it, she was in and out in 15 minutes. |
