After the initial NEXUS interview, does the GOES website change to reflect the current status?
I had my interview on Aug 5 but on the GOES website, the status is still "Interview Scheduled". I have not heard anything since my interview at YYZ (and still no card in the mail). I guess I will be waiting in the customs line tonight :( Did they say everything was OK at the interview? I'd call the YYZ centre.... |

At YYC the status changes instantly.... Both the wife and I got emails from GOES just after leaving the interviews.

I was told at the end of the interview that I've most likely been approved but they couldn't tell me for sure because the system was buggy (or down) at the time. I've been checking the GOES site every day hoping for an update (and also checking my mailbox. I'm in downtown toronto so it shouldn't take that long). |
I suggest calling as well. I'm in Toronto and both my wife and I received our cards in exactly 1 week. Our status was updated within 30 minutes or so after the appointment.

Credit Card Fraud
When I cross the NEXUS land crosing between BC and WA state I use the online TDC. I fill out the necessary details and provide my credit card number on the form.
When it comes to the use of my credit card I am very careful in the cards I use. For example, MasterCard-1 I use for online purchases (Chapters, Amazon etc), select vendors that I give my number over the phone, and gas stations where they have to inside to swipe (some older "We Serve" Husky stations when I travel in BC). My MasterCard-2 I ** only ** use for the NEXUS form My Avion I use for all other purchases where I am present. The only time I'll use Avion online is for airline purchases. Two weeks ago I was traveling outside of Canada and my wife forwarded a message I received from MasterCard-2 provider. They advised that there was suspected fraud on my card. A liqour store in Delta ($149), Groceries in New West for some $240 and a couple of other purchases including Canadian Tire. I confirmed that I was outside of Canada and I did not use my card there. The card provider cancelled my card and issued a new card. It looks like there was fraud for 3 days on the card. The card that had the fraud was MasterCard-2 -- the ** only ** time I use MasterCard-2 is when filling out TDC. Just thought I share with you my experience. Cheers |

Out of curiosity, do you keep the card on you, or do you leave it at home somewhere? If you carry it with you and it's a PayPass card, it's possible someone could have duplicated it that way. Besides that, I can only assume it's either a shady CBSA agent who duplicated info, or maybe they take security lightly and keep transaction data on a laptop unencrypted and it got stolen. Personally, I'd feel much better having my credit card on file that I enter myself online, and have the some kind of account number on the TDC that they pull up the record. Does it make my information any more secure? Maybe not by much, but better than nothing.

Although that is a long shot given how close the purchases were to the Border Crossing. Have you informed CBSA that you believe their drop-boxes to be insecure? |

Updating drivers license info (the easy way)
OK, so it appears that updating drivers license info is a mixed experience for NEXUS members. I finally decided to do it so I don't get flagged with expired docs, and tried to call my enrollment center (Whirlpool Bridge) to see if I could fax the info, as others have done. They told me they can't do it by phone or fax, and that if GOES wouldn't accept the update, I'd have to cancel my NEXUS membership and reapply
Anyway, long story short...I called the appropriate NEXUS center from the Canadian NEXUS webpage: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/menu-eng.html They were able to update the drivers license expiration date, no fuss, no muss, no fax...right over the phone. Note that the GOES website doesn't show the updated expiration date right away, but after a week or so, the update found its way into GOES for both Mrs. HH and myself. |

Why - there is no credit card information on the form - it is coded and registered. And you simply don't need to use the cards any longer anyway.
Is that form not what one leaves in the box at the border? |

And yes you can verbally declare now, but that's not the point. A poster used a TDC in a "secure" drop-box and now believes his card has been used fraudulently. |

Are we talking about the same thing? The Traveler Declaration Card which can be found here http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage...tions-eng.html is simply a form you fill out which has all of your information clearly available in human-readable form for anyone to see.

Are you sure about GE interviews only being able to occur at a US airport? Presumably, yes, most getting GE only would be better served at a US airport, but theoretically, at least, I can't see why the US CBP staff at a Nexus office couldn't process a GE interview.
My guess: not less bureaucratic steps per se by the US, just bureaucratic steps from one country instead of two. Yes, GE is more expensive, so another great reason to do both. But perhaps there are some with Canadian customs violations that would likely lead to a Nexus denial, while a check from just the US for Global Entry might get them accepted to that program. If one is eligible for GE and located near the southern U.S. border, one could apply for SENTRI, which will involve the same background check and interview as Global Entry and the U.S. portion of NEXUS, and will also require a vehicle inspection if one wants the SENTRI decal for one's vehicle to be eligible for use of the dedicated SENTRI vehicle lanes into the U.S. from Mexico. SENTRI interview would be conducted at a land border crossing at the southern U.S. border. Others have already commented about the advantages of 'vanilla' GE vs. NEXUS enrollment. |
What happens once the Nexus Card is Mailed out
Hi All!
I got approved for Nexus after my interview last weekend. I also got approval letter on my online Goes account. Now I am wondering if there is any message on the GOES account once the Nexus card is mailed out. During the interview I was told that Nexus card will arrive at my home address within 10 business days. Thanks! |
Quick status update for anyone interested. Looks like the approvals are coming much faster.
Applied: July 18 Conditional: August 22 First YYC opening is at the end of January. |
