I got approved for Nexus after my interview last weekend. I also got approval letter on my online Goes account.
Now I am wondering if there is any message on the GOES account once the Nexus card is mailed out. During the interview I was told that Nexus card will arrive at my home address within 10 business days.
Thanks!

No change on GOES... But the card is mailed from Vermont almost immediately after approval.

Don't forget to activate your card on GOES when you get it.

Quick status update for anyone interested. Looks like the approvals are coming much faster.

Applied: July 18
Conditional: August 22

First YYC opening is at the end of January.

Keep checking back every couple of hours.... Last week I got my wife an appointment at YYC 2 days ahead when her initial appointment was start of Jan.

People re-schedule all the time, but as the system always offers up the first available slot, they disappear quick!

Thanks for your input!

Similar experience. Applied July 19, approved August 23. Next YYZ appointment is December 20th.

The instructions with the renewed card include destroying your old one after you validate the new one on the GOES site. But the NFBC warns that they don't always transfer the toll balance immediately. So hang onto your old card in case the funds haven't been transferred when you try to enter the Whirlpool Bridge from the US side. BTW, my new card came in a few days but Canada Post delivered it to a completely wrong address though it was perfectly correct on the envelope. The receipient realized that it was important - looked up my phone number and I picked it up. It's sent by regular mail, unlike a passport.

Went through YVR Pre-Clearance today, and used the NEXUS kiosk... looks like they're now asking quite a few more questions, including one about food. Don't know if the wording on the kiosk food question was the exact same as the declaration.

You still have to fill out the customs declaration though, even with the new questions on the kiosk. :(

Had interview at YYZ on Monday. Received card in mail (US address) Thursday.

Out of curiosity, do you keep the card on you, or do you leave it at home somewhere? If you carry it with you and it's a PayPass card, it's possible someone could have duplicated it that way.

This MasterCard stays at home as I only use it for TDC. I fill out the form and drop it in the box or give it to the border official. If they ever asked to see the card I would just give them another MasterCard that does travel with me.

Personally, I'd feel much better having my credit card on file that I enter myself online, and have the some kind of account number on the TDC that they pull up the record. Does it make my information any more secure? Maybe not by much, but better than nothing.
I agree. The old TDC books had the credit card number attached to it in behind the scenes.

Not possible to pick it off my laptop top as I ** only ** use this MasterCard for TDC. My online purchases is with another Mastercard. My purchases face-to-face at merchants or airline tickets is with Avion. Having said that I have Norton running all the time in the background and automatically receive updates from Symantec.

Cheers

If you're moving abroad (non-Canada, non-US) for >12 months (and may becoming a non-resident of Canada), do I have to surrender my NEXUS?

If you are a Canadian or US citizen, then no. The residency rules changed June 30, 2012 so that Canadian/US citizen no longer need to meet a residency requirement.

Do you fill out the credit card details on PDF form on your laptop before you print it? Have you connected to a network/internet since? If so, yes it is possible..... you do not have to shop online to have a card number stolen.

However, given everything you have said, it is highly unlikely.... But still possible.

Question still stands - Have you contacted your nexus centre regarding your concern with the security of their drop box? What is their reply?

Thanks for this. I have just forwarded this to a number of friends who live overseas.

I print out a blank form and then fill it out. I refuse to enter my credit card number on any pre-filled form, albeit I am comfortable with Government of Canada website, it is just something I don't have to enter.

The reason I print out blank forms is I keep them in my vehicles that way if I do head to the states I don't have to remember to bring a form. Plus, this way, either my wife or I can use the forms.

Have not as of yet. Just got back from SYD last night and heading to DPS for holidays on Saturday. I plan to put a letter together and send it when I get back.

Cheers

No appointments at all at YYZ

I just got my conditional approval today (applied July 31st)

I attempted to schedule my interview at YYZ but it comes up with a message indicating there are no available appointments at that location. My other options are Niagara Falls and Ft. Erie. I booked Ft. Erie for Oct 11th and will keep checking back for availability at YYZ and/or and earlier date somewhere else but has anyone else had this happen where there are NO appointments?

Wow, literally checked back two minutes later and got an appointment at YYZ for September 3rd! Definitely pays to keep checking for cancellations!!
