Thanks for your help. So what would happen if I need to get an I94? My actual I94 expires soon, so that means I have to get a new stamp on the new one.

I am not sure about NEXUS, but GE seems to print an I-94. I found the following earlier post:

Hey YZF_Flyer,

I asked the same question earlier in this thread - I have my original I94 that is tied to my NEXUS account. The Global Entry kiosk spits out a new I94 each week, with a different (sooner) expiry date than my original I94.

I have kept my original I94 stapled to my passport, and turn in my other I94 to the airline every time I leave the USA.

It is best to ask this question during your interview or by calling an enrollment centre.

Yes - GE machines will print a new i94.

My wife was told when enrolling by the US customs guys in the Nexus office to continue to use the Multople entry I94 in her passport, and toss the ones the machines give. She has a pile of them at home.

In my experience at Fort Erie and Whirlpool they have had the same discretion as at the regular posts - if they even bother to ask. If you use a TDC, you will be charged HST and duties, sometimes even if you meet the exemptions. The last time I used the TDC I was asked by the agent as to exactly what I had written on the card I had placed in the mailbox- really. The most common questions are about alcohol or tobacco importation.

The website says you can call the interview center to arrange a family interview. In my case, my daughter had a 12:30 and when I called to ask if the whole familly could be done at that time the agent seemed a bit put out by the request. After putting me on hold for a bit she was very helpful, said if we all came in at 9am we could be processed together and checked all of our approvals to make sure we were good to go. Interview is tomorrow.

ok i'll try that, another question, im a little confused about the whirlpool bridge, is it for renewals only? I see an option to have interviews there but not sure if its just for renewals. I have read through the threads and it appears that you can only use whirlpool if your a nexus holder and have the pre payed tolls.

DO you have to cross the whirlpool bridge to get to the enrollment center and do they or dont they do iris scans at whirlpool?

In this case, I would be happy to use the TDC and pay the $25 of tax (likely just HST) on $200 of purchases to avoid waiting that amount of time sitting in my car in line without bathroom access (especially with kids). If lineups are shorter, it probably is worthwhile using a regular crossing to chance that they will just wave you through. I haven't yet made a verbal declaration when over my exemption at Nexus to see if they use the same discretion to wave you through like at a regular crossings.

I use the YVR crossings (Point Roberts or Peace Arch) and I always used to wait in the regular line when coming back if I had anything to declare for exactly this reason, but ever since the introduction of verbal declarations in the Nexus lane, I've stuck with that. I'd say I'm averaging 90% at being simply waved through; interestingly, it helps if I actually have the receipts in hand (there was one instance in particular where I could see the agent reach for his notepad, until I produced the receipt at which point he waved me through). Of course, as usual, YMMV.

The office is in Niagara Falls New York next to the bridge in public territory. Cross via Lewiston or Rainbow and drive to the office on Whirlpool Street at Bath Avenue. You can't use the Whirlpool Bridge but there are no offices inside the gates. You can see the parking area on Google Maps if you zoom in on Satellite View or Street View. Well, my 'conditional approval' came in today! ^

Cannot get interview at YYZ until November. :td: I guess I can keep looking for a cancellation.

Now, does anyone know if you can do the Iris scan at Fort Erie or Niagara Falls, NY? (From what I can read in their notice, the answer is 'yes' but just want to make sure.)

I have a flight coming up at the end of August. Does anyone know how 'they' react if you just show up at the office without an appointment? (I expect the answer to this is 'don't do it'.)

Keep checking. I'm positive you can get an appointment before your flight later this month. I managed to secure two separate appointments just after a week after my approval. And the good news is, you get the card about a week after the interview, so you may be able to get everything done before the flight!

Quick edit.. If you can get an earlier appointment in NY, even if you can't get the iris scan done there, just stop in to the office in YYZ before your flight for the scan. As long as you have your card by that point, the iris scan is usable instantly, so by the time you walk out of the office you should be able to walk though pre-clearance and use the kiosk.

According to the CBSA website, both Niagara Falls and Fort Erie have iris photo facilities, although in Canada, not in the Nexus centre in the US side. I did my interview in Champlain, NY, and it was the same thing. On the way back into Canada, you should tell the CBSA officer that you need to take the iris photo, and he/she will direct you to the right place.

xero9 and csa271:

Thanks for the updates and advice. I will keep monitoring.

Sorry for asking this... can't seem to find it anymore... but I vaguely recall reading somewhere that I can't use my NEXUS card entering the USA by air if my Passport is within six months of expiring. Is this true or false? After reading the Nexus sections of the CBSA and CBP sites I can't seem to find anything regarding it.
