As I have used NEXUS when returning to Canada internationally (non-U.S.) for the past four years, I assume that the answer is "yes."

Yes - you can use Nexus to enter Canada from anywhere.

The other hidden benefit is when you apply for Nexus you get US global entry which you can use arriving US from anywhere at an airport. It makes US entry for purpose of transiting very smooth and fast.

For example, I posed the question a few months back regarding the need to report an updated drivers license, and we now have first-hand accounts that go both ways. I guess if YYZ tells me I don't need to do it, all I can do is make sure I signed in, document the date and time of my visit, and keep that on file in case I ever need to appeal an "expired document black mark".

I believe I asked Canadian officer on updating driver license as well and he said no need, as it's not a valid "travel" document (which I agree)....

but I know ENHANCED Driver License is a valid LAND travel document, so I think that blurs the lines as well...

Do we update whether we have EDL or not, or only EDL?

How does one do that? just show/waive the NEXUS card to them? or jump into the priority line with NEXUS card?

I think just go into the line and then show the card when they ask.

I've been lurking for a while so I thought I would contribute:

Applied: June 3rd 2012
Conditional Approved: July 23rd 2012
Interview Scheduled: July 26th 2012 at YVR

Got really lucky and found an open slot. All other time slots around this area (Downtown Vancouver, Blaine, Seattle) are in September/October'ish.

In my recent interview the Canadian officer said that I would have to update the DL, whether enhanced or not. She said to fax a copy of the new document to the NEXUS main office in Vermont, or to stop by an enrollment centre. I would just fax any new document as a matter of course to avoid issues.

Just thought I'd update everyone on my recent interview. Was scheduled for today at 2pm at YYZ. Arrived pretty early, but took a while to navigate the Viscount parking lot (trying to get the 2nd level was more difficult than it should have been, but I'm a bit of a moron!). Quick ride on the Link train and I was at terminal 1. As someone else mentioned, it's between post G and H, but it's sunken in a little so you might not notice it until you're pretty close.

Got to the office around 12:55, and sat down. Luckily, the lady next to me was nice enough to point out that I needed to sign in. She then noticed I was signing the "update" sheet, and not the "new" sheet. I felt kind of stupid, but it was just one of those days.

The Canadian side called me up almost right away, asked why I wanted to join NEXUS, looked at my driver's license and US passport. Took a few iris scans, then sat down for the US side. One of the US officers was kind of a jerk. Someone called my name from the far end, so I started walking down that way, and he kind of snapped at me saying he didn't call me. Turns out it was the guy beside him that called me. Overall, the Canadian agent was much more friendly (not by much though).

Was told I could use GE right away and would have to wait for the NEXUS card to use that. Said I'd get it in about 2 weeks.

When I walked out, it was 1:17pm. Pretty quick I think!

After looking at everything you have to do, and possibly getting fined, I'm kind of scared to actually use the card, LOL. As someone said in response to one of my other posts.. We try to follow the rules as best as we can, but it's difficult.

One thing I want to know, and maybe someone can offer some first hand experience.. If you go shopping in the US and are coming back to Canada, I know you're supposed to declare everything. How specific do you have to be? Say you bought two shirts, a pair of shoes, a cell phone charger, and a box a cereal (completely random items, lol). Do you literally need to list out everything, or can some items be grouped? I might be going to Buffalo shortly after I get my card and want to be prepared.

Sorry for the long post!

Is this a sign that very soon Nexus machines will be phased out when entering the states from Canada ?

I don't see a point of having two different machines to enter the states from CAN while CBP is giving the privilege to nexus card holders to use the GE machines for free when departing from CAN !!!

Nexus Iris Scan Wait Time

My wife and I received our Nexus cards a month ago but because we did the interview at a land crossing (Port Huron) we need to get Iris Scans at YYZ to use the card in the airport.
Does anyone know how long this process will take, where I go and whether they operate on Sundays?

Geez I was just there earlier today, you'd think I'd remember better but here goes.. It's between post G and H, but there are two H posts. I'm 99% sure it's between those two H posts. It's on the departure level.

The process of taking the iris scan is <5 minutes. If you go in and sign the update sheet and take a seat, you shouldn't have to wait long. According to CBSA's site, YYZ NEXUS office is open on Sunday. You could try to call to verify if they do iris scans on Sunday, but because you can schedule appointments for initial applications 7 days a week, I would assume they will.

Here are the numbers listed for YYZ. I'm guessing the 905 might take you to the actual office:

855-866-3987
905-676-3477

The actual iris scan process is quick. But depending on how busy the office is, you might have to wait a bit to get seen.

I got my iris scans done with my initial interview, but when updating docs have had to wait between 20-30 minutes before to be seen after signing in.

You should have all the invoices/receipts handy and I always make a summary, e.g.:

Clothing $134.22
Shoes $179.87
Electronics $9.47
Groceries $2.88

Total: $xxx (I'm lazy)

The officer will ask what you spent. Tell him/her you spent $xxx. You may be asked what you bought. I'd answer, in this example case, "Clothing, shoes, some electronics and a box of cereal. I have a list if you would like to see it." Chances are they won't, but if they do, hand it over.

I do this routinely and have never had any issue. The exact accuracy of the list is not critical within reason, but have all the receipts present so that you cannot be accused of failing to declare something. Do specifically declare alcohol and tobacco, for sure.

My experience with Nexus + IRIS EXEMPT CHILD

Just wanted to give our experience with Nexus (3 of us) + Child Exempt Iris (1x)
Wife
Myself
6 yo son used nexus successfully
Walked to the CBSA officer and she immediately said "Iris Exempt I presume" and had us walk to the front to talk to a CBSA Officer in booth. He quickly processed my 2yo daughter with her Nexus card and voila. I would say for 4 of us, 5 minutes total.

Given that CBSA still runs CANPASS Air the NEXUS machines must remain as they are also used for CANPASS.

Thanks Jim!

Looking forward to trying this out in the near future.

That's my belief. Once they've been in for a while and more people use them, I think you'll see the machines slowly disappear to naturally move people the GE machines. I'm actually good with that. My experience is that GE is the same or faster while you're at the machine, and pretty easy to use, AND (my experience only) seems to be more stable - always up, doesn't crash in the middle of my entry.

Now, as a PP said, the NEXUS machines will have to stay when entering Canada, because of the CANPASS program, but going to the US I expect they will go away.
