Processing time data

I found this thread very useful, so I thought that I would add my processing times in order to provide more data for people going through the process.

- submitted application on 29 May 2012
- conditionally approved 15 July 2012
- interview scheduled at Champlain processing centre on 18 July 2012

The earliest slot available at YUL was on 18 November 2012, but got this slot in Champlain on the first try.

Thought I should share my strange experience with my appointment last weekend. A few days before my appointment, I got a call from the Nexus office telling me that since I was only having a renewal that I didn't need to keep my appointment last Saturday evening and that I should just show up any time for "finger prints".

I was a little weary of this new advice as it seemed somewhat odd. I showed up on Saturday morning (my original appointment was at 6:00 pm) and told them why I was there. The Canadian told me to sign in and then when I got in front of the Americans a few minutes later they complained about all the people showing up without appointments today and basically said that the office didn't know what they were doing. Luckily they processed me anyway, so not sure if this was a failed experiment or a new way to handle renewals.

The processing guys were actually pretty casual and were joking around a lot. Very refreshing for a change.

@yyzgigi I guess we still "don't know" if you need an appointment.
However, I've heard from others that you do not need an appointment for a renewal.

Just showing up is a pretty lame. I'd be ticked off too since they had to delay someone else to push you through.

It would be really nice if you could post details about your interview experience in Champlain because I have an appointment there in a few weeks.

I have already figured the Where to park/Where to go parts but I would like to know how the interview goes and where to go afterwards for the iris scan as I read somewhere that it was done in the "adjacent Canadian office"...

jmbjmbjmb,

I don't know for certain, but looking at the list of enrollment centers, it doesn't seem there is really an adjacent office.. Looking at the list, there is only one is Quebec which is at Montreal airport. I suppose ~40 miles could be considered adjacent.

Got Global Entry within a few days in January, tried Nexus since I had a trip planned to Canada and go at least once a year. Applied 6/20, still waiting. Probably should've done it earlier since I just had a trip to Canada last week, was hoping to get the NEXUS interview done with, but this gives me another excuse for a vacation whenever I can get an interview set up. How bad are the backlogs at YVR?

According to the CBSA website, Champlain should have iris photo capabilities:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/location-eng.html

My understanding is that the camera for it is physically in the Canadian side, not in the US site. I will provide an account following my interview on Wednesday.

Application -> Conditional Approval seems to be about 7-8 weeks, so you likely won't get it until late August.

As for YVR, currently appointments are from October 16th and onward. As you probably know, you'll be able to secure a better spot if you check periodically. I was able to bump my YYZ appointment to later this month by the 2nd day of checking.

Do I need Card at Airport?

In Canada, just finished my Interview and Iris.
Status is showing approved.

Do I need a card for the airport.
As I recall, there is a Nexus security line just wondering if I need to show the card to use that line.

For Nexus, yes. For Global Entry, no.

Yes - you need the card to use nexus machine and nexus security line.

I made a map on Google Maps... the green merker represents the location of the NEXUS interview and the three purple markers represent the three most likely locations of the iris scan on the canadian side of the checkpoint

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...07062,0.007328

I know this seems like a very odd question that will most likely be answered during the interview but I really like to arrive somewhere and know EXACTLY where to go beforehand, like if I need to visualize what I will need to do :)

Since when do you need the card to use the Nexus machine. That has never been a requirement

And when the checker asks to see your card when you hand in your receipt, and you don't have it, what do you say?
