YYC next avail is in August. I don't really understand how Toronto or Vancouver will have avaibility in the next days and not YYC.
More staff in bigger cities probably

moreover, i keep reading about the iris scan, but that is done at certain locations. It seems like the Blaine crossing does not offer the iris scan...

You can get the iris scan done at the Canadian commercial customs building immediately across the border, Monday through Friday only. They'll include a small map in the packet of information they give you at the interview. If you head all the way up to YVR, they're open seven days a week for iris scans.

They insisted I remove my contacts just for the initial baseline iris scan. It's worked fine since with contacts in. I wish they'd point it out a bit more clearly in the letter...it's buried in the fine print.

YVR and YYZ are usually booked out a few months in advance as well.

Regarding appointments - Another tip to 'keep checking.'

My colleague's appointment was in July, but, per the advice in here, I told him to check every few days and an appointment appeared two weeks from now, which he snagged.

Just one more datapoint. Pearson was previously completely slammed, but they actually flew in an extra team for a couple weeks to clear the backlog. They were bookable as the cryptically named Toronto Side 1 and Side 2 in the system.

That being said, in my appointment, the Canadians were fast, friendly, and efficient. The American officers clearly hated their jobs and were super slow. Just as the waiting room was filling up, two officers took off on lunch, leaving 4 Canadians and 1 American working.

That's my experience of US Federal employees in any country outside the USA. They just come across as hating having to work outside their border. I imagine most foreign workers who are forced to work away from home are like that, but these guys .. wow.

The ones in YYZ pre-clearance, especially so.

As one who grew up in Montreal, I'd too would be grumpy if my assignment forced me to live in or around Toronto. ;)

Agreed about YYZ, though I had the opposite experience when I did my NEXUS interview at YEG in 2011. Canadian officer was rude, and certainly did not seem to enjoy his job. On the flip-side, the US officer was very friendly, spent about 10 minutes chatting with me about sports and traveling while we waited for the Canadian guy to finish an interview with another person.

Just an FYI. They aren't forced to work outside their borders, they are there because they chose to be there. It can be a very lucrative assignment and there's a lot of competition for it.

In any event -- I've got an inter-US flight tomorrow - US city to US city. Glad to note that my boarding pass shows that my Nexus status is giving me TSA-Pre. (Lots on that over in the United forum).

I've got a lot of inter-US flights coming up, and its nice to know that on some (or many) occasions my Nexus continues to help out.

Maybe a useful data reference for others.

How do you get Nexus status shown on your boarding pass?

Trusted Traveler Program

I am wondering if Nexus and Global entry have basically been combined? The 2 programs used to be listed seperately in goes, but when I signed in recently there is only one program listed called Trusted Traveler program.

I guess that makes renewal easier since I only need to renew the one program.

From the US perspective, there are three trusted traveler programs (NEXUS, SENTRI and Global Entry). NEXUS and SENTRI are Global Entry with additional benefits, essentially.
