Got my Conditional Approval today. Applied Sep 1st and Conditional Approval Oct 1st. Booked Forte Erie Dec 8th. I am happy it did not take much more as many applicants lately. Hope they are speeding the process for everyone.

Curious, has anyone actually gotten a Nexus card even they had a prior customs violation? If so how long ago was your violation?

Quick question... I'm pretty sure I know the answer but can't find it confirmed/written for certain.

I have a Nexus membership currently suspended as the card is reported lost (replacement approved and interview is tomorrow.) I am also enroled with Global Entry.

In this condition, am I allowed to use Global Entry to enter the US using my passport and fingers, even if I don't have my Nexus card and my Nexus account is not in good standing.

(ie I'm not sure how closely Global Entry and Nexus are linked, ie is my GI still in good standing even though my Nexus is temporarily on hold.)

I checked this morning and Fort Erie had an interview slot open for tomorrow (Oct 03) so I snagged it... Better than mid-December like my previous schedule!

Is your NEXUS membership suspended or just the card? I would think just the card would be, but I could be wrong. Would be curious to know what happens if you use the demo kiosk if your actual membership were suspended.

Not sure how soon you plan on using GE, but if your interview is tomorrow at the very least you should be able to use GE tomorrow after you interview. When I applied originally, I was told I could use GE right away (obviously not needing the card)

Not sure how the Nexus demo kiosks work, but when I was getting my GE fingerprints done initially at ORD, I asked if using that meant my GE was working right away. I got the answer that it was working, but that the demo kiosks weren't connected to live systems, and that anyone could walk in and successfully use the demo. I presume the Nexus demo kiosks are the same.

7 years prior to application, about $300 undeclared, probably $140 in penalties.

Declared on application, got some scolding at the interview but got approved (didn't think it was going to happen!)

Just wondering if I have to inform NEXUS that I've got a new passport.....sorry if this is a stupid question, but I wasn't sure if the systems are linked at all or not. Thanks FT'ers!

Yes, definitely! Some say you can do it over the phone, but I've found that the only way to make sure the system is correctly updated is to drop into any Nexus office. No appointment required.

Nexus machine at YUL just asked me a new question:

Are you "ABTC"?

I said no and proceeded.

Anyone know what this is?

I think it may stand for APEC Business Travel Card. Was it a Nexus kiosk or a Global Entry one? It would not make sense for a Nexus machine to ask that question since Nexus is between US and Canada only.

NEXUS is for entering Canada from any country; not just from the USA.

I was told at the NEXUS office that you have to update the information and the US will accept the information for their passports on the GOES site but Canada wants to see it in person.

Get a NEXUS card if you plan to fly into JFK international! The immigration queue time is absolutely horrific, more than two hours! It's inhumane after a 9hrs+ flight. Note that there seems to be no specific customs desk after you picked up your suitcase and you cut in front of people who have been standing in two queues for like three hours at that point... people were hollering at me and security needed to stop them stating "he paid for it" -- hell yes, I can't stand these queues, take my eyeballs :P

It is about time

Hi there, I had a customs violation from CBSA, it stays on their system for 6 years total, 5 years and 1 year to purge, that's what the supervisor told me. Well, 6 years have passed me and I applied for a card, I mentioned the violation on my application, I still got my pre-approved letter, went for my interview, 1 of the questions was "have I been found in any customs violations?" (the CBP agent asked me that) my answer was CBP-no, CBSA-yes, the guy leans back in his chair, crosses his arms, and asks, "really? what happened?" and he was still all smiles! which was nice. I told him what happened, and he told me, if you pull that stunt again while on the Nexus program, it's game over!...I said trust me,,,I've learned my lesson! he said "good to hear!"

anyways, bottom line, got approved, just received my card in the mail, done!
