They tend to open blocks at the GTA area in chunks. It doesn't seem to be a rolling window. You do need to have an appointment booked before 30 days passes (or whatever the notice says - forgive me not going to check the wiki) so just grab one that you could theoretically tolerate going to, and diligently watch for cancellations and new YYZ&etc. windows. You can reschedule to a later date once you have an appointment booked, as well as to a different centre.

nexus
i applied for my sons nexus card on October 5, 2013 and he was just conditionally approved today Sept 2, 2013 the email said the earliest appt was dec 31,2013 so what i did was i selected a different location to be interviewed and it allowed to be reselect my desired location ( the one that said Dec 31, 2013) It then allowed me to select Sept 4, 2013 @ 12:45 P.M. His appointment is now set for Sept 4 @ 12:45 P.M. :)

Interesting data point...I thought it'd be at least another month or so...
Initial Application: August 1st Conditional Approval: September 3rd I'm not seeing any available timeslots for YYZ, Fort Erie, or Niagara Falls. It just says "No available time slot, please select another enrollment center". Is this normal? Shouldn't it just go to the next day (even if 2014) that's available? Quick question - when I go for the interview, is there anything else I need to do to be enrolled into GE as well? Or is everything automatic now and once I get the nexus card, can just use either depending on preference? |
Your GE is a benefit from NEXUS and they will handle that for you at the interview. It's "automatic" for all practical purposes, but it involves taking your fingerprints as well as your "eyeprints" and if it was NEXUS only, you would not need fingerprints taken.

My approval took about 22 hours in Detroit. I did not receive an email confirmation.
Just got my approval email today, a full 3 days after my approval posted to GOES. |

Yes, trmbn65, I know. I was informing Globex why they were not seeing any appointments. My point was to just grab any appointment anywhere and then use Reschedule Appointment to fine-tune the actual appointment date and location because you cannot just sit around waiting for the block to open. There is no information on the site to tell you when the next block will be released. (The wait time is not an issue and it varies. Ft Erie may be 5-6 weeks but YYZ is much farther off, when the block finally opens.) What is important is that you have to get an appointment booked or the conditional approval will expire. Once you have an appointment booked, you can push it off or relocate it or move it closer in location or time, but you have to get it booked.
Regarding the iris scan, yes I also know that. Globex was asking if GE was "automatic" when you get your NEXUS and I was splitting hairs. NEXUS on its own doesn't collect fingerprints. As you say, NEXUS air crossings use iris scans. Therefore NEXUS does not "automatically" give you GE but since they just go ahead and do the fingerprints at the same interview, practically speaking, you're doing a "combined NEXUS/GE intake appointment" not a "NEXUS intake appointment and getting automatic GE". |

On another note, the response times for a phone inquiry is excellent. I tried 2 Nexus/GE centers for a question. Got voicemail at both and left my phone number. Both called back within 2 hours.

nexus interview
my interview was set for Feb of 2014 , it took 3 weeks from the day i filed to get an approval from nexus. i called nexus to get an earlier interview and they said to keep checking online for cancellations. i was amazed to get an interview for this saturday. i was approved this past Tuesday (Sept 3) and i found an interview for this Saturday (Sept 7) wow that was fast. just be patient and keep pressing "refresh" till you get an earlier interview date :)

Hello!
New to this site - stumbled across it while looking for info re: Nexus applications. Thanks for the great/helpful info! Just a quick question - we applied online on August 13 (myself, husband, and 3 young children). Had been told that the wait time for processing was 4-6 weeks. I have been checking our GOES accounts daily hoping to see an update (trip to Miami at the end of October), but nothing yet. I had to phone the processing place in Montreal this afternoon with a quick question, and he told me the wait time is now 3 months, and that it has been that way since June of last year due to high volume. Has that been a common experience? We live in Nova Scotia, if that helps. Just trying to determine what the chances are that we will have the cards before our trip (last week of October). Thanks in advance for your thoughts! |

IMHO, no chance. Wait times vary but 2-3 months seems the norm PLUS you then have to do your interview which again can be 3 months out.
