That's good to hear that they are flexible as I am taking a half day and may be cutting it close if I get caught in traffic. I think I know where that turn off is by looking at the Google Maps satellite view. It looks like the turn off is just before the toll booths, under the bridge, which made it hard to find from the satellite view.

What else did you have to do to enroll in TSA pre-check? I am asking because that is one of the primary reasons that I chose to enroll in NEXUS.

I put my PASSID (which is in GOES and on the back of the Nexus card) into all my frequent flyer accounts that supported Precheck and any existing reservations I had already made. Make sure the name, birthdate, gender and PASSID in your Secure Flight profile match exactly with GOES.

Make sure you check upthread on the AC OLCI though ... if your NEXUS number is in the system BEFORE you OLCI, you won't be able to OLCI. So if your flight is Precheck-eligible (US to US), have it there if you want, but if you can't OLCI for your flight to or from Canada, check to see if it's blocking your OLCI and remove it, check in and put it back in. Clearly a bug, because there's no sense for it to be that way.

Since AC is not a PreCheck participant, adding the NEXUS number to an AC reservation will not yield PreCheck.

I haven't heard of any issues with United. They make it pretty easy to add your PASSID right to your frequent traveler account.

I submitted my renewal on July 2 and received conditional approval on Aug 19. Booked appointment on Aug 20 for Winnipeg Airport on Aug 29th. I believe the earliest available when I booked was Aug 27. Definitely a lot of interview availability in Winnipeg!

Connection between Canada/USA and back - YVR; no nexus nor GE

Unfortunately, there is no nexus lane in either direction for security, nor nexus/GE lane for US preclearance. I found out the hard way when travelling with family from YOW to HNL via YVR on AC over a week ago, and returning back today.

In theory, these connection lanes are considered "express" lanes - but at each of the 3 (2 security and 1 US preclearance) lanes, I had to wait over 15 min - and with US preclearance, we were of course questioned as if we were not nexus/GE members.

New app submitted 6/20.

Approved 8/16.

Interview: 8/27.

This is at the Sweetgrass, MT crossing (120 miles N of GTF or 200 miles S of YYC). If you're in a hurry recommend using this xing. Obviously much quicker than the major crossings or BE field in Seattle.

Avoid checked luggage and don't follow the "US connections" signs :p

Then you get NEXUS security and NEXUS/GE preclearance.

Can a NEXUS member, as a passenger in a vehicle in the regular non-NEXUS lanes enter the US with just the card?

I ask because I want to go on a quick weekend trip with a few friends who don't have NEXUS. I won't have my passport as I just applied for a new one today.

Absolutely. Just don't use the NEXUS lanes unless everybody in the car has a NEXUS card... you aren't even allowed to drop off the non-NEXUS cardholders to walk across while you drive through the NEXUS lane, then pick them up on the other side.

Can one go through non-connecting US preclearance lane when connecting at YYZ,YUL,YVR

It is not clear to me if one can legally go via the regular (non-connection) US preclearance lanes, if one is connecting and has checked baggage?

I know I could do this in YYZ, YUL, and YVR when one had to collect one's baggage while going through US preclearance at those 3 airports. The question is whether one can do so now?

Thanks for that - so looking at about 2 months for new app to be processed...

This is a big unanswered question on Flyertalk.

I think the answer must be 'yes' because smokers need to be able to leave the terminal to go outside and get some nicotine in their systems. Furthermore, if someone 'accidentally' exited (it's not hard to do) then I can't imagine they're never allowed back in.

When you arrive at the CBP they scan your boarding pass and view a picture of your bag. One must assume it makes no difference whether you dropped that bag off, or it was transferred for you.

But in the end, like I said, it remains an unanswered question.

I guess someone needs to try it. Perhaps a smoker in the 'airside smoking' thread would know.

Yes, I can confirm I have done this more than once. There was not even a hint of a question from the CBP or CBSA. Nexus cards are valid entry documents for land by themselves. Air you need your passport for.

If you used your passport as an admissibility documents and it expires, however, your NEXUS card will not work. When you get your new passport, you would need to visit an enrollment center to have it updated.
