Given that most airports seem to be shunting pax from the regular to the Nexus line if there's no one in the latter, it would seem logical that this "should" be possible, especially if the Nexus line is not busy.
Ask nicely, the worst they can say is no. |

I agree with you that the US and Canadian customs and immigration officials need to see your passport, in addition to your nexus card.
However, I am implying, and you can correct me (and the agent who told me last night about this) if I am wrong - that for flight check-in and for flight boarding (both airline only responsibility) both for domestic and transborder flights, one can show nexus cards (instead of driver's license or passports for domestic flights, and instead of passports for transborder flights). I have my passport in my back pocket until I'm on the plane. I've had TSA tell me they couldn't take NEXUS, and ask for a driver's license instead (???), and I've had both check-in and gate agents have to spend a good 5 minutes calling around to see if I could use NEXUS. So if you want things to go smoothly, use your passport. |
AC check-in agent at MCO (returning to YYZ) rejected my NEXUS card and asked for passport. I helpfully said "it's a NEXUS card" and she helpfully said "we don't accept NEXUS cards". I calmly retrieved my passport and she calmly scanned it, and off I went. Since both were out, I offered both to the person at the entrance to security, and which did she grab? The NEXUS card. Go figure. Put passport away, and used NEXUS card at the scanner machine AND at the departure gate AND of course at the NEXUS machine at YYZ. Passport never came out again.
I don't know what they mean by "cannot enter NEXUS number into profile". I seem to recall that you CAN enter the NEXUS number (maybe it is just on a specific PNR, not the whole profile). Hmmm. However worth mentioning again that there is a bug in the system and you CANNOT OLCI if your NEXUS number is there prior to the point of OLCI (i.e., the Advance Passenger Information). You have to blank out the field in order to complete OLCI (unless they have fixed it.) |
This is what the AC web site says about required documents on flights between Canada and USA or within Canada:(link:http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelin...ldoc.html#a-us)

I have entered my Nexus card on-line when entering my data and used it at the gate to & from the US with no issues, many times. Only issue happened once with SSSS when the CATSA agent at YVR transborder could only say passport in broken English. I had my nexus card in hand and all she could say was passport! It was extremely funny, I switched to Canada's other official language and well........ it would make a great skit on AirFarce or this hour has 22 minutes! :)

I thought the chances of getting an SSSS (or random second inspection by CATSA agents) would be pretty slim, if using a nexus card.
No great delay, except I refused to let my valuables out of my sight when they wanted to cart me off for screening while my stuff was going through the scanner. IMHO, that has to be the least secure place in any airport - you get taken away or distracted while your stuff is completely unattended. |

Yes you would think so, but no! it's a random thing and you always know that when you cant OLCI:D |
Only last week, the guy in front of us in line simply walked away with our back pack from the screening belt. Good thing we noticed it and chased him last minute.

Once I got at YYZ a secondary inspection at CBP and SSSS  That's a real pain  I boarded the plane just seconds before closing the jetty door.
Gross. It makes me wonder though -- we're cleared for Nexus. We're cleared for TSA-PRE which I now use regularly for in-US flights. We've been vettted 27 different ways to Sunday...I really wonder what is the point. |
The Mrs. just went through her interview and received an email a few hours later confirming she has her final approval.
Nothing really out of the ordinary based on others' experiences shared in this thread, except for one thing. When asked by the US agent why she wanted Nexus, she answered "because my husband has it and is fed up of waiting in lines when we travel together." That prompted the officer to ask her to write my name down and be proceeded to look through my file. He never mentioned anything else about it, just moved on. Thought that was interesting and out of the ordinary from what I've read. |
