Not a big diff. but I've never had to show anyone my Nexus card other than to go through the Nexus lane @ security.

I actually prefer the Nexus machines, and thought they were faster. I only use GE so that I can see if I have to get sent to secondary by way of a big "X" on my receipt, as opposed to some random number with Nexus that only CPB can recognize. Also, I'm a fan of the GE receipts, and it makes me feel more American.

US and Canadian Entry and Family by air - all nexus cardholders

Let us say that the 3 of us are all nexus/GE cardholders - which we will be soon?.

Do each of us enter a customs declaration form on the GE machine, or only 1 of us does so for the whole family, when entering USA by air.

Does each of us write a customs declaration form on the paper form, or only 1 of us does so for the whole family, when using a nexus machine to enter USA (assuming that there is still such a thing), when entering USA by air?

If we arrive in Canada by air, does each of us fill out a Canadian declaration form, or does one fill out one customs declaration form for the whole family, when using the nexus machine?

You don't need a paper form when using GE.

When using NEXUS each person needs their own form, regardless of what the FA says when they hand them out.

When you log on to GOES, there should be a message that tells you whether or not you can use GE. If you took all ten fingerprints, you should be set.

I like to have a blue US form filled out, just in case I have to use the few remaining NEXUS machine on the way out. It's no biggie, I keep a stack at home.

Coming back, if everyone is living at the same address: one white Canadian form only. Just did that earlier this week with the family and have done for years.

I was told at my NEXUS interview that when using NEXUS, each person had to have their own form even if they live at the same address. Perhaps this has changed?

I agree about having extra US forms, though I would only pre-fill just the info that never changes so I can use it in the future instead of wasting it.

What's really cool was:-
- It takes a picture of you
- It knows what flight you're going to go on
- It seems to be much faster than the NEXUS kiosks
- The touchscreen appears to be more responsive
- You can choose the status you are entering in (e.g. L1 visa, Visa Waiver Program, etc)
- It worked. (I was worried that I would have issues with my foreign passport)
- You don't need to listen to the irritating voice "MOVE LEFT A LITTLE"... "MOVE RIGHT A LITTLE"... "MOVE BACK A LITTLE"... "THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION"

What's not cool was:
- You have to take your passport out and get it scanned. No more leaving the passport in your bag.
- You still have to show the person at guarding the NEXUS entry area your NEXUS card at the gate. So you gotta take out your passport AND nexus card.

Go up to post #6650 (page 440 I think).
Apparently you can use NEXUS card instead of passport in GE machine. Since you need to wave the card to get into fast lines, you likely will already have it out.

allbrosca Apr 12, 2013 7:26 am

Funny. I did not know that. Whenever Mrs. Allbrosca and I travel together we only use one form going into the US and coming back and hand them in together with the print out from the NEXUS machine. No one has ever said anything.

The have the NEXUS member's guide in front of me; unfortunately, it is quite vague on this point.

Under "Crossing the Border in the Air Mode", for entering Canada it says "All persons entering Canada by air must have completed a CBSA Declaration Card (Form E311)." For entering the US it reads "All persons entering the United States must complete U.S. CBP Customs Declaration Form (Form 6059B)."

Who knows if that just means everyone must be included in a completed card or if every one must have a complete card.

BlondeBomber Apr 12, 2013 9:38 am

we have always just filled out one card for both of us in all the years we have had nexus (over 5 years now). This applies to US and Canada cards.

DLFan2 Apr 12, 2013 10:52 am

I would interpret the instructions to mean that you had to be included on a form, either singly or collectively. Sounds like the voice of experience confirms this.

Has anyone tried to use NEXUS with just a single form covering more than one person, and been told to stop and fill out separate forms?

Incidentally, when I renewed my Nexus recently, I went to get it updated with CBP and the first guy didn't think Nexus was eligible, but fortunately the agent that referred me to the office showed up 10 min later and showed him how to do it.

The stickers are no longer issued. I got one back in January, but shortly after that, they were eliminated. The FAQ on the GE website confirms this.

neely47 Apr 12, 2013 9:16 pm

How often do you talk with the border agents when using the NEXUS lane? Or do they wave you through most of the time?

FlyerGoldII Apr 12, 2013 9:38 pm

NEXUS/GE and cruises?

If I want to go on Caribbean cruise from FL, coming back, will I be able to (as a nexus cardholder) using the global entry machines? If so, machines located in most FL and CA ports, and also in Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands? Do they require a global entry card (which Canadian nexus members do not get), or can one use the global entry machines that read fingerprints?

If I go on an Alaska cruise from Vancouver, coming back to Vancouver - are there nexus lanes?
