No tracking system.
Agree that once "Approved" you will have your card in a very few days. |
I just scheduled my nexus interview through GOES - at YVR the soonest available appt was September 4th. :( I've seen some of you say you've gotten last minute cancellations - how? It automatically gave me the next available appointment so did you just keep logging on, hitting refresh and hope someone has cancelled an appt? And through luck of the draw, it shows up for you as next available?

I just received renewal reminder from GOES , expiry October.
I do not travel that much but still worth it mostly for Global Entry. My next confirmed travel is Nov.12, through Calgary. I would like to do the renewal interview on the way out. My question relates to the scheduling mechanism. I know once conditional renewal approval has been received I must book interview within 30 days. If I apply for renewal, say, September, receive conditional and the system gives me an interview date of, for example, Oct. 30th, can I go in to GOES and look at further out dates? Hopefully, Nov. 12th. I hate to fly in to ywg or yyc for 15 minutes of interview. For those who access Goes to get a quicker interview date do you see a multi month calender? |
Am I blind, or did Nexus vanish from YYZ connections?
I connected in YYZ (thumbs up to the new system where you don't need to pick up your bag), the other day - and I'm certain that there were three global entry machines at US Customs and no nexus machines. In the past there used to be one of each. Am I blind, or did they really get rid of nexus at YYZ cross-border?
|
I think blind. I was through last week and at step 3 they asked if you had Nexus and directed you to the right and there was a bank of machines. I'm pretty sure there was a Nexus machine.
Of course, I had been drinking so I could be wrong. |
Yes that's the same spot I'm talking about. Nexus is red, and global entry is grey and I'm almost positive all three were grey. In the past Nexus was the very last one (i.e. closest to customs officer), but there was no such machine this time?!?! Or, am I blind?

I just got my nexus card a few days ago.
A few days prior to that, my family and I went to PHX from YOW via YYZ on AC. In the US preclearance area in T1, for connections, I could not see any nexus machines from the regular lineup lanes. However, given a choice between nexus and global entry, why would anyone want to use nexus? I think that using a nexus machine may be more tedious than using a global entry machine, based upon many of the posts I have read in this thread? |
Last time I originated at YYZ (mid-March), there were about 10 Global Entry machines and 2 Nexus machines, both of which were turned off with a sign saying to "please use Global Entry." Thumbs up to that -- Global Entry is so much better, and I'm impressed by the number of machines!
|
there was a sign on the Global Entry machines (at least the one I used) which said you had to be enrolled for Global Entry, not just Nexus to use it - but I too prefer Global Entry and only use Nexus on the way back to Canada.

YES - keep logging on and updating - and don't wait more than 1 minute to confirm the change or somebody else will take appointment.
I, on her behalf, logged onto the GOES site, to set up an interview. To my surprise at 8:30 PM EDT, I found an available time for interview (actually 3) for last week Sunday at about 2:20 PM, or 42 hours later. By the time I booked my wife's appointment, the other 2 slots were gone (I wanted to get the other 2 for my sister-in-law and also for my daughter, who had also just received their conditional approval for nexus). So, the moral of the story - sooner or later (I was lucky on the sooner side) you will get a good time and date - but you need to log in continuously from first thing in the morning to last thing in the evening - even outside normal working hours. |
My understanding is that Nexus is soon to be removed from US pre-clearance facilities entirely, and that Global Entry will be used instead.
Global Entry is faster, although it seems a bit fiddly the first few times you use it. No customs declaration card needs to be completed. You have to have been fingerprinted to use GE. Prints are routinely taken during the Nexus application process for most people, but for some reason not for others. |
There's a whole other thread and I wrote about this a month ago.
Nexus is soon (now?) gone from YYZ-->US preclearance. A week ago, there were just 2 machines, and they were both inoperative. But a line of 12 Global Entry machines... Folks, like I said a few months ago, it's all now Global Entry. Don't be scared of the new machines. YYZ T1 actually has a helpful CBP dude by the Nexus who will help you check to see if it works for you. You can also check through the GOES Web site to see if you are qualified. |
Ok, so in that case, I'm positive that what I saw is accurate, and that there is no longer Nexus at YYZ connections. I didn't see any Nexus machines as I walked past the regular non-connection part of YYZ, but I was far away so I could be mistaken on the latter.
