I had an original date of mid July when I got my approval on March 20 at YYZ. I checked about 8-10 times a day for 2 days and on March 22 I got an interview for March 26. So cancellations do happen, you just need to be checking.

Yes it's exactly that, keep checking as often as you can for cancellations. Several times a day closer interview dates comes available.
I booked a July interview for my girlfriend and found a cancellation for tomorrow afternoon.
Usually these last minute cancellations wont last long so you have to be very fast and keep checking even every minute if you can
good luck !

On the american side: probably YES and very soon.

On the canadian side: I think CAN will stick to the NEXUS kiosks forever.

Coming Back to Canada - Customs Declaration Card vs Traveler Declaration Card?

I will be getting a nexus card in the mail soon - having been approved for nexus at the interview 6 days ago at YOW.

I have been reading this thread, and other links to the nexus program, and its regulations. I have a question on declaration.

If I use regular lanes by land or by air, can I use either card?

If I use the nexus lanes by land or by air, can I use either card?
(ps-if I am allowed to use the the customs declaration card while using the land nexus lane, I can always stockpile such forms when next coming back to Canada from USA or another foreign country; I wonder if the custom declaration form is available on-line).

Regarding the 51% country of origin rule, when declaring - it that only valid with TDC, or also with the customs declaration form? Does this 51% rule also apply if I am coming in the non-nexus lanes with others, who are not nexus members?

I'm not sure what the second card you're referring to is, but regular lane by land you are allowed to use your NEXUS card. By air, always carry your passport. You should be able to get through most checkpoints with a NEXUS card, but customs will likely want to see your passport.

By land, only your NEXUS card is required. By air, keep your NEXUS card and passport with you, but using the NEXUS kiosk if you don't answer yes to either of the questions and you're not randomly selected you shouldn't need to produce the card.

I think you mean "you shouldn't need to produce the passport"?

You can use the Nexus card in any lane both land and air.
If you use Nexus lanes, you must have a nexus card. You must also have a completed customs declaration form by air only.
For land, you do not need a customs declaration card. Just tell them what you have and if you are over, they will send you in to pay your duty/tax.
Dont know about the 51%.

I had a similar experience-Applied beginning of March, conditional approval letter April 1st-when I went to schedule an interview at YYZ first available date was June 14. Went back in this morning and now have an appointment for April 6.
Anyone have interview experience at YYZ? Sounds like the office may be a bit hard to find?

My understand is if the kiosk lets you through you can keep both your card and passport in your bag and proceed out with just the receipt from the machine. IF you've been selected for a secondary you need to have both your card and passport ready.

I worded it the way I did because he was asking about the card, not the passport.

Now, nothing in Vancouver at all

Over a week without appointments available at Vancouver Downtown, now YVR has no available appointments too. Someone's slacking...

Update April 3, 2013 @ 7:32 - Both Vancouver Downtown and YVR now have appointments into September.

Office at YYZ is just outside the entrance to transborder customs clearance. The letter gives lots of instructions where to park. Ignore it and just park as if for US departure, enter T1 terminal and go to the area you normally get the US immigration card to fill in. You will see a HUGE sign you may never have noticed before saying NEXUS.

Ah, my mistake. I've not yet used the NEXUS kiosks. For some reason I thought the card provides the info about you and the iris scan verifies that you're the person on the card, but apparently the iris scan is enough to do it all. Cool! I wonder how they convert that to an index into the database?

No worries :) I've been yet to use it myself except for the demo kiosk on two occasions.

I was wondering about the query on the database as well. You'd think it would make more sense to use the iris scan as a verification after pulling up your file by the code on the bottom of the card, but it is pretty amazing that it identifies you instantaneously just from your eyes. Plus the fact that you don't need to pull anything out of your bag most of the time!

Sorry About confusion - Customs Declaration Form vs TDC

Sorry, about the confusion when I mentioned customs declaration card. I meant the customs declaration form - E311.

My question relates to the form or card used for customs declaration purposes; it does not relate to the use of a card for crossing the border by land or by air. Of course, I know that I need to carry and use the nexus card, whether crossing by air or by land, whether I have nothing to declare, something within the duty exemption limit to declare, or an amount over and above the duty exemption limit, to declare.

So in each of the scenarios mentioned above, can I use the E311 customs declaration form rather than the traveler declaration card (TDC)? For the land nexus lanes, can I get away with any form or card, as is currently the case with most travelers using non-nexus lanes when coming back into Canada from USA.

See the link re: stating the origin of the majority of the items (ie 51%) when declaring:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-vo...tions-eng.html

I believe the 51% requirement is nexus-specific - ie if one declares and is not a nexus cardholder, then the 51% country of origin for declaration purposes, does not apply?

I have the NEXUS interview on Saturday in Detroit. Did anyone for their interview bring proof of their permanent resident status (rent bill, utility bill, mortgage statement)? Did they even ask for it or not?
