When you clicked "reschedule appointment", does it hold the previously booked time until another date is selected? (I am a professor so I have no flexibility in my teaching time although my non-teaching duties can be shifted to the wee hours.) I can do my time on Nov 1, so I want to hold on to that unless I can get a date before mid October (which would allow me to use the pass right away on a trip.
Point is, keep checking. You can at least hold on to your Nov 1st appointment unless you see something in September or October that is just as convenient for you. Best of luck :) |

Hi all,
I just applied for a Nexus card last week, so I don't expect to see the interview option for a while yet, however, I have a question. I can't give you a 100% certain answer, but I suspect you may be okay. Out of curiosity, you must have applied online through GOES? What did you put for your passport information? Was it under your maiden name? You may want to phone the NEXUS enrolment center and explain the situation. I'm sure it's come up before. Normally I would say it's not worth renewing your passport simply because of a name change, but from what I understand your passport isn't useful for the last 6 months anyway, so really you don't have too much time left on it. Might be worth renewing anyway. Just a thought! |
thanks xero9

Looks like the wait times have decreased since all the news reports early in the summer saying that it was taking months to be conditionally approved.
Anyone have experience with a reapplication due to a application denial? I made a terrible decision to not fully declare the value of items I was bringing back with me in September 2006. In May of 2010, I made a Nexus application hoping that enough time had passed that I wouldn't be affected. Well I was and my application was denied. I posted around that time int his very thread and was told to try and get in contact with the redress committee. This ended up turning into an appeal for that charge of failure to declare, as that's what the CBSA advised me. I received a letter in the summer of 2010 stating that decision made by the redress committee surrounding my file does not allow them to reverse the decision to deny my application. However, the last line in that letter was most interesting: "You may re-apply to the NEXUS program on September 4th, 2012". During my course of going through various contacts at the CBSA, I found that in general (unless its something of very serious nature), records get wiped after six years (which makes sense as to why they advised me to re-apply on September 4th, 2012. So, has anyone go through something similar then me? What was the outcome? I'm hoping to get approved this time around as I find myself travelling across by land every two or three days. Edit: Also, it seems like depending on the location, there can be a lengthy wait to get an interview. I hope to get one at YVR so I can get the iris scan done at the same time, but if another location (that doesn't have an iris scanner) is faster and I choose to go there, how easy is it to get an iris scan done at YVR at a later date? |
I'm in the process of changing my driver's license and residency. I put down my old address and (IIRC) old driver's license information when applying in GOES. I have an interview scheduled next month but will be getting a new driver's license next week from a different U.S. state. Is there anything I need to do before I go to my interview, and will this create any problems?
Also, although I do cross the Canadian border a small handful of times a year (for purely pleasure reasons) and would like to have NEXUS for that, the real reason I did NEXUS is because it's cheaper than GE. However, I'll be qualifying as a UA Platinum next month, which means they'll reimburse me for GE. Given that with NEXUS it appears I may have to drive up to the border (8 hours away) if I change states again (not out of the realm of possibility), should I maybe consider scrapping the whole NEXUS application and cancel my appointment (hate to throw my $50 away, but maybe it's for the best) and just going for plain-Jane GE, as it may be easier for me to manage? |

Although this won't save you money you could fly from PHL to BUF, often properly timed flights are quite inexpensive on US Airways, thus saving you some time. I'm not sure how far PHL is from where you are though. It does make it an awful lot easier to cross to Canada via land border at Niagara Falls; the Whirlpool bridge is Nexus only and there is rarely more than a minute or two wait if any. Sometimes you can wait an hour to cross into Canada on busy weekends via car; it is worse going into the US for some reason (can't imagine why). |

Generally if something has changed or updated you should just bring everything with you to the interview and explain it. While the rules are somewhat strict there's no real bearing on security associated with that change . . .

PHL is about two hours from me, although it's more convenient due to frequent Amtrak/SEPTA service. But with train connection delays, security, etc., it's only four or five more hours by car, and then I have a free car with me to get to the border. I like road trips, and I'm making my upcoming interview an opportunity to do a road trip to YYZ. I just don't know that I want to be forced to make a road trip if something changes. :\

You needn't come all the way to YYZ unless you'd like to do a tourist trip; there is an interview location on the US side in Niagara Falls NY, and you can go across the border to Canada right there on the Whirilpool bridge to get your iris scanned, or you can do it in one place on the Canadian side at Fort Erie.
For future updates, though, Niagara Falls and Lansdowne are about equidistant from me, but both are a not-terribly-convenient 6.5-hour drive. (Actually, that's better than I thought--I had "8 hours" stuck in my head, but that's the time to get to Champlain, NY. So the 6.5-hour drive actually compares almost favorably with the time and hassle involved in getting to PHL and flying up.) |

Yes, but they are all filled up until November/December. The only appointment available in October was at Lansdowne, so I'm headed there and will then spend a couple days in the Toronto region before heading back south.

Applied: July 24th
Conditional Approval: August 24th Interview Date: September 3rd (In Blaine, WA) Card Received: September 10th I'm from the YYZ area and when I got my conditional approval, there were no appointments available till December 26th! I chose an alternative date in Ft. Erie for the 25th of October and when an earlier one came in for Blaine, WA, I snagged it as fast as I could. I just happened to be in the area and the appointment was at a convenient time. I got asked plenty on why I was so far away form home for a NEXUS appointment but either than that, it was pretty smooth. I got my irises done a day after the approval at YVR with no interview scheduled. |

I applied for NEXUS on August 20 and received my conditional approval today, September 11. I'm based in Chicago and will be interviewing in Detroit on October 11, as YYZ, YUL, and YOW were all hopelessly booked up (next slot in January). Sault Ste. Marie had interview slots open as soon as Thursday!

I applied for NEXUS renewal on 8/24 and it still shows "Pending Review" as of 9/11.
I read somewhere saying if all information is exact the same since I applied for NEXUS first time, an interview is not required. I updated my US green card and driver license expiration date at GOES site because both expired a couple years ago. Also, I deleted my vehicle information when I applied for the renewal because I don't have my car anymore. Does that mean I have to get an interview again? I'm hoping I don't need to go to Canada just for the interview... Another question is iris scan. Since they already have mine is it still required? I don't really use NEXUS but it's very handy when I need to go through Canadian immigration just for transfer, and a big plus is Global Entry. I use GE very often. |
