Newbie here, so I apologize if this is the wrong forum to ask this. Does anyone know if there is a special line at security into the US preclearance for Nexus/GE people? I mean, can I bypass the long and slow security check line before the passport control?

Renewal timeline
For those who are interested, I submitted my renewal application on March 4th and received an approval today, 23 days later.
From what I can gather from the letter, it looks like I'll be receiving a new NEXUS card and I've been renewed without needing an interview. |
Finished my interviews with my +1 today, both in Edmonton. Got both iris and fingerprints done, we are both enrolled in GE and the US guy let us know. I wasn't even asked any questions at all, didn't even ask to confirm anything. Went straight to Iris-Photo-fingerprints.
My +1 on the other hand got questioned, asked how she can afford to travel and why she wants nexus(She's a student), etc. Very nice guys out in Edmonton, both CATSA and the US guys! And yes, we both got our approval letters before we even got to the car! Very happy, going to save so much time can't believe I just started on this now..... |

Good to know! Quick question - were you able/allowed to use Nexus/GE during those 23 days? I'm trying to time when I should apply for the renewal.
Thanks! Maybe someone else is in a better position to share their experience. |

I didn't have the need to use NEXUS during the renewal period, but I doubt I'd have had any trouble. I noticed that my expiry date in GOES changed from a 2014 date to a 2019 date, so it looks like a simple extension.

Your original card expires in 2014 and you've already renewed? Now that's early.

Finally got conditionally approved, but my interview is not until AUGUST!! (IN YEG). Any suggestions for strategy on moving up interview date?

I had an original date of mid July when I got my approval on March 20 at YYZ. I checked about 8-10 times a day for 2 days and on March 22 I got an interview for March 26. So cancellations do happen, you just need to be checking. |
1. Is NEXUS being phased out soon?
Just went through pre-clearance at Toronto - Theres like 20 Global Entry kiosks and only 2 Nexus kiosks, of which only one is working - As I handed in my blue customs card with the NEXUS 'V-PG" card, the US CBP guy told me to stop using NEXUS and use global entry casually as I was entering in - without any further explanation. I know I can use Global Entry if I wanted to as they took my fingerprints, they enrolled me and I have the CBP sticket in my passport. I use a foreign passport (not Canadian) and Im a permanent resident in Canada. I've never had issues using NEXUS so thus not to keen to switch to Global Entry. Plus, I like leaving my passport in my bag in the passport pouch without having to take it out. Its nice to have a driver license sized card. =) 2. I am in the US on a work-visa status (i.e. I-94 with L1 Work Visa valid for 3 years), would there be any problems using Global Entry? With a foreign passport? (not Canadian) Cheers, |
