The fingerprint reader is indeed finicky. Early on, it took a few times for me to get it right. Even a couple times recently, but it at least it now asks me if I wanted to try again before giving me the big X.

Really? When did this happen? :(

I wish I had done that when my mom asked me to bring holy water to Michigan for my uncle... CBP looked at me suspiciously and I told them "Pour it out for all I care." All that for a small vial of water!! Got let in after three people looked at it (land border crossing) Didn't have any problems bringing back (and declaring) sand from Turks & Caicos though :)

Tim's has been using frozen crap for almost a decade. You can read more here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle4189637/

The donuts all taste awful now. The only decent donuts left (other than beignets in New Orleans (and I've ve searched far and wide) are at some bakery in Saskatoon called Nutana which makes incredible donuts, but I'd rather have a nose on my a$$ than to ever go back to Saskatchewan so I guess it's mediocre donuts for tedgrrrrr.

Arrived at YVR from ICN this morning, used Nexus, and my number came up for customs secondary.

No clue what on the card indicated I had to go to secondary - The CBSA guy almost missed it - I was almost out the door when he said "Wait up a minute, go in there."

Customs guy asked me a few questions about where I'd been, what I was doing in Korea, what I'd brought back, checked the computer record on me for about 3 minutes, then sent me on my way. Non-confrontational from start to finish.

Didn't have me open my bags.

So I mentioned you were using three r's when your name has four, and now you're using five. Are you just screwing with me?

When entering Canada, the receipt the Nexus machine prints out has 3 numbers on it (and for those without Nexus going through regular lane, officer writes the numbers across the customs card). This is essentially a code indicating if you can go through or are supposed to be sent to secondary. As far as I can tell, the numbers constantly change. US-bound, the receipts print up letters indicating this, though these tend to be consistent. For GE, the receipts print a big X if you are going to be sent to secondary.

I was in Cuba once with a friend, and we met two women who had purchased the same vacation package as us. It turned out they both worked for CBSA.

After our flight back, my friend and I noticed we had different codes on our cards while we were waiting for luggage, so we asked them about it. One of them looked at mine, and said "don't worry". Then they looked at my friend's, looked at each other, looked back at us, said "uhhhh...don't worry". My friend got sent to secondary :p

I'm pretty sure there's an "easy" way to decode what the codes mean, but it appears to be a well kept secret :)

My children are approved for Global Entry and have the CBP sticker on their passports. Their photos were taken, but their fingerprints were not (agent said children do not need fingerprints done). How do they use the GE kiosks? Is scanning their passports enough, and they are identified as children, so they skip the fingerprint step? I thought I read a post earlier that their children had fingerprints done? Please share your experience and steps for children using the GE machines. They did get their irises scanned for Nexus, but with YYZ replacing their nexus machines with GE when entering the US, we will have to use GE! Thanks in advance!

The whole family would use the special services or crew line if fingerprints were not taken. Our children (three and five years old at the time) were fingerprinted, but the system didn't accept their prints. The CBP officer said it's common that their system won't accept the kids' prints. In a couple years when we get their irises scanned for Nexus, we'll try their fingerprints again.

Here is what my account on the goes web site says about nexus cards and GI kiosks:

Global Entry Benefit: As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message.

Someone a few posts earlier suggested that a nexus card can be used, instead of a passport. However, the statement displayed on account with the web site says otherwise.

I posted that info a few weeks ago as the CPB officer used our Nexus cards instead of our passports at the GE kiosks in Pearson T1. He was showing my 9 and 7 year old daughters how to use the machines after he had scanned their passports to double check if their prints were captured.

You will have to use the special services counter like a previous poster said. My two daughters 7 and 9 were able to get their prints done for GE but my 3 year old son was obviously is too young.

I am confused - what do you mean when you say the CBP officer was using nexus? Did he/she say that you yourself can use the nexus cards, instead of your passport, at any GE machines- whether at Canadian or at US airports?

Does you account on the goes web site have the statement or not, that nexus cards can not be used at the goes web site?

The CPB officer took my girls Nexus cards and used them on the GE machines and the system worked just fine. He said it was ok. But who knows the next officer might interpret the rules differently. I was just surprised that the cards even worked to begin with. I thought it was a passport only system. I would have never in a million years tried using my Nexus card as I thought the machine only read passports.....

I suspect that the machines have been upgraded to accept the cards and they have not yet publicly announced the change. It wouldn't be the first time that one half of the government doesn't know what the other half is doing..,

In which part of the GE machine the officer did insert the card in and the machine read it?

Are you sure it was a GE kiosk not a NEXUS kiosk or an updated GE kiosk?
