Nothing really out of the ordinary based on others' experiences shared in this thread, except for one thing. When asked by the US agent why she wanted Nexus, she answered "because my husband has it and is fed up of waiting in lines when we travel together." That prompted the officer to ask her to write my name down and be proceeded to look through my file. He never mentioned anything else about it, just moved on. Thought that was interesting and out of the ordinary from what I've read.

Maybe you'll get a 5% referral commission on your next renewal ;)

Just wondering what the wait times are these days from application to pre-approval, and pre-approval to interview in the YYZ area.
We are travelling in July with mother-in-law. She is the only one without nexus. If we apply now, will she get it in time?
(Will the U.S. budget cuts affect processing times?)

Never in a million years.
Actually, there are a few examples of people getting their conditional approval in 4-6 weeks and then snagging a cancellation within days, but my money's on "no".
I applied for my daughter in mid March and her interview is not until mid-late June.

Do you mind me asking how long from mid March application, until conditional approval? I know scheduling interview dates can be difficult. We are willing to travel to Niagara, or Fort Erie too, but until conditional approval, I can't even start looking. Are approvals really being given in 4-6 weeks now? I think I waited more like 8-10 a few years ago. I had heard they were faster now, and was hoping to confirm this with recent applicants.

Hers was 31 elapsed days exactly (Mar 15 to Apr 15). Booked Fort Erie June 18, the earliest of the 3 (YYZ, NF, Ft.E). Today there was a noonish midweek cancellation at Ft.E and one late May, but I can't take her to those. NF is booking July and YYZ in August.

NEXUS cardholder with non-nexus family member through CATSA nexus security lane?

Obviously, if one is a nexus cardholder and if one is accompanied by a companion who is not a nexus cardholder, then the 2 of them must go through the non-nexus lane, if crossing the border by air or by land.

The question is whether one is allowed to do so by going through the nexus CATSA security lane at Canadian airports?

The answer (no) is right on CATSA's web page.

I've been threatened with the loss of my Nexus privileges by a CATSA agent manning the Nexus lane when I tried using it with my non-Nexus wife. Couldn't tell if he was joking or not, but decided not to chance it since the regular line wasn't all that long. I couldn't understand how they'd have the power to revoke my Nexus, especially considering the Nexus "lane" is nothing more than a shortcut to the front of the regular security lane, but I didn't want to find out the hard way.

It's no joke, you can't take a non nexus person with you through the Nexus lane, air, land or boat. It's very clear in the rules. I am going to assume you are just kidding...

The NEXUS security lane is a far cry from the NEXUS immigration lanes. Considering how casually they treat admission to the NEXUS security line, it is not unreasonable to inquire as to whether a traveling companion can join you in the line.

Put our applications in March 2nd, conditional approval exactly 1 month on April 2 and was able to get interview time at YYZ April 6 (Saturday) for both of us. Received our cards on April 15th in the mail.
Guess we had a lucky draw...........

Two more sample points

I applied on Feb 23, conditionally approved on March 11, interviewed on March 19, card received on March 27.

My wife applied on Feb 23, conditionally approved on March 11, interviewed on March 25, card received on April 4.

Interviews were at Ottawa. Checking open slots almost every hour.

Exactly. Wiki, you should've read my post more carefully; I wasn't talking about a border crossing.

In my opinion, as everyone ends up in the Nexus line when it's not busy, it shouldn't have been a big deal to use the priority lane. Just like any top tierer can bring a traveling companion into the priority security lane or take advantage of priority boarding.

That's the secret. My wife snagged an interview at the end of July once she received her conditional approval letter last month. By checking GOES many times per day, she managed to find a vacant spot this past Monday in YUL, shortening the entire process by 3 months.

IME it's possible to go through the whole Nexus process in as little as a couple of months, but it takes a lot of work.

Thanks to all...
Maybe we will get lucky.
