Are the odds good that you can explain the verbal approval, show your due diligence by having GOES changes already complete? Sure. Anecdotal evidence is that you might get a finger wagging. But I keep thinking two words: zero tolerance. (Oh, and the words cranky, power tripping and bored... not sure how those relate :o )

Guess I'll have to stop by a NEXUS office then

My experience:

I updated my new passport info on GOES a year ago, used Nexus regularly and had no problems. After reading here that I maybe should have gone to a Nexus office, I stopped by the YVR office during a connection (about 3 weeks ago) and asked. Yes, I was told, you must have the new passport seen by Nexus and GOES "only does the US side". So the agent at reception updated it, said I was not the only one who was confused, but noticed that my driver's license was about to expire.

All I had at that point was a temporary license awaiting the new one in the mail. I said I would do the update when I had it. So this week, I duly stopped at the same office to update the driver's license. No, I was told, as of 2 weeks ago, you no longer need to update your driver's license.

Does anyone else know if this is accurate?

Hi everybody,

I have a couple questions about the Nexus program.
I applied couple days ago via Goes online and was wondering what is the timeline these days when you apply on the goes website directly ?
Is it faster than sending the application to Niagara ?

Thank you.

Anywhere between a few days to a few weeks.
Timelines are generally the same between in person and via the web.

Thanks for your answer Jason.

If i understood everything correctly the Global entry program is included with Nexus ?

Yes. You will have your prints taken at the interview, and you will walk out eligible to use both NEXUS and GE.

I used Global entry at EWR a few days ago and it was easy and quick, do not need the form you fill out on the plane.

The other day at YYZ they finally changed the transborder system and GE machine are where the Nexus machines were and it was fast and easy.

Huh? The GE machines have been right beside the NEXUS machines in YYZ for as long as I've been using them.

I have only been incoming from US twice since getting mine, but always used GE to pre-clear leaving but only NEXUS machines coming back. Because of my problem not hearing the NEXUS iris machine yak yak yak, I hugely prefer the GE machine so I was looking for them. Travelling again next week and will definitely look harder!

A few replies going back to Dec/12 (starting #5710)

red light means Nexus users only... counter-intuitive?! I think so! Most border agents agree!
It's counter-intuitive for us (but we're motivated to learn) but it's the most intuitive flag for non-users: do not enter! One thing I don't understand is why it closes at midnight (I-87/A-15), considering the agent "manning" the lane does double duty with the first regular lane (unlike the Americans, where the Nexus lane agent is only a Nexus agent).

Going back to Canada NEXUS users get to use the left shoulder of I-89 from about 800m before the inspection booths. Last thanksgiving weekend, CBSA quoted wait was 2.5 hours, actual NEXUS wait was about 15-20 minutes.
The biggest benefit I've had was a couple of years ago (before the reconstruction was complete) when we had to wait about 20min to get to the northbound Nexus entrance on I-87. We then passed approximately 60 car-equivalents (counting a motor home or boat as a car) which we figured represented 120min at a conservative 2min/vehicle. :)

I was also once told that updating in GOES, which is a US system, does not update the Canadian "side." How much truth there is to that, I don't know, but its what I was once told.
A few years ago, the Nexus website (nexus.gc.ca) was unambiguous that for a new passport you only had to enter it on GOES. Not trusting that, I actually called the Nexus office at YUL and a human told me there was no need to come in with the passport as long as I entered it in GOES.

I could see the new passport info in GOES. Later I called one of the Nexus Canadian 800 numbers for something, and she told me there was no record of my new passport in their system. We ended up going to a Nexus office when we got home and grovelled that we hadn't taken the passport in right away.

I too wish that passports could somehow be a plastic card you can easily keep in your wallet, but they aren't.
The Americans have one but it's effectively an EDL (since most states probably aren't going to bother issuing those) -- not valid at air crossings.

has anyone been taken in for secondary inspection from the nexus lane and have them say the supervisor will decide on whether or not to revoke your nexus?
Some friends flew in to YUL (possibly from Europe) and hit the "over our limit" button the machine, expecting to be sent to secondary (that was my understanding and in fact I did it one month at YYZ, paying the requisite GST+PST [at the time]). The agent sent them to secondary and threatened to pull their Nexus status because they were supposed to use the regular lines when over their limit. The fact the machine allowed for it didn't seem significant to her.

They did of course escape with their Nexus cards intact, but it shows the level of ignorance that's out there.

I called the Nexus office at YYC airport to enquire if I had to have the [passport] physically verified by border agents for either Nexus or Global Entry, or for entry into US/CANADA, vice versa (my flight is tomorrow morning at 07:25 so the Nexus office will not be open yet).

I repeated the question a full FOUR times to the agent on the phone, and she told me repeatedly that the only thing that was needed was to update the passport information on GOES, and that it would not be necessary to have the document visually or manually verified at the Nexus office.

I went on to ask again, saying that I would make a special trip to the airport today since my flight was before the Nexus office opened, to which she re-iterated that it was not necessary and that if I failed to simply update the passport information on GOES and instead came to the Nexus office (without doing any online update) it might cause the Global Entry system not to recognize me in the morning.
This seems reasonable, that it's necessary to update in GOES irrespective of any physical update at a Nexus office.

My plan (unless someone here gives me good reason to do otherwise) in the morning, is simply to attempt to use Global Entry at Pre-Clearance the way I always do, and if I get flagged for secondary, I will explain what has transpired and see what happens.
I'm curious how this turned out, though I assume that if you updated in GOES, the Americans would let you in, whether you'd been to a Nexus office or not.

=aw

There is no GE for entering Canada, sorry if I confused you :p

It's a US program, and can only be used for entering the US.

Makes sense! I guess I was actually confused by HerpaYvr remarking they'd finally put in GE at YYZ, then, because the GE has been in the YYZ transborder ever since I'd paid any attention to it. So, no joy for me avoiding the iris games on the way home :-)

Not sure this has been answerd before. So apologize if so. Anyway how do I get a Nexus Card for my 2 month old Daughter? When I go to fill up the App she doesn't have a drivers licence (LOL) and very few others points. Should I go to Nexus office in YYZ? Has anybody else done this for there infant Son or Daughter?

BTDT, last year for our 6 week old. You just fill it out as best you can.

The driver's license section isn't a requirement; you'll use her birth certificate and passport as the ID. Previous travel is blank. Employment is 'child' or 'student'. No previous addresses. Etc... They've seen countless infant applications, so they know much of it doesn't apply.
