Its my first time adding my advance passenger Info. for an AC reservation in a long time (I usually book UA), and its the first time I realized I can put Nexus info. in. However, the site refers to the number to put in as a "Nexus number" - the image in the example points to bigger numbers in the middle of the card - but believe on both my wife and my card, its referring to the 9 digit number on the right side (vertically - about midway down). However, everytime I've needed a number referring to my membership, its always been the PassID used.
Anyone know which is proper to put in there? To be safe, I just entered in my passport info. instead, but was curious for the future what should be used. However, do NOT enter your NEXUS number in the advanced info. If you do, you will not be able to OLCI. You can safely enter your NEXUS information during OLCI, but not before. |

You can input the Trusted Traveller (NEXUS) number in advance of travelling. You just can't input it in advance of OLCI. You can do parts of OLCI, like revise your seat number, but not complete OLCI. As I posted a couple pages back, when I removed the NEXUS number from my flight pass booking, saved, and opened OLCI, my NEXUS number was visible already and I hadn't input to OLCI. To me, that seems that the bug is because its next move in OLCI is to ask for NEXUS or passport number but the field is already full so it can't. |

Data point
Getting boarding pass at MSY, presented NEXUS, AC agent refused it. "We don't take NEXUS - you need your passport". Okay fine. Got to TSA/Security, handed both alongside BP, agent took NEXUS and BP and left the passport in my hand. Same AC person was at the boarding gate, so put NEXUS back in pocket to start with, and only presented passport. YYZ NEXUS machines actually worked for me on nearly the first try. Getting better at the iris thing.:-) |
Will be in SAN for a few days and may wander across the border to Tijuana.
Does my NEXUS membership (I have the card with me, if it helps) do anything for re-entry in the US using SENTRI? How about for going into Mexico? Or am I stuck using the normal lanes? |
thought you needed to register your car (which involves a certification/inspection)for coming back from Mexico so I don't think this will work but others may have differing opinions/experience.

I applied Jan. 22. Conditional approval Feb. 14. Have my interview scheduled for next week Feb. 21. Both mine and husbands. Pretty quick for Nexus. The key is to take an interview appt, and then keep checking as I have changed probably 10 times as cancellations came up.
I will do what you said for the interview ^ Thanks for the infos |
From Mexico by Car into US
From Wiki:
"U.S.–Mexico Border NEXUS members who are citizens of the United States may utilize SENTRI lanes when entering the US from Mexico by land, but must be traveling in an approved, registered vehicle[5] (SENTRI requires members to register their vehicles into the program, which involves a thorough inspection by CBP, whereas NEXUS has no such requirement). Regardless of whether in an approved vehicle or not, the NEXUS card is a WHTI compliant document, and may be used in any standard lane from Mexico into the US as proof of identity and citizenship." |

For a GREAT shopping deal take the last US exit on I-5, and go to the Shops of Los Americas outlet mall (up against the border fence). Prices are so good (often Haggars for $12, Van Heusen shirts $7, etc.) that 80+% of the customers are Mexicans - just check the license plates on the cars parked there. We go regularly and fly to SAN with a suitcase inside a suitcase because we know we'll buy enough goodies there to fill the spare case...:) |

Watch your a$$ in TJ, it's not what it used to be. All the leather goods places have been converted to "pharmacies" that sell drugs to elderly Americans. And the crime is still bad.

Walking across is dead easy - you just pass through a turnstile, past some Federales who may or may not be lounging around, and you're in. You walk through an area with some modern stores with high-price not-very-local stuff, cross a bridge over a big flood control channel, and aim for the big archway and the world's biggest Mexican flag. That's at Avenida Revolucion, 10 minutes from the border at most.
Re safety: "Situational Awareness" is what you need; don't take shortcuts through alleys etc. Give yourself 30 minutes to clear CBP getting back into the US - and be aware they have microphones over the wait lines and drug-sniffing canines in the room. A bit intimidating but if you have your Cdn passport you should be good. If you don't have a car, the trolley stops with its nose right up against the border. If you do have a car, it's still worth walking over because you need to buy special insurance and most rental companies aren't happy about you taking their cars over. Besides parking on the Mexican side can be tough to find in the "busy" area (and you don't want to be in the "quiet" area...). There are several US-side parking lots up against the border fence with reasonable prices. Just west of there, same street, is the outlet mall. If you do a Google Earth of TJ this will make a lot more sense. |

And of course, since you're on foot, the vehicle inspection part of SENTRI does not apply. |
