NEXUS interview - children

Good afternoon everyone!
I'm sure that question has been asked (and answered) before but I'm new here and I don't know how to search the 7000+ posts.

My whole family (that is two adults and two children) applied for NEXUS membership. We live in Canada (in Montréal) and are Canadian citizens. We are all still "Pending Review".

When it will come to the interviews, how will it work?
I understand my interview is 100% independant from my spouse's interview; it doesn't have to be done the same day, let alone together.

But how does it work for the kids??

On the website, I've read:

Children under the age of 18 need the consent of a parent or legal guardian to enrol in NEXUS. At the interview, children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by at least one custodial parent or guardian. The parent or guardian needs documentary evidence of custody with no restrictions on removal from the custodial jurisdiction. The documents presented to the officer at the NEXUS enrolment centre have to establish that the adult or adults are the parents or legal guardians.
Now, I'd like to hear real experiences? What is the best way to do it? One parent is enough. But is it better if both parents are there? Or it doesn't make any difference whatsoever.

The website talks about documentary evidence of custody with no restrictions on removal from the custodial jurisdiction... what exactly does this mean? Like a birth certificate? Or is it more than that? It is a problem that those two birth certificates are in French?

And, talking about language, my kids (the oldest is 4 years old) do not speak English (yet)... will the CBP want to ask them questions directly?

Anyhow, if anybody has been through that procedure, I'd like to hear more about it!

Thanks.

Thanks.

It means a divorce decree or legal separation agreement that clearly outlines custody and gives permission for the custodial parent to travel with the child without the permission of the non-custodial parent. My wife is divorced, and we were unable to obtain Nexus cards for her minor children because her divorce decree did not allow her to travel with her children unrestricted.

Her ex wanted to approve every time they travelled with us, so the Nexus card was not possible for them. This is because Nexus theoretically bypassed any questions or requirement to provide proof of permission (we always had to carry a notarized letter), and we didn't have permanent permission.

I rented a car and drove from YYZ to Gatineau and back to retrieve degree. When I reapplied the next day, they never asked for original degree. I actually was then told that I need to move to the US in order to get TN. Sometimes I think they just make up the rules on the spot:mad:. Finally got my TN in YOW...

Now that you mention it, I think I also had a certified transcript that cost me $20, but I don't think they asked for it.

Thanks. But how can I prove that I am not divorced??! If I show up with kids only, without my spouse, they could assume anything regarding my marital situation, no? I guess the best way is for both parents to show up for their kid's interview, right?

Welcome to FT nataxa68. I took my daughter (age 17.75) to Fort Erie and just by a fluke of chance my husband/her father came along. Father's signature WAS required on a form when we got there. (We both had to sign it.) It is not a form that there is any forewarning about. If I recall correctly, it is something to the effect of "I approve of my child getting a NEXUS card."

Because of her age, she was interviewed outside our presence (although I am sure if I insisted on attending due to her being <18, they would have allowed it). I am sure parents accompany younger kids.

I did Nexus for my entire family including kids and I already had Nexus. If you are all attending interviews on the same day, there are no issues. You just need interviews at the same location on the same day, it is not reqd to have concurrent times. You can then get all get your interviews done at the same time, normally at the first interview time slot.
They did not ask my kids any questions and they were older than yours.
I believe the custody documentation is reqd for seperation/divorces. If both of you attend at the same time, they will not ask for anything.
You may need to provide a letter if only one parent is going to the interview - confirming that you allow the kids to apply for Nexus.

Having read here many accounts of Nexus members who have received their full approval minutes after finishing their interview, I was wondering if anyone has experienced delays between the interview and full approval.

I had my interview on 8/12/2013. Now it's 8/15/2013 and I haven't received an email. Everything in GOES is unchanged from before my interview and the status says "Interview Scheduled". Nothing about being approved.

I called the enrollment center today to ask if this is expected. The agent asked for my member ID and opened my online profile. They also asked how the interview went with the US agent. ("They just said thank you, you're all set.") After considering that, they said it's normal to have some delay between the interview and the full approval/letter/card reception.

Anyone had a similar experience?

NEXUS interview - children

Thank you vernonc, thank you flyquiet.
So I understand the key here is simply for both parents to be at their kids' interview.

Vernonc, you say that:

I've read that many times. Is this a rule, or more a "discretionary accommodation" that could be refused?

Otherwise, has anyone had problems with French-only documents (birth certificates, driver's licence, mariage certificate and so on) at YUL or Champlain?

Nat.

You can do separate interviews on different days but it is more painful. Since it is difficult to get all interview times one after the other on the same day, they allow you to book them all on the same day at different times but they will do them all together at the first interview time. This is not discretionary but a process that they follow and you will not be refused.

That's a long time.. I know when both me and the Mrs went within an hour we received an email saying everything was complete.

I also remember way way back there was someone who went with 3 people and 2/3 received approvals right away and didn't get the 3rd approval. From what I recall, they forgot to click something at the end of the interview.

Depending on how quickly you need the card, it should come about 7-10 days after the interview. You could try waiting until Wednesday and if you still haven't received the card call again.

Crossing via land to US - I have nexus; family does not

Hi all,

First post on FT :)

Question: Can NEXUS holders use the non-NEXUS line at the land border, when entering the US, without a passport?

Situation: I have to give my passport to an embassy for a visa application. In the mean time I need to visit the US. I have NEXUS and am planning to use the land border.
My wife will be travelling with me on a British passport, which means not only can I not use the NEXUS line, we will also be pulled over to do the visa waiver application for her.

Thanks for your help.

Yes. I have done this several times with no issues, both with non-nexus members and solo.

Yes, I have done this several times too. With mixed Nexus/non nexus and also with folks with visa. No problems at all.

I am pretty sure that if you have a conditional approval, that exact information can be seen inside the scheduling interface. I don't think we can see it now, but when you have an interview to schedule, you will see it reassuringly explained then inside the calendar.

Do we get access to Global entry in New Zealand? I read that on one of my feeds somewhere that there's new benefits in australia because you can now use that smart door thing as global entry?
