Nexus seems to expire on everyone's birthday, so far as I can tell. Mine expires on my birthday also (but not for a couple years thankfully).

Just a word of caution on the recommendation for 3 months - processing times seem to have increased recently. My NEXUS expires in November, so I was proactive and applied for renewal on June 6th - 5 months out. It is now 13 weeks+ since they took my money and accepted the request, and I have not received anything - my status on the GOES website remains "Pending Review". I called the hotline last week and was told that USCBP had approved it on their side on August 8th but it was still being processed by CBSA, and I should expect it to take another month or so.

My travel patterns are unremarkable and I have not experienced any issues using NEXUS, so did not anticipate any delays in renewing it.

Based on my experience, I would definitely start reapplying at the 5-6 month mark, especially if you might need to book an interview. On the positive side is that I have successfully used NEXUS multiple times while the application process is occurring, so their is no downside to applying relatively early.

Not sure if it has been posted anywhere on these 500 pages, but you can no longer use Nexus when connecting to the US from another flight at YVR when following the standard connection route. If you want to use Nexus, you need to ignore connection and go through the regular entrance. Could not get a good epxlanation of why US Customs introduced this enhancement.

Can you use GE when following that route?

I have activated both husbands and my Nexus card on GOES. Is there anyway to confirm that it in fact is activated?

Nexus and GE machines are side-by-side. If you want to use GE or Nexus at YVR you need to exit to the main hall and then enter the transborder area, instead of using the US connections "shortcut."

This isn't new. For at least a year, domestic to US connections at YVR have required talking to CBP if you follow the connection signs.

If you don't have checked luggage, it's so much easier to just exit the "secure" area. You have to go through security again either way.

Not that I know off till you use it. If you did it on GOES you should be good. If you are nervous, call any center to confirm.

Glad to meet someone with two husbands. I had only heard of men having multiple spouses, so delighted to see it works both ways. :p

Welcome to FT.

I want to apply for Nexus as a Canadian Citizen but a current permanent resident of the UK. From what I read on the Nexus website, this is now ok to do (since June 2012), correct?

I find a few errors in the application. First of all, first current home address there is no option other than US or Canada. This makes me question my assumption above.

It also asks me for a US Contact person who lives in the US...why do they need this? I don't have a contact in the US so I'm not so sure why they're asking me for this.

Thanks for the help!

seegs, are you using the online (GOES) application? You ARE allowed to apply for Nexus even though you're living elsewhere. I just checked and the paper application allows you to enter any country, so it could just be that you'll have to fill out a paper version. In any case, you'll have to send in your documents, so paper might be the best route.
Further, the paper version doesn't ask you for a contact person. They ask for one because it's part of their background check.

Also if you have any questions, give one of the local offices a call. I once had a question and called the Nexus/CBSA/CBP combined office at YUL and a real person picked up right away who was able to help.

Good luck!

Yes I am using the online GOES form. I filled in my current UK address but the drop down menu for Country only had "USA" and "Canada". I left it blank and was able to move on...do you think this is a bad idea and I should do the paper application?

I have a few US based friends that can be a contact so its not a major issue. I prefer to use the online application to speed things up.

Good idea on calling...might be the best option to get a definitive answer rather than risk a rejection due to not filling in the Country of my address.

The problem is they put the machines on the opposite side of the room and the entrance guard won't let you in unless the declaration form is filled out, even if you intend on using Global Entry.

When I entered on my last int'l>US connection, I just told the first inspector (who was in front of the inspection area) that I have GE and asked to use that, and he pointed out the machine location and let me walk over to use it. YMMV, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

What you could do it enter the area and just walk backwards and around the lines over to the machines.

Hopefully someone has some experience with this..

I applied for NEXUS and got conditional approval and scheduled my interview. However, when I applied for NEXUS, I only put down my Canadian passport and it slipped my mind that I have a UK Passport and HKID as well (Never use the UK passport since I got the Canadian one and haven't been back to HK since early 2000s).

Will this pose a problem to the application or will it be fine if I just bring it up at the interview?

For past employment and addresses, on the printed form, it says to attach an additional document if I need space. Can this be a word document I create myself or should I print an additional page of the application form completing the extra fields of the addresses and employment history?

As you know, the GOES system says if you make any errors, you cannot edit it and need to correct it at the interview. I would walk in with the other passports right in my hand to ensure they know you intend to correct the error, and so you don't forget to mention it. They likely do already know. They did ask me if I ever had any other passports and I said, well, the ones that expired before this one, but never from other countries. They also asked me if I had lived in the USA, which is an odd question unless they already knew that I had. I have nothing to hide, but it was outside the past-address date range and there were no other relevant questions, so I had not mentioned on the application.
