And now for something completely different: my TN is expiring in a couple of months, and I won't be renewing it. Is this something the NEXUS folks are interested in?

If so, can they be advised by phone or does it mean an office drop-in?

When I did my interview (boeing field seattle) I remember hearing that if you wanted to try to get an earlier interview time than the 9 months away that was next available, you could go down and wait until they had an opening. Eg someone doesn't show up and/or they get ahead of schedule. Is this still true? My gf's app just allowed her to schedule and june is the next available. She'll keep checking back for something earlier, but if it's possible to just go down and wait for a few hours, she can and will... though perhaps that has changed in the 3-4 years since i went through.

Normally the answer to that is no, but as always, there are stories of exceptions being made. As with just about everything else in this program, inconsistency and conflicting information is the name of the game.

FYI, the YYC airport has created a secondary temporary location to speed up processing times. There are now a few slots open in January.
I managed to snag one for this upcoming weekend! 4 week turnaround! Woot!Woot!

A few years ago, I had a US work visa and let it lapse when I moved back to Canada. When I signed in to GOES after the expiration date, it appeared as an expired document on my profile. Before my next trip, I went to the Nexus office at the airport to get the I-94 removed from my profile, and the CBP officer told me that I would have been sent to secondary if I hadn't stopped by.

So, yes, the Nexus/GE folks are interested in it.

Where are the Nexus cards mailed from? Being from Canada, will mine be mailed from a Canadian city?

I thought they were mailed from your interview location as mine was mailed from Detroit. However, I am from the US so it might only be true for Americans.

I interviewed at Lansdowne but mine was mailed from Champlain, IIRC.

Hello all, a general question - I read a few pages back, but this is an awfully long thread now - I have applied for Nexus and doubt I will be conditionally approved and interviewed by the time I have a trip to the US in early January, but just in case, I am curious if my "pending" status will make entry easier or more difficult on that trip?

And if somehow I am lucky enough to get through the steps in time, is there an option for expedited mailing of the card?

Pending/conditional approval status is exactly the same as a non-program participant in the eyes of the border agents at the time of crossing. They probably won't even know you applied, and if they know they won't care. You would use a regular lane and be cleared with the same process as a regular traveler.

Also no on card expedite. For what it's worth, once approved you will be able to use your passport in the Global Entry kiosks (at Pre-clearance leaving Canada or upon arrival in the US if coming from an airport without Pre-clearance) immediately, without waiting for the card.

Without a NEXUS card you wold have to use a regular lane for entry to Canada. Card typically takes about a week after approval to arrive.

Being conditionally approved won't make a bit of difference. There should be no need to expidite the card, you should get it a week or less after approval.

If you're traveling by air, you can use the Global Entry machines immediately after approval.

Thanks for the prompt responses!

The info about GE is interesting - that's where I may get the benefit. Expedited mailing might have been necessary (even with only a week to delivery) depending on how late I get approved and when I can get into an appt.

Of last 3 US/Canada crossing, 3 inspection, each 30 to 60 minutes long

Granted, Global Entry has benefitted me greatly, but still having difficult realizing the real benefit of NEXUS. This is my second 5 year term.

I travel alone, and on a weekend trip usually in conjunction with a mileage run. Not suspicious looking.

I don't buy or do anything remotely illegal or suspicious, other than the fact that I often travel great distance (like Toronto or buffalo from Seattle WA), just for a day border crossing.

Each of my last three border crossing visits, I've had to make myself available to custom for 30 to 60 minute interview.

#1 - Air travel into Toronto Canada. (overnight stay in Toronto from Seattle - I told them I was mileage running, not coming to any event, other than sight seeing and shopping - agent didn't seem to believe my mileage running intent) 30 minute interview in a separate section.

#2 - Car travel into US (from an weekend overnight stay in Vancouver BC) Drove my car, bought nothing in Canada other than pocky snacks, pie and soda I was consuming) 40 minute car inspection.

#3 - Car (Rental car) entry back into US (return from an overnight night life in Toronto Canada, and shopping, sight seeing) Told them I arrived from Seattle to Buffalo one day earlier, and coming back to buffalo for my return flight home to seattle. Nexus lane agent directs me to custom and 1 hour interview in confined/locked area. They search my car while in my confinement (and really, nothing in my car other than a backpack).

I know there are non-law abiding people out there, but I do consider myself, zero risk, proud owner of NEXUS and yet, I still get inspection (3 of last 3 trips). Is NEXUS really not meant for infrequent travelers?

I'm beginning to think, each of my Canada/US border crossing, I'm a viewed as a threat despite my past SPOTLESS record. Grr.

Interviewed at YUL on Nov 29; cards received today, mailed from Champlain, NY.

Now, only 3 of the 4 cards were received. And there is no way to tell whether they were all indeed mailed. The website just says 'approved, but you cannot use NEXUS until cards are received and activated', for all 4.

Anyhow, the only friend I know personally that got a NEXUS also went through the same thing: got his and his wife's cards mid last month and has yet to receive his son's.

Is that a normal thing to happen? Is this the norm for mailing cards for all family members? C'mon...

All of the accounts changed to Approval status online in GOES?
Then all the cards should've mailed

My infant's interview was done same day as mom, but didn't change to Approval status, until I called in and left a voicemail, then 1-2 days later it changed to Approval, then the card came in 7-10 days later

Yep. All accounts show 'Status: Approved'.

I will give it a few days, for the 4th card to arrive, before calling them. Maybe it was a post office screw-up, not CBP' fault.

I know my friend, who's still waiting for his son's card, called in and they said they could not do pretty much anything until x amount of days have elapsed before declaring lost/undelivered. Only then they'd issue and mail a 2nd card.
