For renewal, do you need to go to interview? Or will they just send a new card? If interview, do you need to go to both the US and Canadian offices?
|
Many NEXUS members, including me, have been specifically told that GOES doesn't update the Canadian system and therefore passport renewals require you to go to a NEXUS enrollment center to update. In theory, the Canadian government could have a system that updates NEXUS when a Canadian renews their passport; in practice, I wouldn't assume that were the case. (It's certainly not the case for US passport renewals, which is why I made a trip to the Seattle UEC recently.)

CBP and CBSA work side-by-side, so you can meet with both in the same office. |

If you have GE through NEXUS, then no, I don't think so. If you cancel your NEXUS membership, I'm sure GE disappears along with it.
If you have GE separately (i.e. you've paid the $50 NEXUS enrollment fee and the $100 GE enrollment fee), then sure, why not? Definitely, if your Nexus membership expires and that's how you have your GE, then those privileges will go away when your NEXUS does. In fact, I was just on the GOES site a couple of hours ago to update something, and noticed the GE message still on the bottom, which basically says GE is valid as long as your NEXUS membership is. Also, there is very specific language that valid NEXUS members get GE privileges, and IME, is purposefully worded that way to distinguish that NEXUS members are not GE members. Different, AFAIK, then for example, other reciprocal GE partners that do get a membership. As for if you are separately enrolled in GE, I suspect that would survive if you let your NEXUS lapse.

Flew to YYZ today. Only 2 out of the 8(?) new machines were working. One machine was half-working. It was faster to go thru normal processing.
I wish on the webpage they would make the office location clearer (or correct)... I found it by accident while wandering the departures level in T1. Walked in, got called up 5 minutes later to add my iris, and was out in no time. Enough time to run back to T3 and check in for my return flight. |
Dual Citizen Nexus Problems
Anyone else have this problem? I have dual citizenship (Canada / U.S.) and a Nexus Card. I do a lot of work in the U.S. which I why I got th eNexus card in the first place. The people at the Nexus Card office told me to fly to the U.S. on my U.S. passport and to fly to Canada on my Canadian passport. But now, when I try to check in online for my RETURN flight, I am not able to do so. So, I asked again at the Nexus office and they said, since Canadian CBPS does not use airline information to verify identity, if i fly back and forth on my U.S. passport (since the U.S. compares flight data and passport information) it should clear up this problem, but it hasn't.
Anyone have any advice on how to clear this up? Thanks. |

Anyone have any advice on how to clear this up? Thanks. When I book a flight and fill in the advanced passenger information, I put my Canadian passport information in. I use this when checking with the airline as well (Canadian passport that is). The only time I use my US passport is either at the Global Entry kiosk or if I'm not using GE, I give the CBP officer my US passport. EVERYTHING else I use my Canadian passport. Never had an issue providing one passport to the airline and a different one to customs/immigration. |

What exactly is the issue? I'm in the exact same situation, but I've never had a problem..

I generally use my US passport with both APIS with the airline and when entering most other countries other than Canada. If I need to show my passport entering Canada, I do tend to show my Canadian, but that is rare, since unless I'm sent to secondary, etc. I never need to show one. The reason I use my US passport usually, because as a US citizen, it is either required or highly advised (depending on who you talk to) to enter the US with your US credentials, but Canada doesn't really care (in fact, this weekend, had to enter on my US passport as i was coming in, and had my Canadian passport renewed but it wasn't with me as I needed to pick it up). Also, as a dual-citizen, GE machines require you to use your US passport, probably because of above. And lastly, believe if you use a non-US passport and enter the US, the airline is supposed to collect your address info. in the US, etc. and can possibly also give you a hard time if you don't have a return and are presumably entering on foreign documentation. i.e., its just easier. |
I am very confused by a sign I saw yesterday at YYZ T1 by the NEXUS machines.
It said something to the effect of if you are arriving from a flight from SFO or LAX, and you had checked luggage, if you were using the NEXUS machines you had to show your NEXUS slip to an agent before exiting the customs hall. I'm unclear a) why you would need to show the slip to someone regarding your luggage, and b) why it is only for flights from SFO and LAX. Anyone have any idea? |
I have a question regarding my NEXUS interview in Blaine in January. I'm coming from the Seattle area for the interview. If I'm approved, I assume that I can get in the Nexus vehicle lane if I wanted to go to Vancouver after my interview. Is this correct?

YYZ T1 is loaded with the new machines. I was in and out of customs and security within 10 mins.

I have a question about the airline codes/names when using the GE machines. I used one at YYZ and they didn't use "AC", it was RC?. I hit no and right away I got the X and had to goto secondary. No issues, few questions and I was on my way.
Is the airline codes not standard across the board? If not, does it really matter as long as the flight number is correct? |

Is the airline codes not standard across the board? If not, does it really matter as long as the flight number is correct? That screen is actually just buggy. If you are connecting on a domestic US flight after flying transborder, it will have the transborder airline/flight #, but the final destination. So for example, if I'm flying UA YYZ-ORD-CVG, it will list the flight info. to ORD, but list CVG as that flight's destination. I just always hit yes. |
