Had to fly back to Ottawa, find my lost passport, and then return - hard justifying those additional flights to my employer.

How long ago did that happen? Was it before or after the NEXUS card was declared a suitable alternative to a passport for air travel? That change was fairly recent.

A friend who got nexus went to the interview with the newborn's passport, but confirmed with the officers at YVR that a birth certificate is sufficient for the initial application, just means no flying cross border until they get a passport. Saves a few weeks after birth if they don't need to wait for passport first

Not accurate. I have shown Nexus only at AC check-in counter. No issues.

Sounds like things are clear as mud. As I figured.

I'm going to leave the info blank on the Westjet site, and when we get there, present the Nexus cards and see what happens. We'll definitely have our passports with us, so we can pull them out if we need to.

I won't presume that we can get away with just Nexus as ID anywhere, but out of curiosity, I'm going to try using it as our primary ID wherever we can. I know that we managed to show our Nexus cards instead of passports at the BUF security check last trip without any questions asked.

Just flew into YTZ. Two newly upgraded Nexus machines are there now.

Two people ahead of me in line didn't have their cards with them (which the new machines require) and had to switch to the regular line. I hope the people at the desk gave them a scolding for trying to use the kiosk without the card in hand.

It was a smooth experience for me –.got a clean iris picture on the first try, it took a couple of seconds of processing time, and I was on my way.

Also, there are a couple of new questions about Ebola –.have you travelled to West Africa, and have you come into contact with anyone who might have been exposed.

Quite accurate, for me, specifically at YOW. Perhaps not everyone's experience, but doesn't remove the accuracy.

That was 2010, loooong time ago :)

I'm still asked for my passport at the YYZ T1 Transborder pre-clearance entry (using the transfer entry, not main entry). When I asked about that need, I was told it was the same reason you are asked to scan your passport in the new global entry machines - you must have your passport on you for travel.

I asked further (once) and was told that although the NEXUS card is now accepted as proof of ID, the terms of our program agreement still state that an officer can demand a passport to review our travel outside of the US, at any time.

Other than that, I simply hand over my passport. Who really wants to question/push an agent with the authority to detain or shoot you for any reason? :)

Hello again. Just wondering if it's easier to book an appointment, and then switch if an earlier time comes up, or to wait on booking and keep checking for a time that I want? The first available appointment for YYC is not until March! I need to book 4 appointments, so I'm just trying to decide if I book for March, and then keep checking, hoping to switch? Is it difficult to switch appointment times?

Thank you!

Check again today, many open days and multiple appointment times beginning November 12th at YYC.

Whether or not the machine requires the cards, these folks were in violation as its required to have a NEXUS card with you when you use it. This is easily grounds for officers to take away their NEXUS completely.

I've been scouring the internet for hours and can't seem to find a solution, hopefully someone here can help me.

I'm a Canadian citizen living in Australia and am trying to apply for the NEXUS program and I run into an issue when it comes to current residential address. The drop down box will only let me choose Canada or USA and if I leave it blank I can't submit my application. does anyone have any ideas on how I can get past this other than by mailing in my application?

Still hoping someone knows the answer to this:

Can you give up Nexus and still be enrolled in GE ?????

For that matter, can you even somehow 'exit' Nexus, if you are ineligible? I moved out of the US (though have a "permanent" address there as am still a citizen). I think that makes me ineligible. And in any case I cannot update any documents in person as I cannot visit any of the Nexus offices (unless I learn to walk or drive across an ocean!).

Help, anyone??

You need to be a resident of Canada or USA. Nexus is meant for cross boarder trusted travellers. It's not designed for citizens who live overseas.

That seems to have changed:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...admis-eng.html
"Effective June 30, 2012, Canadian and American citizens living outside of Canada or the United States or who have recently returned to either country and have not previously been able to meet the three-year residency requirement are now eligible to apply." (emphasis added)

That says that applicants have to have returned to either Canada or the USA. The OP says he isn't living in either of them now, and so is not eligible.

I thought the same thing when I first read it, but re-read it..
