You need to be a resident of Canada or USA. Nexus is meant for cross boarder trusted travellers. It's not designed for citizens who live overseas.

That says that applicants have to have returned to either Canada or the USA. The OP says he isn't living in either of them now, and so is not eligible.

I ended up ringing the number given on the GOES site and they didn't question the fact that I don't live in the US or Canada nor the fact that I don't currently have a mailing address in the US or Canada. According the person I spoke to on the phone I should be eligible for NEXUS. They just emphasised that I needed a mailing address in the US or Canada as they cannot send the NEXUS cards outside these two countries. Funny enough the website allowed me to list my Australian address as my mailing address.

Anyone flown into YTZ from the US recently? I'm curious if they've added the new machines and if so how many they have now. They were supposed to have added a second one a year or two ago, but every time I've passed through there was only ever one. Hoping they have a backup or that the new machines are more reliable.

I just passed through YTZ two weeks ago. There are now two upgraded Nexus machines there –.the ones where you need to insert your card first.

Thanks so much!

We entered at YVR a few days ago and used the new machines for the first time. One of the set was malfunctioning, not a great sign but better than some previous experiences at YVR, and all of the others seemed to work fine with people moving efficiently.

As seniors we worry about leaving things behind (with good reason :o) and since you place the card in a fairly loose tray (almost like a subway or theater ticket counter) and the machine doesn't spit it out at the end like an ATM does, we'll have to remind ourselves to grab it at the end of the transaction.

Probably not an issue to most but definitely for us when fatigued after flying HKG-YVR. ;)

Everybody in the car must have nexus

The guy in front of me last week who did exactly what you wanted to do got an orange slip for secondary inspection and probably got his card revoked

We did this as recently as yesterday and held up our cards to the reader in a regular lane. I presume (not sure) it gives the agent a head-start on identifying everybody in the car.

I gather if you have a NEXUS card that's the card to use, even when using a non-NEXUS lane. We've done it a number of times with relatives and visitors without a problem.

crimsona, aren't you referring to a NEXUS lane? The previous poster is discussing its use in a non-NEXUS lane.

Understood - I'm referring to a regular lane as a non-NEXUS lane.

NEXUS cards are accepted in all lanes at all POEs in the US and Canada and US and Canadian citizens can enter either country by land or sea on the NEXUS card alone.

Sorry my mistake

There's a nexus reader on regular lanes, I usually just wave those first while the car in front is at the counter

The Wifey and I just submitted our applications for the Nexus pass. Any idea how long it currently takes to get an interview at the Calgary location?

Milkman670 Nov 2, 2014 5:35 pm

I applied Oct 10th still pending review today Nov 2nd, I've heard a long wait for interview at yyc.
