Thanks. I'm aware of their posted operating hours. However if you try to schedule an appointment, you'll see that there are many days where there are none. And I don't mean that there are no appointment times available...I mean there are no appointment times listed. This is true for all of April and May. Appointments show up again in June.
Good to know, thanks! |
I am considering a Nexus card. Looking at the application it requires other names used and documentation for it. I have used an abbreviated First Name for ever on all my documents. Do I put the name at birth and if so, how do I document that "change". I have not looked at the online application requirements, what format of attachments do they require, scan into PDF is enough? If mailed they do not ask for email so therefore the approval and all correspondence will be via post? For multiple marriage name changes, all names to be shown and what documents supporting this is needed.

Best $50 I ever spent. I don't know why I ever hesitated to get NEXUS.
The online process is so much easier. We often see posts in this thread from those who used the paper form wondering what their status is because, yes, it appears the entire process must be postal. The online application status can be checked online. I imagine there are reasons people have not to use the online application, but for the life of me, I can't see any. I don't think I sent any documents, just input the information and took the documents to the interview. Because there is an interview prior to approval, there is really no need to send documents because (a) face it, they have access to boundless information about you anyway, and (b) you wouldn't submit false information knowing you could not back it up at the interview. I would put all the names and versions of names, e.g., any name you may have used on a driver's licence, birth certificate, passport at any time. If people call you by a diminutive, e.g., "Betty", but all your documents have always said "Elizabeth", I don't think you'd need to put Betty, but I also imagine there is no harm done if you do. I can't recall precisely, but I think the online form had spaces for multiple AKA names. I use my birth name but had a different version of it in the past. |

Thanks, I will go with the online app.
I have a similar issue, even "worse" though: my passport shows less names than some of my other forms of ID including birth certificate and drivers license. At the NEXUS office, they used the name from my drivers license - used as my secondary ID for the application - and I did not notice until I got the card in the mail. I had to phone them and ask for the account to be changed and card reissued so that the names matched the passport exactly. |
I applied for NEXUS and when they asked about convictions, I put that I had a disorderly conduct charge (drunk and lost and police found me passed out in a bush.). I received a conditional approval and have my interview in Montreal in May.
In anticipation for the interview I had my record expunged of the conviction and now have a notarized letter saying such from the clerk of courts. I also had a disorderly conduct at a horse race in college in 2013 (girl spilled drink on my pants, police thought I pissed myself and didn't believe my explanation so boom, arrested. Got to love the South), but I did PreTrial Intervention and did not receive a conviction so I did not list it. I will mention if asked about arrests. There is no record online for the arrest, but going to see if I can get a letter from the court vetting for my completion of the PTI program. If I'm honest in my interview, and considering the fact that the records are expunged/didnt result in a conviction, can I still get NEXUS? People online are either "speeding ticket +10mph from 30 years ago, doesnt matter! NO GE/NEXUS FOR YOU." or "I used to deal pot in college and have 10 posession charges but I did my interview in Vancouver and was honest and showed my expungement records and got the approval on the spot!" So I'm not really sure whether I'm going to get it or not, and that it's less than 10 years since it happened. I mainly want the Precheck benefits, but would love not to deal with long ... customs lines when I do go international. Thanks. |

You should assume that every arrest is known to your interviewer, whether or not you see it in an online search. The Federal database is remarkably complete. If there are questions about previous arrests, answer them honestly, and include each and everyone. Your description of your arrests wreak of minimization, and will be a red-flag to LEOs. No one will believe you that you got arrested for having a drink spilled on your pants, and if you really believe this, you should look in a mirror. Sorry, but the red-flags have been raised, and in the world of Trusted Travelers, that is all that is needed to exclude you. Good luck! |
Canada may give you more of an issue than the US when it comes to alcohol-related charges; but more than a few with similar situations during their college years have gotten NEXUS and GE several years later.
Just don't come across as trying to pull the wool over their eyes, for that doesn't go down well. |

Whether the arrest with a pre-trial diversion is a conviction under local law in whatever state that was, who knows how it got coded and who knows how it gets read. Be forthcoming about this and don't wait because that may be too late. The fact that you can't see it online in whatever system you are looking means very little. Like it or not, you have two alcohol-related incidents. Don't make light of them. Don't make jokes about the South (maybe that's where the Officer is from or maybe it's where his father grew up). Just deal with it and move on. |
Oh trust me, I'm not going to be anything but professional with the CBP. No jokes or any crap like that. I am going to be completely open and honest and am going to have all the proper documentation as proof to back up the expungement and the pre trial intervention completion. Not minimizing things, just saying what happened; I will not minimize/embellish/whatever you want to call it during my interview. Just hoping that I can still get NEXUS. I'll just appeal and get TSAPre if I get denied.
(Yes, it's my first post on FT, and I know how first time posters can come across on online forums. I'm more of a redditor myself, but figured I'd stop lurking and join here) |

Take the advice you have gotten to heart, and if you would be hurt by losing your application fee, save yourself the pain and do not apply until you are 10 years beyond your last false arrest. |
Haha! I'm being so honest when I say a drunk girl spilled her mint julep on me! It was one of those funny life stories to tell your grandkids someday.
Yep, I know how Canada sees DUIs (as they should tbh), and if I had a DUI I would not even think of applying. I just hope that since they could still clearly see it on the record that they wouldn't give me the conditional approval only to deny me in person. Fingers crossed! All we can do for these programs is to be honest and do our due diligence as it seems. Thanks for the input y'all |

That you have conditional approval is a good sign. |
Went to Seattle office today. Was told that I MUST do interview again for a renewal. Officer pulled me up in their system to confirm that my DL info had been updated.
Couldn't exactly HUACA when I was in the office. And since there are only 1-2 officers in there, the odds are good that the same person will answer the phone if I were to call. So I guess I get to OCD refresh the website until a better appointment time opens up. Any chance they just sent me the wrong conditional approval form letter, and I'll get auto-approved for the renewal? |
Two questions, TIA for answering:
1) I've had NEXUS since 2012 and need to renew by Jan 2017. I look different - no beard, lost some weight. No problem for me to get to Detroit or Seattle to renew in-person if a new pic is necessary; I'm in both places frequently. Anybody know if a new pic is required or not in renewal? I thought I would err on the safe side since I've had to pull out another ID in the last few trips with a more recent pic. 2) Answer to my own question (post 9606, p.640 re: CBP inviting me as a NEXUS holder to join the UK Registered Traveler program & whether or not NEXUS obviated the RT requirement of 4 UK trips in the last 24 months. I also questioned the value of the program but decided to enroll anyway. You still need 4 trips. RT could not find my trips from my passport number, 4 in the last 10 months alone. I found that odd because I thought they always scanned in my passport. So I had to send in a combo of AAdvantage statements + passport stamps. This part may be better situated in another thread, but if you use a RT kiosk like I do entering the US via GE there's no stamp I assume, so one would think the trip data is captured at LHR like it is here.. |
