Do you suggest that our friends... a) apply for NEXUS using their birth certificates, or b) apply for NEXUS using their passports... which will be renewed/replaced before we leave? I'm thinking that... in a perfect world... they could apply with their existing passports, then update their NEXUS information with the new passports when called for the NEXUS interview. Perhaps using the birth certificate would be the safer option? Is there any lesser benefits to using the birth certificate, when we are travelling with passports? |

My suggested time line assuming they are doing renewal and not full new passport (e.g. name change). 1. Get passport renewal information completed and presented at passport office before Christmas break. 2. Get new passport in mid January. 3. Apply for Nexus on receipt of new pasport. 4. Nexus interview at end of January. 5. Receipt of Nexus card in mid February. If you do the Nexus card first, you run the risk of delays at passport office. If you input the old passport onto the Nexus and cannot get it updated in time, the computer system will flag the passport as expired which could cause problems at the airport. |

The last time I was in the Nexus office in Blaine picking up a new declaration book I was told that you can no longer drop non Nexus card holders off and have them walk through while you use the Nexus lane. If you are caught doing this you will lose your pass on the spot.:(

I know the priority security lines in some cities accept nexus membership as one of the criteria, does anyone know if YYZ transborder security is one? I usually fly out at quiet times, so to be honest, have never bothered looking since the lines are usually small, with most of the holdup at customs. I take it over the next few days and/or weeks, no transborder security lines will be very short.

I usually find that the experience when showing the Nexus card to a border agent on either side of the border is no different to not showing the card. I've never just been waved through when showing my Nexus card.
Nowadays, I just go through the regular customs line - and bend over before they even ask. That's just my personal experience, I'm sure it's not the worst nor the best. Perhaps in 2010 I'll start Nexus again. |

I have a nexus pass, each and every time I use Nexus, they pull me in for questioning (on either side). I have had this pass for about 2 years, and travel to the US about 10 times a year, and not once have I ever scanned my retina and been passed through. The questions were very general, where I was going, where I was staying, how long will I be there, my birth date, etc. I never question them as to why they're pulling me in because the 1st time I did that, they nearly ripped me another @$$hole.

Multiple I-94: Do I need to contact NEXUS
Hi,
I have multiple I-94's : one for my Canada-US (which is stamped "Multiple Entry") to be used when I cross US-Canada borders, and another I-94 that I received when I flew from UK to USA. The agent insisted that I complete a I-94 rather than using my Multiple Entry I-94 originally issued. I have a L visa and work in US. Do I need to contact NEXUS of the second I-94, even though my original I-94 is still the same? |

I'm not sure what you should do about the Nexus situation. If you have a Nexus office nearby then the best thing would be to take both I-94s and just ask them what to do. |
nexus and the recent transborder restrictions
Hi,
Any news to report on using Nexus with the current security situation at Canadian airports? Does Nexus still get you into priority screening lines? Any change in the procedures for using the machines, or any increase in secondaries being noticed? More specifically to my case- has anyone used Nexus in the last 24 hours to access priority screening at YVR? When I last did this the "priority" line was way longer than the regular line. Seems like everyone at YVR has Nexus now, or else is some kind of Elite flyer. The problem at YVR, though, is once you are in the "priority" line you cannot switch to the regular lines. And you can't tell which line is longer before making a decision because they are separated and hidden behind screens. I sure don't want to take the "priority" line if it is way longer. Am travelling YVR-SEA-SFO tomorrow at 7:55 AM on AC and United. Looking forward to the one carryon and last hour insanity. |

Technically, if you were taking a trip outside this region you should have turned in your I-94 when leaving the US on that trip. Technically too, the agent who processed you should have taken away your I-94 when she issued you a new one on your arrival from the UK.

The reason you were not allowed to use the original I-94 is that you had left the "Western Hemisphere". Automatic I-94 revalidation is only allowed when you are travelling between the US and Canada, Mexico, certain Caribbean countries, and certain latin American countries.
