nexus
Most of the time when I'm using my nexus card at a non-nexus crossing I still get the usual questions like "Where do you live? purpose of your trip?...
I would think the agents should know that nexus members have already established their admissibility and background clearance, so probing questoins shouldn't be necessary. |

To play devil's advocate, there is one difference between Nexus and non-Nexus: no authentication of the person (i.e., iris scan at airports) or the card (RFID at land crossings). How much of a difference this ought to make can be the subject for debate :) |
nexus declined
Anyone have any issues with their nexus interview being declined and having issues at the border after the fact?
I have never had any issues crossing the border, land or air, but my interview was declined and I am curious if I will have problems from here on out. Thanks. |

That would explain why if a Nexus member chooses to use a regular lane, they get asked the regular questions. Although that is totally a guess |

Just curious - did they tell why you were declined?

Tonight at YYZ, on Customs form hand-in Nexus passengers were getting a full set of questioning. Right down to things like work authorization and what I was planning on doing in the US. (I have work authorization, but am just going down for a conference to attend,. totally unrelated).
Then he looks at me straight in the eyes and says "and how much food do you have with you"., Weird. |

Check with the US Customs site (www.google.com). The rules are clear and unambiguous. If you are asking what you can get away with, well, you can try anything, many do. Some people manage to get all sorts of things past Customs. If you have Nexus, though, you are risking your status if you break the rules.

I don't "think" that agents can see any Nexus data at all, unless they are on "Nexus" lanes.

Nexus Lanes
Some crossings do not have Nexus lanes (Newport,VT) or don't keep them open on a regular basis (Highgate Springs,VT). However, I have found that presenting a Nexus card at 1 of these crossings minimizes the time spent as compared to my calculations of the cars ahead of me...1 or 2 questions, and then on my way....perhaps about 1/2 to 2/3 less time spent than I would have had with the questioning sans Nexus.

Questions included where we are staying, what is in a particular suitcase (they have the nifty new system where the customs agent sees the checked bags on their screen based on your boarding pass), and so on. I should have asked whether that is now SOP for Nexus card holders, but decided not to.... |
Change of Car in Nexus land lane
If I register my father in law car for landborder crossing at Nexus, can i use a rented car in Nexus lane?
Same thing, can I use a car owned by me in Nexus lane or a car owned by one of my friends by laoned to me with a paper authorization? I guess it does not look good. |
why can't someone lend you a car to cross the border? is it legal? does his insurance cover you?
