When they ask me why I want a Nexus card, I was planning on saying it was bc I come frequently to come visit my husband. Should I not give that as an answer?
He is a Canadian citizen, and for the past year, I've been staying with him for a month or 2 at a time, going back to the US and then coming back to Canada. And have to calculate exactly how long I've been here if the case is 6 months in a year. They've let me in each time, twice I had to go speak with immigration, but they let me in after asking questions. We have been dating for a few years and we were just married a couple months ago and I am looking to apply for permenant residency once our marriage license is registered and I can get my marriage certificate. So I definitely do not want to do anything illegal. |

How the new YVR US processing procedures affecting NEXUS users?
Does anybody know how the new YVR US processing procedures are affecting NEXUS user?
We used to be able to skip to the front of the line while lining up to the duty-free/US CBP area. I believe they changed it so that people will need to drop their bags off, then proceed through security, then clear CBP. Are there any dedicated NEXUS lanes for the security screen and after the screening before the CBP? I asked this before I am going to take the 6am flight and last time when I did this (before the changes) the lineup was crazy at 4am in the morning. Thanks for your comments! |

"Members also have access to the priority lane at YVR's pre-board screening checkpoints, giving them expedited access to the security screening process for domestic, U.S. and international departures." It doesn't specifically say this applies to Nexus members, though one might reasonably assume that it should. I guess, YMMV. |
The problem with this process is that you check your bags and then go thru Duty Free. So, no chance to put your booze in your checked luggage. This is a BIG problem for anyone who buys liquids @ Duty Free and has a connecting flight from within the USA.
from: yvr.ca YVR is a "Pre-clearance Airport" for most airlines that fly to the United States. This means you will clear US Customs & Border Protection (US CBP) before departing Vancouver, essentially eliminating any clearance process upon your arrival in the U.S. U.S.A. Departures are from Gate E in the International Terminal. Complete your US declaration form and any other required documentation for border clearance. Check in at your respective airline counter. Use the screens located above the check-in counters to determine where your airline is checking in. Proceed to the baggage drop off area. If you do not have baggage to check, proceed through the corridor following the sign which states "Passengers without Checked Baggage." At the baggage drop off area, you will need to have your boarding pass ready for scanning. Oversized baggage can be checked in beyond the regular baggage belts. Proceed to security screening, following signs which state "E Gates". Proceed through to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. You will need to have your travel documents ready for inspection. Once you have cleared US Customs & Border Protection, you are considered a US domestic passenger and will not be able to return to the public areas of the airport. Proceed to your appropriate U.S.A. departure gate. |

Unless you have an international connection where you have to clear TSA again in the US. Plus, you won't have access to your checked bags if they are checked through to the destination.

Well, it does say, "NEXUS Air offers the same privileges as CANPASS Air plus the additional benefit of automated border clearance for entry into the United States". Seems pretty clear to me :)
How so? (Not clear to me where YVR has the duty free, before or after security -- YYC has both!) Anything you buy after security is fair game to take on a flight, whether it's a bottle of water or rum. Connections in the US don't matter, since you don't go security again in the US. |
With my experience with the INTERVIEW. It is just to get all the proper documents in order to make sure you are the person that applied. Also for iris scan and to show you how to use it.
I not a big traveller and was just asked if the 50 bucks is worth it for the little that I travel. I said yes they gave me my card and said have a nice day.

Hello,
I have been "conditionally approved" does this mean I'm pretty much getting a Nexus card? I'm assuming at this point I've passed all the back ground checks and all the information on my application have been confirmed? As for the Nexus interview, what types of questions do they ask? Do they grill you? Also, another random question, just incase someone is able to answer it. I am up in Canada visiting my husband a couple months at a time and I was told that you are allowed to stay in Canada as a US citizen 6 months at a time, and as long as I went back to the US for a bit and came back that would okay. So I've been going back to the US every couple of months. But now I'm reading on some websites that it's a maximum of 6 months within a calendar year. Thank you for your help. |
Key item to always remember is to inform NEXUS of any change of your documents ... was there this past week at YYZ T1 getting my profile updated and some poor fellow was getting hammered for not having informed them in person of docs which had expired in July of this year!

I was told at the Nexus office that you even are supposed to let Nexus know if your employment status changes. |

Or any terminal changes. As an example, flying into MSP and SEA, you can get to gate to gate w/o any security checks. Can't do that if you have to change terminals such as at LAX or JFK.

I went through Nexus at YVE a few days ago (flying YVR to ORD). The new procedures are in place whereby you first drop off your bags, then go through security, then go through US customs and immigration.
But how does it work that we can drop off our bags before going through immigration? Isn't the whole point that we need to have all of our stuff with us while going through US immigration/customs in case the agents want to search our bags? And what if I've declared something on my customs card, like food for example, that they want to take a look at, but it is in my checked luggage? I go through US customs, the guy wants to look at this food but it's in my checked bag which is already on its way to the airline. How does this work? |

Once you get your Nexus it is contingent upon you to update with the Nexus folks any changes to your documents - for instance you get a new driver's license (or renew it) or renew your passport, you must update the information with Nexus. In fact if I am not mistaken, it is now setup so that your Nexus is terminated just before your passport expires, so it is wise to renew your passport well in advance and pass that information along.
Is my NEXUS terminated or just on hold pending an updated DL? And if only on hold, can I do it at the YUL office or do I have to go to the originating country/office (in my case, Champlain, NY)? Thanks. |

Arrived in YUL tonight only to find that the system told me I was "an unauthorized traveler". My bad, I just renewed my drivers license and forget to tell NEXUS. :(
