Makes sense, but we are talking about bureaucrats. I'll try the YUL office in the AM. Thanks.

I must say that everytime I use my nexus I am reminded what a good investment it is. This last weekend I breezed past the line at US immigration, able to enjoy the lounge the leisurely make it to the plane. It turned out the plane was delayed about 60 minutes as pax stuck in the line.

On my return through YYZ several European flights came in and the customs hall was packed. Nexus empty. 15 minutes from the time I got off my US plane until I was in the domestic lounge.

I wish there was a way nexus card holders could have a shorter legal connection. YVR has a 1 hour 10 minute minimum connect time. An upcoming trip has great flights 1 hour apart nut can't be booked and of corse splitting has som risk and a significant added cost.

Canada to US connections

Does YYZ have NEXUS kiosks in the US connections area for Canada to US connections? Which airports have NEXUS kiosks in the US connections area?

It's hard to tell whether one should follow the "US connections" signs when making a connection at an airport and risk there not being any NEXUS kiosks there. I guess for airports that don't have kiosks in the connection area, you would have to exit the secure area and enter as if you were originating from that airport rather than follow the connection signs. What would happen if you had checked baggage in that case?

It would be nice if there were a list that indicated which airports have kiosks in the US connections area and which don't.

There is on Kiosk there, but it was down when I went through two weeks ago, so I had to see a human.

Sure does. When you go through the automatic doors into Canadian Immigration, you will immediately see a sign with a US flag on it and an arrow directing you to the left. Follow that sign, carry on up the escalator and you will be in US connections baggage claim. Get your bags (this can be a long wait), show your boarding card and US customs form to the control agent, and hang a sharp left. The kiosk is right ahead of you. No need to stop at the immigration desk, carry on to the Custom's officer collecting the blue card & your nexus receipt. Drop your bags, go through security and head up to the lounge for some well-earned cocktails.

Comments on trusted traveler programs?

...Hi, all - I'm a FlyerTalk member who's also a journalist. I'm writing about trusted traveler programs for one of the newspapers where I contribute.

If you're willing to talk on the record about your experiences with Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI, please contact me.

I'm also writing about the possible resurrection of CLEAR, so if you were a CLEAR customer, would also like to hear from you.

I will be much less mysterious once we connect.

Thanks!

I don't think many airports even have a separate customs hall/lanes for people transiting to the US. Of the airports with NEXUS:

YYZ - has separate lanes for transit, has NEXUS in it
YYC - no separate area for transit
YEG - ?
YVR - has "back hall" connection for transiting flyers that may or may not be open, but I don't know if this dumps you into the same customs hall as the locals or a separate hall
YWG - ?
YOW - ?
YUL - ?
YHZ - ?

Hmm, I haven't visited many Canadian airports on the way to the US lately :)

Just tried it for the first time at YVR on Mon/Tues. It worked like a charm. Did not need my card, just scanned my iris, with my contacts on and I was out/in. Very fast and I highly recommend it.

Arrived into YYC lastnight and one of the first off UA630. 3 other flights arriving at the same time. The regular primary inspection lines had about 3 deep and expanded to 10 deep in about 1 minute. The nexus connection to this rant. There was a line about 7 deep for Nexus machines (both were operating). What is going on at YYC?

YYC based frequent flying friends, we have to stop telling coworkers, neighbours, friends, and random people on C-train about Nexus. If they ask, tell them there is a chance iris scanner will fry their brains, twitch a little afterwards to drive home the point. :D:D:D There are too many Nexus card holders in YYC to retain our exclusive club status. :D

In all seriousness, it took about 2 minutes to get through the line-up cause everyone was using the machines efficiently. Perhaps a couple more machine are justified. Also, I really like the new machine placement in line with primary inspection. Makes it clear to all that Nexus/Canpass do not need to see an agent.

Seems like this morning at YYZ T1, US Pre-clearance area, there were more secondaries than usual for Nexus members. The person in front of me had V-PG on his kiosk receipt, but the officer collecting the customs cards directed him to the secondary area. Also heard a few others talking about being pulled over, or had colleagues pulled over, in the MLL.

They have to keep you honest somehow.

I believe so... apparently it was an machine malfunction as the NEXUS officer told me that an expired DL should not have caused the problem. He entered my new DL info so it should be good to go. I never had a chance to see it in action as all three kiosks in the YUL Preclearance area were non-functioning the morning I left.

But nice to see a special NEXUS security lane to bypass the masses, such as they are in YUL. ^

:cool:FYI and I don't know if it has been posted before. At YUL there is a special security line for nexus card holders to the left of the regular line. It took me a few turns around the windie line before I noticed the nexus sign over the VIP line. Very cool and should be replicated in every airport afaic!

Ummm... the post just before your post.
And the Nexus security line is to the right of the regular line.
