I don't know if you are a Canadian Citizen or US Citizen but I know for me being a us citizen I was able to sign up for Global Entry for free and expires when my Nexus membership expires. I could be wrong but I think is only set up for US citizens to do since I don't believe Canadians can sign up for Global Entry.

For years I've wasted a boatload of time standing in the customs hall, now apparently I'm in a rush to use Nexus. Yesterday I had my interview (Ft Erie) and was told then and received my approval email.
I was told by a interviewing officer that they used to issue them on the spot but now it takes about a month. Odd...from something that can be issued immediately to going to another office and taking that long. Does anyone know about how long realistically it should be before I receive my card? |

Cleared US pre-clearance at YHZ yesterday, took my papers to the officer and he asked to see my passport and Nexus card. He didn't actually check them (passport remained closed and Nexus card in its protective cover) and said that he was just making sure that I had them both.
My guess is that they know you have a Passport, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to obtain your boarding pass. Several times, the card in the sleeve has been satisfactory (Ottawa is the most militant about wanting to see the card, in my experience).

Probably two weeks. |

Really just a quick semi-random check to keep us all "honest" and (more likely) to make themselves feel useful ;) |

Not necessarily true, some airlines (e.g., UA, AC) will let you get a BP with OLCI. If you only have carry-on (and NEXUS), then you can easily get to the gate before showing any ID to anyone (or any machine).

Worked in our benefit many times especially in YYZ if you are coming back from int'l travel.
Same at the Peace Arch.. Go thru Nexus and come back thru the general line. |

Just got this email:
I had always thought carrying a passport was de rigeur for NEXUS. Also, does anyone know if a US citizen can enter Canada by air from a country other than the US (assuming you have the iris scan in the system). |

I received that e-mail also. Does it mean you can enter the US from the Caribbean or Mexico with just a NEXUS card and does that apply to both US and Canadian citizens? If so what are the odds that the CBP personnel also got the e-mail.

Yes you can enter Canada from any country and use the Nexus lane. A better question is if I can use the Nexus lane in an upcoming situation I have. My situation is I will be landing in YYZ from LHR then transfering to a flight to CLE.

Assuming you're flights arrive at & depart from T1, follow the US flag on signs that will allow you to bypass Canada immigration and head directly towards US preclearance, which is NEXUS-capable. However, at YYZ one still must wait for any checked bags to be brought to the connection carousel. Pick yours up if any, and carry it through the US checkpoint.
