What todd-r said. Full and complete disclosure, without being prompted, is expected of Nexus program members. Sometimes this leads to interesting situations, like me trying to pay the duty owed on a $10 purchase while on a transborder mileage run. ("What, you don't want the $1.20?" "NO." But said with a wry smile, and an acknowledgment that the program does, indeed, require such a level of honesty.) I find my border crossings to be much less stressful under this regime, actually, including at sites that don't have Nexus.

Anyway, there's a TDC drop box somewhere on the northbound Nexus lane at Peace Arch -- I always seem to miss it when I'm driving through, and always end up handing the card to the agent. The confusion might be because the TDC booklets themselves are being phased out in favor of the fill-and-print version available on the Web.

But having said that, if you hold a NEXUS, you have already satisified the screening process so why would they not recgonize???

My point exactly. You have been pre-cleared to cross the border.

If they wanted, they could send you to secondary inspection for verification.

I just got my conditional approval notice for NEXUS. Is there a certain center that I should visit, or can they all do the IRIS scanning?

You can do your interview at any Nexus office. All the airport offices have iris scanners, while only select other offices have them. If you go to the Nexus site, and look at the enrollment centres, there is a * (or something) to designate the offices that have an iris scanner.

Some offices, i.e. the airport ones, especially YYZ, tend to take longer to get an appointment. As an alternative, you can go to any office that has a time that meets your needs, and then walk into a center with an iris scanner, no appt. necessary, to get your scan and fingerprints done.

I scheduled my interview at the office near Boeing Field. Flights to Canada were a lot more than flights to SEA.. As far as the offices with the IRIS scanner, I did not see anything next to the offices that would indicate the IRIS equipment, but I'll look again..

Just checked in online for my UA flight to YYZ tomorrow, and indeed, was able to put my Nexus card in as my ID. Chose to use this instead of my passport (which is already in my profile), just to see how it goes.

All seems to be ok so far...got my BP's and everything. However, I didn't see a checkbox to add it to my profile for future flights. I checked my profile afterwards, and just saw my same passport there. Will have to wait till this weekend to see if it is able to pull it up when I check in for the return.

You can also add the iris scan later without an appointment if you already have a Nexus card. So if the there is a Nexus interview location (without iris scan) that is close by, you can interview there to get your card and get your irises scanned the next time you're at a location that does do it (eg, YYZ).

I recently completed the Nexus application and interview process and am waiting for my card to arrive in the mail.

I noticed this message in my GOES account...

"As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message."

Is this new? It's certainly not what I was told at my interview in YYC.

Last time I checked Canadians were not eligible for Global Entry.

There was a rumour that Canadians with NEXUS would be able to use it soon - I'm not sure if this means that this is now the case, but it's a good sign.

I logged into GOES just now and I have the same message about Global Entry. I'm a Canadian citizen.

I have the same message, but the site isn't allowing me to apply for it. When you click "Enroll in a new program" the option is there, but you cannot select it. Hopefully soon.

OK...I'm a Nexus newbie, but the message says "as a NEXUS member you can now use the Global Entry kiosks"...it doesn't say you need to apply for Global Entry in order to use them so I don't think enrolling for another program is required.

BlondeBomber Dec 22, 2010 12:57 pm

I think the message goes to everybody but only applies to US citizens right now--although it would be interesting to try!

See: NEXUS NEWS

NEXUS and SENTRI Members that are US Citizens or US Lawful Permanent Residents May Utilize the Global Entry Kiosks

(11/17/2010)Current approved NEXUS or SENTRI members, who are U.S. Citizens or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents and are 14 or older, can now apply for Global Entry trusted traveler program at no additional cost via the Global Online Enrollment System GOES web site. ( GOES ) GOES will require a user account and a password to use the site. This can be done during the GOES new user account registration process or by changing the GOES existing user account’s profile.

Once an account is created or updated with the NEXUS or SENTRI, you can login to GOES and submit a Global Entry program application. GOES will pre-populate the application with the existing information from your NEXUS or SENTRI application.

Upon submission of the Global Entry program application:

If your passport and fingerprint information are already on file, your Global Entry application will automatically be approved.
If not, your Global Entry application will be conditionally approved. You will then need to schedule an interview with the enrollment center to complete the application process.

Note: Your approved Global Entry membership will have the same expiration date as your existing NEXUS or SENTRI membership. Enrolled parents traveling with children under 14 must process through the regular passport control line.

After your Global Entry application is approved, you may begin using the Global Entry kiosks for expedited processing into the U.S. using your passport or lawful permanent resident card.

That's my interpretation, too. Really, it's pretty clear.

I think the thing to do is for someone to phone a NEXUS office and ask the question directly. Either that, or someone who is transiting through a Global Entry airport give it a try and see what happens. (Maybe print out the GOES screen in case you get questioned - that way you won't get into trouble if we're misinterpreting things.)

Unfortunately the only airports I can fly to directly that have Global Entry are LAS and ORD. Most of our US flights, alas, are to DEN and MSP (with a few to PHX). Still, if this is what it appears to be it will be a big help when transiting through ORD, and I imagine other US airports will eventually have it (DEN seems a no-brainer).
