Has anyone had any success speaking to someone at the YVR Nexus office over the phone lately? I've called several times over the past few days and I always get the voicemail using the number listed on the website. Should I just leave a voicemail and hope they eventually get back to me?

Yes. They do get back to you, usually the same day.

=aw

At my interview yesterday, I specifically asked about a passport renewal and I was told to update it online - no mention of a time limit, but I can well see doing it before using Nexus again.

As a NEXUS member, you will be able to use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. once you provide your 10-fingerprints to CBP. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. If you wish to use Global Entry, please contact any Trusted Traveler Enrollment Center to schedule an appointment to have your fingerprints captured. Enrollment center information can be found at http://www.NEXUS.gov/, http://www.SENTRI.gov/ or http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/.

Appears I require a fingerprint visit.

I will not be near a Nexus Enrollment Centre anytime soon. However, I will be in ORD within the next two months. Has anyone had their fingerprint registery updated to 10-fingerprints at a Global Entry office (in a US airport) since the December change? Am wondering if they will know what the heck I am talking about when I phone....Nexus what??

Email from CBP today

"Congratulations! As a valued U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler Program member, you are now able to take full advantage of the Global Entry program. Global Entry allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers via automated self self-service kiosks upon arrival in the United States and is currently available at 20 of the major U.S. international airports. Locations of airports as well as additional program information can be found by going to www.globalentry.gov."

Note that I am a Nexus member and have Canadian permanent resident status. I am not a citizen of either country. This email should put to rest any speculation about whether Global Entry is meant for US people only.

I need my fingerprints done, and part of the message I got on GOES said:

I presume that means that you should be able to go to a GE or Nexus center.

As for my story, I was going to try to do it at YYZ office pre-christmas, but couldn't make it. On the phone, when I asked to set up an appointment, the Canadian officer answering the phone had no idea, but said that since I am a Nexus card holder already, and just wanted fingerprints scanned, I could just come in and a CBP officer would handle it, as they do all fingerprinting. Makes sense, but I couldn't make it.

Called ORD GE office, as I was planning on being in Chicago (but driving) over new years. Officer asked if I had an enrollment letter, I said no, I was a Nexus member and GOES told me I just needed fingerprints done. He also said just to come in, no appt. necessary. Didn't make it to ORD that trip. But at least I was consistently told the same thing in two offices.

I will be flying to SFO at the end of the month, so will be planning to do it there. Will report back with the results.

As a result of reading some posts that suggested a personal visit should follow a passport renewal, I suggested to my wife that she drop into the Nexus office. This despite the statement on their website addressing this issue:

Can I update my passport/lawful permanent resident card information in GOES?

Yes, you can update any passport or U.S. lawful permanent resident card that is in GOES. If the document information is not already in GOES, you must go to a trusted traveler enrollment center to add that information.

And this appears elsewhere on the site:

Passport and/or Permanent Resident expiration dates can be updated using your GOES account. For all other documents, you will need to contact the Enrollment Center and present a current travel document.

As this was a renewed passport, I thought she would be fine but we wanted to avoid any potential delays on our next trip.

She has not used the Nexus pass recently because her travelling companions need to go through normal channels, and she prefers to remain with them.

When she was called for the interview, she was shocked to find out she is in "serious violation" of the rules- in fact she has three black marks on her record:

Strike #1: She tried to use her Nexus card with an expired passport on file. Although she had a current passport, it was not updated on the Nexus system. (Guilty as charged.)

Strike #2: She attempted to bring her daughter through the Nexus system, and her daughter is not registered. (Not really guilty- the person directing passengers through the customs/immigration area suggested that she could clear herself and her daughter through the "crew line". We both seem to recall that procedure was ok'd during the initial interview and "training" meeting.)

Strike #3: She failed to update the file in person (with the renewed passport) in a timely manner. 2 weeks was given as the time limit...can't find that one anywhere on the website. In fact, as noted above, updating on the website is sufficient! (Not guilty!!)

She was informed that her case will be reviewed by a supervisor, and she can expect to have her card revoked in 2014 when it expires.

A little heavy handed? I think so. We both understand and appreciate the gravity of proper documentation and process when crossing the border, but these "violations" were certainly administrative and in no way were done with malicious intent to circumvent the rules.

We'll see what happens the next time she uses the card, but we will allow extra time for secondary inspection, and possible time in the penalty box!

In terms of the passport renewal, I now do it both online and in person - better to be safe then sorry. I've never heard anything about a two week time limit - I've always been told passport must be updated before you use Nexus again. My impression, as I posted before, is that US encourages online updating, while the Canadians like it done in person.

As to your case, strike 3 I'll certainly give you, 1 or 2 on their own are most certainly offenses that can get your membership revoked. I would say that if your wife's card wasn't taken on the spot, you got pretty lucky.

I'm a little unclear if the strike 1 is in connection with the fact you updated a passport online but not in person, or if these were different updating instances. If the new passport was updated online after your wife's old one expired, but before she traveled using Nexus, I'll give you your strike 1 back as well. If the passport in the strike 1 case was not updated either online or in person first, then Nexus rules were broken, and she should have had the card revoked, and would be denied an application, certainly within the next few years due to this violation.

As for strike 2, you are never allowed to bring anyone in the Nexus line who is not a Nexus member, irregardless of age or whether they are your child. This is pretty clear in the member guide, under the terms and conditions section. Regardless of what the person directing you in the line informed you, I would trust the rules in the Nexus guide first. I understand your wife brought your daughter to the crew line which is staffed with an agent, just like the other booths, and not to a kiosk. But still, this wasn't really a smart move.

I believe there is a process to appeal the revocation of membership, if it comes to this. To be honest, I'm not really sure what ground your wife would have to stand on if it came down to this.

Just checked my GOES account and sure enough I can now use the Global Entry system:

As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message.
Good deal! :) We received our Nexi last February at YYC and were fingerprinted.

P.S. We renewed our passports online via the GOES site in October.

Got the same email today and I am sure many others did as well. The last part says:

Please login to your Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account at https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov to find out what you must do to take advantage of this exciting new program. If you do not currently have a GOES account, please register for one in order to find out about your new benefits.

FYI: I logged into GOES and there is no additional info except the message that's been there for a while.

I found the same thing. Tried to see if I could register for GOES and it's "greyed out". What gives?

I suggest reading back through some of the recent posts in this thread. Your answer will be there.

I'm loving the Global Entry privileges so far! Haven't gotten an e-mail, but saw the GOES message last week. I went to the GE office at SFO to get my sticker. The CBP agent didn't see my GE enrollment in the system and asked if I had any documentation. I showed him the GOES printout (glad I brought it), and after a few keystrokes he put the sticker on my US passport and said I was good to go.

Yesterday I arrived into SFO from ICN, when the lines were busy with all the incoming Asia flights. There was no one at the GE kiosks. Even more advantageously, there is a crew line and it had a bit of a queue. The GE lane at SFO, however, is also the Diplomat lane!

The GE kiosk initially said that my enrollment in GE could not be verified and that I needed to get in line to see an agent. Fortunately, I tried again and it processed me with no further problem. I took the printout and my Declaration card to the agent following baggage claim, and he said the Declaration card isn't necessary for GE members (even though the questions asked on the GE screen are not quite as extensive, such as no need to itemize small purchases of good acquired abroad). Couldn't have been easier. ^

My GOES notification does not say anything about getting a sticker. Is this only for US passport holders?
