You can use GE kiosks with a Nexus card.

New Zealand does not have GE kiosks, just SmartGate kiosks that only accept ePassports.

Many thanks for yours (and others') replies on this topic. Looking forward to a trip to Sydney early next year. Cheers!

If you are GE and applied/approved for NEXUS, you will get a new card. As KPOM mentioned, all US passports (along with a dozen other countries' passports) with the biometric chip can use Australia's SmartGate .

You don't need to be enrolled in any CBP Trusted Traveler program to use Australia's SmartGate.

On that note, New Zealand still has dedicated lanes for Global Entry members. I called them to inquire if they will accept someone with a Nexus card but they were unable to answer this. Anyone with first hand experience here?

Because they probably have no idea what NEXUS is.

This is the probably the only potential advantage of having real GE.

But if you are enroll in NEXUS and then in GE, not sure if you can have ACTIVE GE and NEXUS cards.

Is there such a thing as a "GE card"? I'd assume that I could use a GE lane provided I have access to GE, although Nexus members don't really have any way to prove membership (other than the machines accept their passports and fingerprints)

Both GE and Nexus have cards, however if you activate Nexus after you've had GE, they deactivate the GE card and those that applied for GE after they've had Nexus, did not get the option to renew their Nexus at all.

Not only do they deactivate the GE card, they tell you in the nexus interview using the GE card will be treated as an attempt to use an invalid card. And in so doing your Nexus status could be revoked. I followed the interviewer's suggestion and cut the GE card in half after the Nexus card arrived and was activated.

I was told by CPB at my Nexus interview that GE is fingerprints and passport. My Nexus card (and I suppose a GE card) is irrelevant for GE procedure.

That is true except that for land border crossing into the US from Canada or Mexico, all you do is scan an active card, no passport or fingerprints needed.

Originally GE didn't have cards. When CBP semi-merged their trusted traveler programs and NEXUS/SENTRI members got to use GE kiosks, they started issuing GE cards so that GE members could have expedited land border crossings back into the US (although not into Canada or Mexico since GE members didn't interview with those countries' agencies). Those of us who had signed up for GE before this had to pay an additional fee to have a card issued if we wanted it.

Yes. And the above questions for relevant only for people who have GE but not Nexus, then apply for and get Nexus. Which deactivates the GE card.

Hi Mesabadad (nice name, btw):

We plan to go to International Falls for our interview as well and when researching happened on the link below. I called the number "For iris photograph information, please call 807-274-3655" indicated in the link below. The number is for the Canadian Border Services agency in St. Francis. A nice lady answered and said, "yes, once your interview is done on the US side, come on over to Canada and we'll do the iris scan, no appointment necessary". Hope this helps.

My wife and I went to International Falls for our interviews today. We arrived 1 hour early and we both done in 30 minutes total. We asked the Canadian border agent at the interview about getting an iris scan. He confirmed we could get one at Canadian Customs in Ft Frances. When entering Canadian customs at the border crossing we told them why we were entering Canada and they told us to pull over because THE IRIS SCANNER HAS BEEN MOVED TO THEIR BORDER CROSSING OFFICE. We got out entered the building and were on our way back into the US in 10 minutes. They were unsure how long the scanner would remain there.

I suggest calling ahead about iris scans and also asking at the interview and the border crossing.

We were approved immediately and should get our cards in about 2 weeks.

I've been a member of Nexus since 2011 and recently became a US Citizen and now have a US Passport. This change of passport information cannot be accomplished on the GOES web site and it appears must be done at an enrollment center in person.

Does anyone know if I can update US gov at JFK airport (instead of driving up to Champlain NY)? I'm planning to update Canada gov at Montreal airport when I am up there next.

In my experience (which was awhile ago), updating the information at a Global Entry office in the US will successfully update the US's records, so that may work to allow you to keep using the GE benefit for entry into the US, but don't quote me on that. When you next visit YUL, you'll probably want to enter via the regular line and not the NEXUS line, since Canada won't know about your updates.

Interviewed at Champlain 2 weeks ago. Canadian officer handed this paper to me and told me to fax my updated passport to 518-298-7949. Specifically the passport fax needs to be full size, clear and with ample margins. He showed me how they literally take the fax, fold the edge to mimic it being the size of a passport and swipe the fax through the passport scanner.

Just had my interview at Vancouver downtown. Is it unusual to not get an approval email following the interview? The officer said I would either receive the card or a denial letter in mail, but I seem to recall folks also getting approval emails. My status online in GOES also still says "Interview Scheduled."

Edit: nevermind, it came in about 1.5 hours after I left the interview :D
