I wear contacts all the time while using the Nexus eye scanners. It's not an issue. I believe the only time you can't wear glasses or contacts is at the initial retina scan upon receiving Nexus. I guess that first "recording" scan is more detailed.

IME, several years ago, the scans stopped working when I had my glasses on. I believe that time was the first time I had newer glasses, which were HD lenses with anti-glare, anti-scratch, etc. coating. I tried a couple of times with those glasses again, and couldn't get it to work, so now make sure they are removed all the time. Prior to this having this pair of glasses, it worked not a problem.
My guess is that some coatings (but not necessarily all) on lenses probably prevent the scanner from getting a good or at least clear enough image to use. But if the coatings on your glasses don't seem to have an affect, I don't see why you couldn't leave them on. YMMV, I guess. |
I've always had to flip my glasses up to get a good scan at the machines, but I've never tried contacts. I can't imagine they would be a problem if the lenses are clear, but if you wear the color changing or accenting versions with patterns, it might be an issue.

I was up in Montreal on the 16th for my Nexus interview.. They scanned my eyes twice.. Once with and once without my glasses...
I was told that I didn't need to remove my glasses when using the scanner.. I received my card in the mail on the 20th.. (already had my GE) |
At a recent renewal interview, the agent told me the iris scanners won't work with contacts if the lenses have a tint or colour. My contacts have a barely noticeable "visibility tint" that is just dark enough so that you can see them to pick them out of their container, and I have never had a problem using the scanners while wearing them.

Has anyone recently gone through the online application? My roommate did it back in March and it took them just under 3 weeks to get approved.
I've just past the 6 week mark and my online application is still set to "pending review". |

So I wanted to check on something.
I know coming back into Canada, you cannot use Nexus machines with commercial goods. However, it seems (as I am reading the rules) you can going into the US via Global Entry. Is that true? All I never bring are banners and brochures but I wanted to double check |
I am going to apply for Nexus, along with my spouse and two kids. Are there any tips or things I should be aware of when applying for the whole family? Can the applications be linked so we are given interview times together?

Prioritize the parents first, and bring your kids to the parent's appointment. If they're not swamped and your kids are fairly young, you can ask if they are able to squeeze the kids into your appointment slot too |

When taking kids in for interviews, it is easiest if both parents are there. If not, they will require a notarized letter from the parent who is not there. Alternatively, an agent suggested that they could put the application on hold and if the other parent comes by the office within 30 days, they will approve it then. |

Yes, but isn't the "visibility tint" mostly around the edge? Tint to change color would be blocking more of the main part of the eye.

You can use the Global Entry machines as a benefit of your NEXUS membership, but you use them as a NEXUS member and the NEXUS rules still apply. |
