If he's going through the NEXUS lane with these boxes, what kind of declaration does he have to make for these boxes? In fact, what kind of declaration does he need to make driving into Canada even if he doesn't have a NEXUS card? Also, if you have a (relatively low-cost) present for someone, do you have to declare it?

When driving to Canada from U.S.A, NEXUS lane can only be used by NEXUS card holders.

I know, and chances are he will have his by the time he undertakes this trip.

Technically you're not supposed to use Nexus lane if you're transporting someone else's property. It's been awhile but this issue was even an episode of the TV show about CBSA/CBP border crossings. (Border Protection I think it was called)

Yeah, just better in general too avoid the nexus lane if you have any larger amount of stuff that would require any sort of declaration. Why risk having your card revoked on the first try? Just use it on future trips when all you have is a carry on.

I have been conditionally approved for Nexus [Current Global Entry member, expires April 2020 so in my renewal window]
The website says you need to SCHEDULE your interview within 365 days, other information says you need to COMPLETE your interview within 365 days. Anyone know which is correct?
Also, anyone have any luck walking into YYZ without an appt?

Schedule and complete the enrollment interview within 365 days of the conditional approval.

My Nexus "interview" was done as walkin at YYZ.
(I had GE already, only question was from CBSA, "Why do you want Nexus," I replied "cause I connect in Canada frequently," and was done)However this was nearly 2 years ago.

Next month I’m headed on a trip to the UK and Ireland, and one of the return legs is DUB-IAD through Aer Lingus.

Does the KTN for my NEXUS card have to be part of my Aer Lingus booking to be able to use the Global Entry kiosk at US preclearance in DUB?

No, the KTN only needs to be there for Precheck within the US.

I thought that might be the case but I wanted to double-check. Thank you!

I'm an idiot, so I just want to confirm to be sure: Does having a NEXUS card mean I don't need my passport in both directions, i.e. from the US to Canada, and then back from Canada to the US?

Also, does anyone know if the NEXUS card will be sufficient as a replacement for REAL ID? My state is not issuing REAL IDs for our drivers licenses yet and I have a feeling it's going to be a cluster-you-know what of people getting them before the deadline next year.

Yes, it suffices as a REAL ID, though like anything expect the TSA and what have you to not recognize it every once in a while.

As for it being a replacement for your passport between the US and Canada, depends on the airlines and the agents. I think Air Canada and United accept Nexus cards but as I mentioned, sometimes an airline employee might not know anything about the Nexus card. I think Porter Air still mandates carrying a passport and I don’t know about other airlines.

Thanks for the response. I should've clarified that I meant border crossing via the ground, either driving or walking to Canada from the US and back home!

Good to know on the REAL ID thing. I think my state is one of the last ones and I just got a new driver's license without REAL ID, so being able to wait will be nice, as long as my NEXUS application gets approved soon. Fingers crossed!

It should work for land crossings. My girlfriend and I went through a non-NEXUS lane from Canada and CBP accepted her NEXUS card as proof of citizenship and I'm certain Canadian agents would, too.

It works for all land and sea border crossings, and for airport border crossing as long as fly between US/CANADA without a stop in another country. If an airline agent says no, have them call their support desk. No passport is required.

As the card is issued by feds, its REAL-ID compliant.
