Funny enough, last October we drove from Seattle to Vancouver and the officer asked all sorts of questions because we're far from our state of residence (Virginia). She even asked why we got NEXUS cards even though we live pretty far from the Canadian border. And when we told her were on a trip to the Pacific Northwest and that we're entering Canada for a day and coming back the next day, she asked which day our flight back to Virginia would be. On the way back, we haven't had the chance to go through the NEXUS lane because it was late at night and the US officer just asked what we did in Canada and what we had to declare.

Meanwhile, when I flew to Toronto last August, I didn't go through the NEXUS lane because I didn't want to leave my girlfriend alone (who at the time didn't have a NEXUS card and that trip was for her to do her appointment at Toronto airport). So we went through the regular line together and the officer didn't even say anything to us he checked our papers and there we exchanged funny banter and let us through. So it was much easier than the experience we had entering Canada while driving, though we may have been scrutinized because we live in Virginia and we drove a rental car. I don't know if it's typical or not as compared to someone who lives in Washington state, for example. When my girlfriend she did her interview right before we flew back to the US, they immediately approved her NEXUS card and we used it in US preclearance, which had us sail through security and immigration lines.

This time we're flying to Montreal on Memorial Day weekend and so we'll both get to try NEXUS Air into Canada for the first time.

Anyone able to get Nexus + H1B to work at the Global Entry Kiosks? When I had TN it worked perfectly. I switched over to H1B and ended up going into for Nexus renewal interview shortly after. While at the interview I mentioned the change in status, they said no problem they would update things.

1st try at the GE kiosk - TN still shows up as an option, no H1B option, hit OTHER for the dreaded X, walk over and the guy was cheery and he told me that H1B + Nexus option doesn't show up and I just need to hit OTHER every time and it's not a big deal.
2nd try at GE kiosk - same as above but this time the guy tells me, it can be made to work and that he can fix it. He worked away at the computer for 5 minutes said, I should be good to go and it should work next time.
3rd try at GE kiosk - about halfway through the questions, the terminal hangs and throws an error saying unknown error, go to counter. This guy tells me you can't use Nexus + H1B and I need to go through the regular line and the programs aren't compatible. He has me fill out a declaration form and tells me he will process me this time. I tell him he is wrong and that I have used this line and exact counter before, he just shrugs and tells me he doesn't know and lets me go.

It's irritating because the closest Nexus office is nearly a 2 hour drive away. I know I need to go in to the Nexus office to get this fixed but I wanted to go know if is it possible to have the H1B option show up on the terminal the way it did TN?

IOW,entry into Canada was no more,or less, difficult than it's been in the past. But coming home (I'm a US citizen) the US Customs agent asked me if I had anything to declare,I said "no",and he let me through. The exchange took no more than 10 seconds.

I'm wondering if my encounter with the Canadian official is typical for US citizen NEXUS Card holders.

I think I-87 is Blackpool maybe?? I used to cross all the time at I-89 but then discovered Rouse's Point which is teeny and easy! I got Nexus in the first place for crossing at I-81 (Lansdowne aka Thousand Islands) because the Nexus lane was always empty! Yes, I always got asked questions going into Canada even with Nexus and almost nothing going back to the US (am US citizen). Top tip for crossing though: I love using the free ferry from Kingston to Wolfe Island and then the little tiny ferry to Cape Vincent. It cuts a lot of driving out (ok is often slower but not always if traffic is bad!), plus there is never a queue longer than the number of cars on the little ferry. :-) However for Montreal to VT and back I can strongly recommend Rouse's Point - small detour, no lines. Enjoy the benefits though, the busy days at the bigger borders make Nexus totally worthwhile!

I-87 U.S. side is Champlain. Canadian side is Lacolle (perhaps more formally St. Bernard de Lacolle). Wikipedia says some call it Blackpool but that was technically the long closed U.S. 9 crossing.

Hi Everyone, I currently have GE and was planning to switch to NEXUS. However, when I logged in I noticed this:
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0dd34c6b06.png
For GE, it clearly states 'includes TSAPre', but for NEXUS it says 'may include TSAPre'. I tried searching this thread but didn't find anything on this. Have any of you noticed this, or have heard anything about NEXUS benefits being modified in the future?

PreCheck comes with NEXUS but whether it’s PreCheck with GE or NEXUS, it’s never a 100% guarantee you’ll get precheck whenever you check in for your flight with your GE/NEXUS number. Some airlines don’t offer precheck and sometimes you might not get precheck even with an airline that offers it.

Hello milekflyer,

I moved your question to The NEXUS Information Thread, where PreCheck for NEXUS members has been discussed.

I noticed the CBP graphic myself couple of days back and what stood out to me was the language used in SENTRI.

It seems like SENTRI now has the same (and then more) privileges as NEXUS card? Does SENTRI card enrollment allow for iris scan registration @ Canadian port of entry? If not, then I guess the only benefit in NEXUS that SENTRI won't have is express entry into Canadian ports.

We have a thread discussing and comparing Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI:
For indexing and future search purposes, please continue this discussion there.

For Nexus, compare Eligibility, and then click Learn More and review the Benefits list. Example: A Mexican national is eligible for Nexus, but is not granted the benefit of TSA Precheck for whatever reason.

Eligibility
U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, Canadian citizens, Canadian permanent residents, and Mexican nationals
...

Benefits
 • Expedited vehicle/pedestrian entrance into U.S. or Canada.
 • Expedited marine entry into U.S. from Canada.
 • Access to TSA Pre✓® expedited security lanes at airports within the U.S. and U.S territories for U.S. Citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents and Canadian citizens.

Keep in mind that if you register your vehicle with NEXUS, you will receive access to SENTRI lanes, so that will give you the most benefits. Applying for SENTRI will not however give you access to Canadian Nexus privileges.

You don't register vehicle to use NEXUS lanes. If you have Nexus and want to enter via SENTRI lanes then you must register your vehicle for SENTRI.

I only have NEXUS, clicked “Add a Vehicle” and registered. Now I can use SENTRI lanes. I know I don’t need to register the vehicle to use NEXUS lanes, however I still scan my NEXUS card when using the SENTRI lanes.

I see. Thanks for the clarification!

This might be the most useful piece of information I've received in 750+ pages of this thread. Thanks for the tip!
